Chapter 71: An Oasis
Sitting on the edge of our vehicle? Tank car? The more I looked at this thing the more confused it made me. I mean seriously the fire nation built tanks before they built cars. It was nutty.
"Hey is this seriously supposed to be a Oasis?"
I took a sip from my fruity ice beverage, "I don't know does it?"
Ty Lee shrugged, "You know not really. Just a melting pool of ice and a bunch of ruffians."
Yeah I had to agree the sand benders were the worst. I bit into the ice bowl and stared into the sandy desert. When Azula banged on the side of the, you know what. Its a Cank she banged on the side of the Cank.
"What's up you find what you were looking for?"
Azula sighed, "Yeah you were right, that old guy did play Pai Sho just like my Uncle. Though I did not learn what I wanted. Why won't you just tell me?"
I shrugged, gesturing with my beverage. "Want a sip?"
Azula rolled her eyes. "So where's Mai?"
Ty Lee pointed behind us with her thumb. "Still being a vampire, though i don't blame her this time. I feel like bacon cooking on this thing."
"That isn't a bad idea!"
"No! You are not cooking whatever meat we have for more jerky."
"I wasn't thinking Jerky. We have some some eggs I could ma-"
"No! Let's just go freaks around here actually make my skin crawl. I never respected my hygienist until now."
"Logistically they wouldn't have any diseases, just maybe a STD or two and lose of dentals do to the mostly sugar diet."
Azula jumped up the Cank and opened the hatch. "Ew, Don't even start. There is actually a brothel here and I can only imagine how gross it must be."
I raised a finger, "Do to the sand bender population mostly being male, it is most likely the individuals in the brothel are also male or young boys."
Azula looked at me and entered the Cank. I shrugged and leaned back again. "Why would the um..."
"Prostituted be male?"
"Yeah? I mean it just seems a little odd to me."
I looked at Ty Lee then at the people around us. "Is this about the fact everyone is staring at the Cank instead of you?"
Ty Lee was sun bathing while I just wanted the fresh air. I did like the smell of a desert. Reminded me of a vacation I took once. Ty Lee was mad, it was whatever.
"Look usually when a culture is made of mostly males. The Males make do, which usually means they become very gay. Pirates, Islanders, Desert Crawlers." I motioned to the area around us, and continued. "Sometimes a culture will have a leader who gets all the bitches while the labors don't get any. I am bullshitting of course, but you feel better?"
"You are kind of a real jerk."
"Yeah, I get it. Anyway, grab onto something the Cank is gonna move."
"Why? By the what is a Cank? Is tha-"
The Cank jerked and the wheels rolled backwards. Ty Lee then grabbed onto a rail guard and burned her hand. "O fuck that's stings!"
I rolled my eyes and grabbed Ty Lee's shoulder. So she did slip off. "You need lessons, I'm going back in before it picks up speed."
Ty Lee rubbed her hand, "I agree, I need to find some ointment."
Getting back to my seat I finished off my drink and bowl. "So do we just head into the desert and get lost to find this thing?"
I looked over at Mai. Then Azula, I then leaned back. "Nah just head about 73 degrees from the center of the desert."
I wasn't gonna admit that fact I knew exactly where it was in the desert thanks to a bit of help. using the info I knew originally, a slight bit of info from the scrolls I had and finishing it off with the help of Hio. I was hoping I could be a little more exact using the map the uh... That anthropologist who helped the Aang Gang find the library. Though he wasn't at the Oasis.
I jumped up, "Hey, Hey, wait! Those cacti!"
Azula looked out the window, "Is it a clue to-"
"No nothing like that. Its just a really good alcoholic beverage. Like Absinthe on mushrooms."
The three girls stared at me. They all went back to their own versions of waiting. I looked back at the window, my cacti...
I put my hand to the black glass, and stared. I'll get you one day my dear super drugs. So many uses, so so many uses. I mean as fucked up as it was, it was like a roofie. Pour that shit in a bottle present it as a gift. Free cheers to the fire lord and then wham! He is basically into the deep end. The Perfect tool to just scatter someones objectivity. Along with a just being something I really wanted to eat.
Azula sighed, "We can get some of the cacti when we leave the desert. However you won't be anywhere near it."
"What why?"
Mai spoke, "because those are Anjuta Cacti, they are..."
Azula and Mai had strange looks on there faces. "They are what?"
Mai continued, "It is an illegal good. Some people try to sell it, but..."
Oh my plans... I gave a half-hearted sigh. "Fine! I will tell you the possible uses for them later. Its not like I was just gonna drink the stuff."
We better get to the library soon, because now I just felt bad. I blinked, "Hey wait why and how did I not know it was illegal?"
Ty lee smirked, "Because we were friends with Azula longer then you."
Azula gave a death glare and then froze. "My mother, used the Anjuta cactus to poison my grandfather. That is why they know and most other people do not."
"Oh, I get it, casual conspiracy." Well that was a little disappointing. "Technically he didn't die by poisoning, he died by an overdose."
That earned me a slap in the back of the head.
----That's right we back! I have to get into the roll of this so next 5ish chapters might be a little wonky. Should be fine though, if you notice where and when i'll try to fix it, but if not. Then it should be fine.-----
