Chapter 10: Celebration

The party confetti showered Kanalaa as she entered the office, followed by the loud "congratulations" of her colleagues. She jumped in surprise, not expecting such thoughtful acts, especially considering how silent the building was when she arrived.

"Oh my god! Thank you all so much!" she exclaimed, her smile beaming brightly. Kayla and other colleagues she hung out with gave her warm hugs.

She noticed balloons and a cake, and on the side table stood a proud-looking man holding a bouquet of flowers—Alistair. None of this she had expected, as they had all gone through the same journey: college, law school, and finally passing the bar exam. She couldn't help but feel elated.

Alistair walked up to her, handing her the bouquet. "Congratulations, I'm so proud of you," he softly uttered before giving her a tight hug, which she returned, knowing full well the support he had given her.

"Thank you," she whispered.

They only parted when Kanalaa noticed the teasing remarks of others. She looked at them shyly but still with a warm smile.

"I'll treat you all to dinner later!" she exclaimed, her laughter ringing through the air as she glanced around at her colleagues.

"There's no need! We've already booked a restaurant. It's on the company!" Kayla chimed in eagerly, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

As much as they wanted to stay a little longer, they understood they should go now. So, everyone left the office after that. Kanalaa looked at Alistair with her brows furrowed and eyes narrowed, doubting and confused why the company shouldered the celebration when she's nothing special.

With that look, Alistair understood what Kanalaa had in mind, so he raised his hands in the air. "It's a company benefit, Kanalaa," he said, erasing the thought from her mind.

"Really?" she said, still in doubt, her brow raised.

"Yeah," he confirmed.

Kanalaa just shrugged because she knew she couldn't get anything more from him.

As she was about to sit on her area, Alistair pulled her to his seat and have her sit on his lap and hugged her from behind just like a lover will do.

Kanalaa knows there's a mutual understanding between them but they haven't made it official nor talked about it yet. She even laughed at herself at some point because after all these years of just flirting she didn't know she'll reach this point, a step away from an official relationship.

"So... I think you can now juggle me and your career instead?" Alistair teased playfully, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he awaited Kanalaa's response.

Kanalaa chuckled warmly, her eyes meeting Alistair's with affection. "I've been doing it for quite some time, don't you think?" she replied, her tone light and teasing.

"Yeah, but, for full time now?" Alistair's tone softened, his playful demeanor giving way to a more serious question, prompting Kanalaa to pause and consider his words carefully.

Kanalaa fell silent, her brow furrowing as she processed Alistair's words. She wasn't prepared for this kind of discussion so soon in their relationship, and her emotions swirled with uncertainty.

"Are you really serious with this relationship?" Kanalaa finally voiced her lingering doubts, her voice tinged with vulnerability as she searched Alistair's eyes for reassurance.

Alistair's expression softened, his eyes filled with sincerity as he reached out to gently cup Kanalaa's cheek. "May I ask if I've ever done something to make you doubt my feelings for you?" he asked softly, his touch warm and comforting.

Kanalaa's heart swelled with a mixture of emotions as she listened to Alistair's heartfelt words. "You've never made me feel that way," she admitted, a hint of sadness in her voice. "But sometimes, past experiences can cloud our judgment, even when we want to trust someone wholeheartedly."

"I want to make sure, Alistair," Kanalaa continued, her voice trembling with sincerity. "I want us to have no doubts in our relationship. To me, being in a relationship is like taking a leap of faith, and I don't want to regret having you in my life."

Alistair squeezed Kanalaa's hand gently, a reassuring smile playing on his lips. "Tell me when you're ready, Kanalaa. I can wait for as long as it takes. I understand you. I feel you. I'll follow your pace, whether it's as slow as a turtle or as fast as a hare, as long as it's with you."

"I will always strive to prove to you that you made the right choice," Alistair vowed earnestly. "I can't promise I won't make mistakes, but I'll do my best to avoid them. Your happiness will always be my priority. We're in this together, Kanalaa, taking chances on each other and our future."

"Alright, let's do it. Honor your words, Alistair," Kanalaa said, her voice tinged with determination as she looked into Alistair's eyes.

Alistair nodded solemnly, a sense of purpose etched on his features.

"Be the man of your words," she added with her tone firm and resolute.

"Of course, that's what I ought to be," Alistair affirmed, his gaze unwavering as made the promise.

