Chapter 13: Harnessing Vis and Accidents

Now that I had a way to see vis and essentia and the aspects, I decided to work on getting some way to manipulate it. I could use vis normally but as soon as it got any more than a few centimeters away from my body I couldn't control it anymore.

I could use vis through the hammer with ease so I decided to test the flow of vis through other materials. The shards when vis passed through them exploded in various ways: fire shards exploded into flames, water shards exploded into water, air shards exploded into a burst of wind, earth shards, exploded into tiny shards of rock, entropy shards made the skin on my fingers start to die, order shards seemed to help reverse the process.

Wood materials could contain a decent amount of vis but couldn't manipulate it finely, while metal couldn't store much vis but it flowed through it and manipulated it with ease. Other materials didn't seem to work as efficiently as the wood or iron I tested it on but maybe I was missing something.

With those new discoveries I began making my first wand, it was a simple wand consisting of a simple wooden core that I had whittled down into shape, while the caps of the wand were some simple iron plates that I had crudely bent into place, I used some mundus to get the iron caps to stay in place, but with that my first wand was complete!

Now that I could use vis I had a new issue, getting vis, my body had its own that slowly accumulated over time that I could store in the wand but it took ages and made me really tired.

Moving on from that, I made my way to get some food but when I saw the cauldron the familia used to make soups and stews I had an idea, I put the thaum-o-meter as I had dubbed it over my node eye and looked at it.

When I saw that the essentia and vis flowed through it with relative ease, I got up and stole it right in front of the cooks and quickly took it to my room. I said that I would pay for it later but the cook did not look satisfied.

Once I was in my room I took it out before realizing that I had no stand to put it on. So I went back down to the kitchen and took the stand it was on and the burner under it. Riviera and Lefiya were giving me weird looks but went on my way.

Now that I had a way to use it I set it up, started to experiment by flowing vis through it, and watched as there was a qualitative change in the way it flowed. I quickly filled up the cauldron turned crucible and tried to make a balance shard again.

Much like I expected there was no flux this time and the shard was much bigger and could make an entire pouch of mundus, unlike my last attempt. As I was admiring the shard Riviera had walked in without me noticing.

"Stella, why did you steal from the kitchen?"Riviera was curious about why she had stolen it in front of him.

"To make this!"Stella said while she held up the balance shard.

"What is that? Also couldn't you have used the glassware on your desk?"Riviera didn't know that Stella knew alchemy but she couldn't feel any mana from the object.

"This is a balance shard, or that's what I'm calling it at least, and it is a conglomeration of the primal elements and it resonates perfectly with that primal energy!"Stella explained "And I cant use glassware because it does not utilize essentia properly."

Stella had accidentally knocked 2 chunks of coal into the crucible unknowingly during her explanation.

"Uh, Stella you knocked something into the pot."Riviera hoped that that wouldn't mess anything up.

"Oh, I did?"Stella turned around and carefully removed a small grayish black sphere from the mix."I, don't remember buying this?"

Stella quickly put the lens up to her eye to inspect it and noticed a rather unsettling amount of potentia essentia for its size in the object. This realization led to her fumbling and dropping the orb.

Stella's senses were going haywire and she could see the essentia in the sphere shaking at crazy speeds. Stella turned and ran at Riviera who was unaware and dived into her pushing them both onto the stairs but not before there was a loud explosion.

Stella felt the blast's heat as it threw her and Riviera down the stairs. Stella turned their bodies so that only she would get hit when they landed on the ground.

The air was knocked out of her as she hit the ground, with a small amount of blood following.

*cough*"You ok Riviera?"Stella shakily managed to get out.

"Yes, but are you ok?"Riviera was extremely worried about Stella, and that explosion that happened, she couldn't feel any mana come from the object.

"Maybe? Everything hurts currently, and I don't want to move."Stella admitted

Finn and Loki had come rushing in with other familia members following shortly after. Stella and Riviera were checked for injuries and healed shortly after.

Stella was sitting in Loki's office with Finn, Loki, and Riviera giving her a rather mean stare.

"Now do you want to explain what happened?"Loki said

Stella went on to explain what had happened with Riviera confirming it.

"Ok, I am going to ignore the stealing right now, what caused the explosion?"Loki almost didn't believe that Stella had stolen the cooking pot in front of everyone.

"It was a small grayish black orb."Stella was more worried about her research notes than her own body at the moment.

"Where did it come from?"Finn was worried about her, she joined only a few days ago and she almost already died, and she hadn't even gone in the dungeon.

"I don't know, something fell into the crucible, and out that came."Stella was quite curious about the object she had accidentally made and was currently thinking of a name.

"You knocked 2 chunks of coal into the crucible."Riviera stated,"There was no mana in the object, why did it explode like that?"

"Oh, yea you guys cant see the essentia and vis in the air."Stella retorted

"The what? That doesn't explain anything."Riviera responded

"For the past few days, I have been learning about the stuff that I had in my bag, during that I came up with a method to view vis and essentia without gaining a huge headache. You can think of vis as a form of mana that floats in the air, while essentia is a more complex form of mana that exists in all things."Stella explained

"So this lens lets you see this stuff?"Riviera was interested in something different but similar to magic.

"Yea you just look through it and you should see some swirling colors."Stella handed the lens to Riviera.

As Riviera looked through the lens she could indeed see the colors, although it did give her a huge headache while doing so.

"I can see this essentia and vis you are talking about, but it hurts my head while doing so."Riviera handed the lens to Loki so that she could try.

"What's with the golden aura when I look at myself?"Loki asked

"I assume it's your divinity clashing with the vis in the air."Stella replied

"But her divinity is sealed?"Finn asked while the lens was handed to him.

"Just because she can't use her power doesn't mean it stopped existing."Stella responded,"Am I good here, I just remembered that I had more things left to look at."

"Yes but you are going to be billed for stealing from the kitchen, next time don't do it in the open."Loki dismissed her

I got back to my room to find it quite a mess. My bed and dresser were destroyed but the stuff from Vish held up great. After I picked up all the broken stuff and made my way to the desk I thanked myself for putting stuff in the drawers and boxes on the desk.

Luckily nothing had been lost, although I noticed that the cinderpearls had bloomed, there must have been a connection between the Alumentum as I am calling it, and the growth of the cinderpearls.

The last things on my list for research were the last 2 items in my bag, I had almost forgotten them after making the thaum-o-meter and the wand.

First was the bolt of cloth, the cloth itself was extremely soft and seemed to gather vis in the atmosphere faster than I did, it also could channel it surprisingly well. Its durability was also ridiculous, Everything I threw at it did nothing, making clothes out of this could prove to increase my abilities quite a lot.

The last thing was a small gold ring with a yellow-colored gem fit into it, at first glance it seemed like nothing more than a ring but after I looked closely I noticed the thousands of engraved runes all along the ring. How someone got engravings that detailed and in that number is beyond me, the gem that I could identify as amber also had channels etched into it leading to different runes.

I tried to put some vis into it only to realize that aer and terra vis were the only accepted types, it could also automatically pull from my wand, after deciphering some of the runes I figured out that this ring provides a shield blocking any one attack, it worked on anything I deemed an attack, the shattered knife could attest to that.

You know I didn't know that Alumentum exploded when thrown, I would have loved to go into more alchemy but Stella currently lacks the materials! Maybe your power stones could fix that?? JK JK Unless?
