Chapter 14: From One Problem to Another
I cut down the guy in front of me before moving on to the next person. The fighting has gone on for a few minutes now and most of these people are easy to take care of. I'm just going to keep killing to reduce the competition. After all I have already killed 13 people. The only annoying problem were the people who had weapons like snipers. It wish I had my bow with me so I didn't have to close in on some of these people. As I was thinking about simple things like that another opponent appeared.
"Heh, you've killed a lot of people. However unlike them I will defeat you! Come and get so-" He yelled but I cut him (literally) off by slicing his head off.
"You know I was expecting to be stronger the the average regular but these people are just so unskilled with their weapons." I sighed. I was kinda hoping to find a tough opponent. I've yet to fight someone who can beat me.
'What were you expecting? After all you did take all the life experience of your original. Without that you would be just like them.' Sothis said in my head.
Then a shadow fell on me and I looked up to see a huge guy with a hood. This guy was several times bigger then a human. He carried red spears that hung around his waist like a belt. He wore purplish armor and was walking toward me.
"I assume you're not here to chat?" I asked hopefully.
"You're strong, let's fight." He said and he raised his fist and punched down at me.
I rolled out of the way trying to avoid getting cut by my sword in the process. You wouldn't believe it but apparently trying to dodge roll with a sword in hand is really hard. His fist hit the ground creating a small crater. If I had been hit by that I would most likely be dead.
I dashed for his leg and cut into his shin. I cursed, the cut was too shallow. He raised his leg and stomped down trying to smash me but I backed away before he could. I lunged at him this time trying to stab my sword into his leg as deep. However this time the sword broke upon impact. Well ain't this a predicament.
I was unhappy, I am pretty skilled with my weapons but I lack the strength right now to actually do damage to big things. Except there was a big thing in front of me that needed to be beaten.
Lets see, an opponent I can't defeat huh. It's almost like I raised a flag earlier thinking I wanted a tough opponent. This guy looks a little familiar however I can't remember from where though.
Well you know what they say, if you can't beat them, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! I sprinted away from my opponent into the field. As I ran I looked back to see him not even chasing me.
"Disappointing." He grunted and unhooked a spear from his waist and threw it. My eyes widened and I felt the spear go threw my chest. Then time froze and once again I was face to face with Sothis.
"Here we are again, however this time all you can blame is your own luck. While time is frozen you should think about how to defeat your opponent with that small brain of yours." Sothis said.
"Honestly, without me you can't do anything." She continued.
"Then how about you come up with a way to defeat him." I shot back.
"It's not my fault you got yourself in this situation. Now figure out how to fix it!"
I sat down and thought things threw. Let's see, I have a huge guy with spears I need to defeat. I can't run away because he can throw the spears on his belt. However I can't really damage him either. No matter how you look at it I am screwed no matter what I do.
"What the hell am I supposed to do?! I can't run, I can't fight, and I can't freeze time like this forever. I don't want to live out my life here." I sighed.
"I hate problems that are really tough like this. Then when I figure out the answer I feel like an idiot because it was something simple and I overlooked it." I continued to talk.
"Alright, time to try something. Let's see if I can hurt him with his own spears."
*A few minutes later.*
"…" I stood in silence.
"Back again are we? Did you honesty think that would work?" Sothis chastised.
"How was I supposed to know the spears weighed a ton? I nearly crushed my hands trying to lift it!" I replied.
"Maybe the fact that with his size and strength wielding something too light could prove to be detrimental to him? What were you expecting? Something a little heavier then average?"
"Ugh." I collapsed on the floor. I wanted to lay down for a minute as my thoughts continued to circulate. If only I had the strength to fight him. If only I was fast enough to dodge his spears. If I could only use that damn Shins-. I face palmed and laughed at my own stupidity.
"What idea do you have this time?" Sothis asked with curiosity.
"For some reason I thought that I wasn't able to use shinsu yet due to not having started my climb up the tower. But there are already people even in the outer tower who can use shinsu. So here's my question. Why can't I learn to manipulate shinsu too? There's nothing stopping me." I sat up.
When I finished speaking Realization filled Sothis's face.
"I didn't even think of that. Now that you mention it why haven't we yet?"
"Well it doesn't matter any more because it's time to now." I said with a smile
It's time to form a contract.
