Chapter 5: Akaza Part 2

(A/N: This chapter is both late, and a little shorter than normal. Sorry. I wrote this and the next scene on Sunday and was going to release it, but my computer ran out of battery and shut down while I was finishing it. I had forgotten to save my work (I know, rookie mistake), so it ended up being deleted. I was pretty demoralized, so I just rewrote it today, but I only rewrote the first scene, that's why it will be a little shorter. Again, I'm sorry.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Akaza had never seen anything like it! Fighting spirit had always looked like an intangible energy that flows around a person like water. Yet this, this wasn't even close to that.

When he looked at him, what he saw was a man, towering over him. He was practically made of muscle, which was covered in thin, spiked purple vines. These vines covered most of the giants body, mainly concentrated around his hands. This all culminated into an aura that felt both menacing and non-threatening at the same time.

Although Akaza had never seen any fighting spirit like it, he somehow knew that these vines were dangerous.

"Vines, I cant believe it! Incredible! How did you do it?" Akaza asked the giant as he tried to jump back to gain some distance, but he couldn't.

"Ah!" He involuntarily yelped in pain as he felt wrist start to tear off from the force of him jumping back. Jonathan was currently holding Akaza's fist, so when he tried to jump back right now he had almost ripped off his own hand. He had put a lot of force into his jump, expecting that he would be able to easily free himself from the giants grip, but he was wrong!

'How the hell is this human so strong? I almost ripped off my own hand just from jumping back, and this human didn't even flinch!' As he thought that he looked at Jonathan again, and this time he took notice of a feeling within his body.

he noticed that his body started giving off danger signals, similar to what it did when the sun was rising. Was the sun about to rise? No, he should still have a few more minutes, so what was this feeling. His eyes met Jonathan's, and then he realized where it was coming from.

'Is this human doing this? Why is my body acting like he is the sun? Shit, maybe its from my fight with Kyojuro, he must have hit my head at some point and its taking longer to recover for some reason. Now my instincts are all out of wack.'

"Human, I admit that your strength is impressive, however I am more interested in your fighting spirit. Why does it look like that? Like vines?" Akaza asked, hoping to get the human to lower his guard and weaken his grip by distracting him, but the human said nothing, and just stared at him.

Jonathan had no idea what the vampire was saying, but he could tell from its eyes that it wanted to leave.

"You haven't killed anyone here by the looks of it, so I can let you go, but you have to leave now without harming anyone else, is that understood?" Jonathan said. He knew the vampire couldn't understand him, but he hoped that his point would still get across.

Truth is, he didn't want to fight right now. Or, more specifically, he couldn't. He had been using Hamon non stop for the past few hours now, and before that he was fighting Dio on the boat. He would have passed out from exhaustion the second they beat that other vampire, however he knew that he had to heal the injured passengers first, so he forced himself to stay awake.

Hamon is a persons life force, so its not like its bad for the body, but using it for longer periods of time at such a high intensity will still exhaust him. You cant really run out of Hamon since it is generated with your breathing, if you did, you would be dead, but its vassal can run out of energy. Jonathans body was strained and exhausted right now, so while he could still use his full strength, he couldn't do it for long, and he certainly couldn't do it efficiently.

If he fought in a state like this, he would need to play defensively.

He needed to think of a plan in case the vampire didn't want to leave. Its strength wasn't far off from his own, so he knew the option of brute forcing it wasn't on the table.

'Wait, that's it! The sun should be rising in at most a couple of minutes, if I can keep it away from the others for that long it should burn up! Now, how do I do that.' Jonathan began to think up a plan.

Meanwhile, Akaza was starting to get frustrated as a foreboding feeling continued to plague his instincts. He had been trying to ignore it, thinking that it was just his instincts being messed up after a brain injury, but they kept getting stronger.

He knew he only had a few minutes tops until the sun started to rise, so he needed to hide, but this humans grip was to strong. Akaza then heard Jonathan say something, and that's when he realized that Jonathan was a foreigner.

'Shit, so he cant even understand me! What is he saying though?' He thought and looked into Jonathans eyes, and immediately understood what he was saying...

Leave.

That instinct within him once again got stronger, and Akaza finally stopped hesitating and immediately pulled on his hand, ripping it off before turning and running away.

Akaza had trained almost his entire life now, so he was able to easily ignore his instincts if he wanted to, however at this moment he decided to obey them. Of course, he still wanted to fight the giant, even if his body really didn't want to, however he knew the fight wouldn't be worth it since it would at most last a few seconds before the suns rays killed him.

Jonathan was absolutely baffled by the turn of events. He was going to let go of the demons hand so that it could leave, he didn't even mean to hold onto it for as long as he did, but before he loosened his grip the Vampire had ripped off its own hand!

He knew that the vampires probably didn't feel pain, showcased by when he cut Dio in half and then he just casually walked it off like nothing happened, or when he was flying around as a head. But to rip off your own hand with no hesitation, it still caught Jonathan off guard.

Overlooking that, Jonathan was grateful that the vampire just ran away rather than trying to fight. He was not confident in his ability to protect everyone here in his current state.

"*Sigh* At least I didn't have to fight anymore. That vampires punch hurt my arm, even now its still shaking. Acting like it did nothing was also a lot harder than I thought it would be, but I guess I can work on that some other time." Jonathan said to the swordsmen behind him, despite knowing they had no idea what he was saying.

He then fell face first into the ground as the sun rose. He had reached his limit of exhaustion long ago, and now that all of the people with heavy injuries were relatively healed, and the last enemy was gone, Jonathan decided to take a nap.