"Thank you for giving me a chance, Kanalaa. I will cherish this relationship, you," Alistair said, his voice filled with sincerity as he reached out to gently squeeze Kanalaa's hand.

Kanalaa's heart swelled with emotion, her eyes shimmering with gratitude. She freed her hands from his touch and enveloped him in her embrace. Without hesitation, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her gently into a tight and warm embrace.

"Thank you also for making me want a relationship, for opening up to you, and for changing my closed mind over the years," she confessed softly like a lullaby.

A warm smile spread across Alistair's face as he listened to Kanalaa's words.

"You have no idea how much you've been changing me into a better person," she admitted, her eyes reflecting genuine appreciation.

"Stop making me feel so lucky when I know I am the lucky one, Kanalaa. You're heaven sent," Alistair said, his voice filled with awe and admiration. "I'm looking forward to all the wonderful things we will experience together," he added, his gaze filled with anticipation for the future they would share.

...

At the celebratory dinner for Kanalaa's remarkable achievement of passing the bar exam as the number one candidate, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and pride. Alistair, stood up with a glass of champagne in hand, ready to make a toast.

"Everyone, let's raise our glasses to Kanalaa," Kayla announced, her voice filled with pride and admiration towards her colleague who became her friend also. "Not only has she passed the bar exam with flying colors, but she's also topped it! Here's to her hard work, dedication, and incredible achievement."

The room erupted into applause as everyone raised their glasses in agreement. Kanalaa blushed, her eyes sparkling with gratitude and joy.

Cassidy, one of the employees who got closed to Kanalaa, stood up and approached Kanalaa with a bright smile. "Congratulations, Kanalaa!" she exclaimed, giving her a warm hug. "You truly deserve this success. We're all so proud of you."

"Thank you so much, Cassidy," Kanalaa replied, returning the hug with equal enthusiasm. "Your support means the world to me."

Meanwhile, Alistair leaned in to whisper sweet words of encouragement in Kanalaa's ear, his hand gently resting on her shoulder. "I knew you could do it," he murmured, his eyes filled with love and admiration. "I'm so proud of you, my love."

Kanalaa beamed up at Alistair, feeling a surge of affection wash over her. She reached out to hold his hand, squeezing it tightly in gratitude.

On the sideline, their colleagues have been silently watching them, stealing glances. Although they noticed the subtles gestures they portray from time to time to the public, they did not dare to assume that they are in a relationship. Nothing have been confirmed to them and it's nothing like the two involved parties have to do so. Yet, tonight, in this dinner they just witness the boldness of the two leading them to assume that their relationship have leveled up .

As the evening continued, laughter filled the air as colleagues shared stories and toasted to Kanalaa's bright future.

After the celebratory dinner, the group decided to continue the festivities at a nearby karaoke bar. Kanalaa, still glowing with happiness from her achievement, eagerly led the way with Alistair by her side.

As they entered the lively karaoke bar, the sound of music and laughter enveloped them. Kanalaa's colleagues cheered and clapped, excited for a night of fun and celebration.

Alistair took Kanalaa's hand, his eyes sparkling with anticipation. "Shall we start the karaoke session with a song?" he asked, a playful grin tugging at his lips.

Kanalaa laughed, feeling a surge of excitement coursing through her veins. "Absolutely!" she replied, her voice filled with enthusiasm.

Together, they made their way to the karaoke stage amidst cheers and applause from their friends and colleagues. Alistair handed the microphone to Kanalaa with a flourish, his eyes never leaving hers.

Despite for being known cool and getting along with everyone, Alistair is still reserved and haven't done this the entire time they were working in the company. The tenured employees who have been with him witnessed his free-spirited personality but not up to this point. Only then they've confirmed to themselves that something is definitely going on between the two.

Kanalaa took a deep breath, feeling the thrill of the moment wash over her. She glanced at Alistair, a smile playing on her lips, before launching into a spirited rendition of her favorite song.

As Kanalaa sang her heart out, Alistair watched her with adoration, his heart swelling with pride. He couldn't help but join in, his voice blending harmoniously with hers as they duetted together.

The crowd erupted into cheers and applause as Kanalaa and Alistair finished their performance, their faces flushed with exhilaration. They shared a triumphant smile, knowing that this night would be remembered as a celebration of love, success, and friendship.
