Chapter 8: Berry
Josh walked for less than half an hour before reaching his room. The building is wide, so he had to walk long. He stood in front of his door and noticed that there is something like a dial pad. He thought that this is where he input his password for the room given with the pathing letter. Upon typing the code, a mechanical voice sounded,
"Please scan your fingerprint for double security purposes."
Josh pressed his thumb on the thumb scanner, then
"Thank you. Your fingerprint is now registered. Please choose how you want your security to be: press 1 for either number combination or fingerprint only, or press 2 for both. Upon choosing you will be prompted to enter a new number combination."
Josh pressed the number 1 because he thought that doing the number combination took much time.
"Security method 1 is chosen. Please enter any number combination not exceeding 9 digits."
Josh did as what is told and entered his room. The room was very clean-looking. It has white walls and a white ceiling. There is a bed that can fit two persons if they lie close to each other. A simple table and chair are on the side with a window on its front. The placement of the window is against the sunlight from the east so there will be no discomfort from too much heat, and there is also a curtain to cover it. There is no air conditioner, but the ventilation system is very good. An opaque dark glass door is on the side opposite side of the table leading to the comfort room. A simple toilet bowl, sink, and shower are in it.
Josh smiled excitedly upon seeing all of these – from living in a very raw house to this very beautiful room.
"Whoaa… This is the best! Let me arrange my clothes in the closet first and take a shower. Hehehe~"
After showering, Josh looked at his reflection on the mirror above the sink.
"My hair has really gotten strange after that accident… It keeps on getting dyed dark red at its end strands… Maybe it's a side effect of the berry? Argghh! Never mind, never mind. I still look handsome with it either way."
Josh dressed up and didn't forget to wear his black bonnet and bulgy fake glasses to look smart. He wore other clothes because his 'onii-chan' clothes got drenched in sweat after biking for hours. He wore a blue buttoned-down shirt that's quite large for him and gray pants. When he had the allowance for it, he always buys large clothes because it makes him feel comfortable and he thinks that he will still grow so buying for the larger version of him in the future is good.
"I still have an hour before the classes. I guess I'll just check out the facilities on the way to the plant department…"
*Grrgghhh!~*
"Ahh, right… Maybe I need to eat first."
Josh walked out of his room and got down the stairs to the first floor. There, he noticed other of his batchmates also came to eat before the classes. He got on his way to the counter without thinking much about it and sneakily counted the coins in his pocket. He still needed to save for he got no job yet.
