Chapter 280: 280. Getting Married
Fairy Tail guild building is empty today, the door is even closed. No one takes any job today and they all are gathering in the cathedral. They are wearing nice suits & dresses because today is the wedding day of Ben & Mira. It's been 2 months since Ben proposed Mira.
Ben is sitting in the front with the boys from the guild, wearing a black suit. He has a new haircut too, a rather short undercut style. He hasn't cut his hair for a few months so he looks very fresh now.
When Al & Bisca get married, he told Al to not be nervous, but he is quite nervous now. The pressure is stronger than he thought. He was never this nervous even when he fought life & death battles.
Sometime later, the ceremony starts, and the priest calls him to stand on the altar. The priest gives a short speech before calling the bride to enter. Mira enters the room while holding Elfman's hand with Lisanna and his sisters behind them as bridesmaids along with some girls.
Ben always thought that grooms are exaggerating their reactions when they see their brides. But now he understands why they react like that because now he becomes like them. Mira wears a veil, but he can see that she is just too beautiful today.
His eyes are glued on Mira as she walks down the aisle. Everything other than Mira has disappeared from his sight. She wears a simple & normal wedding dress, but it is enough to take Ben's breath. The priest even needs to wake him up to his sense when Mira arrives at the altar.
"I know what you feel, but don't be overwhelmed. This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment, so you can't mess it up," says the priest.
"Alright, I was just too stunned. The beautiful girl has become a stunning woman," says Ben while smiling.
Mira blushes and pinches Ben's waist because it is too embarrassing. He flinches in pain and everyone there laughs at the scene. But it removes Ben's nervousness and so is Mira who nervous too.
The ceremony resumes and it proceeds without any problem. Both groom & bride accept each other as husband & wife obviously. Everyone claps their hands and congratulates both of them as they kiss.
After finishing the ceremony in the cathedral, they go outside. There are so many people outside, mostly the townfolks. Some of Ben's & Mira's acquaintances from other guilds, organizations, etc also come.
Ben & Mira waves their hands and everybody cheers happily. Though many men & women are crying seeing both of them. Ben is famous and many women like him. Mira is also the same because she is a popular model, so many men have a crush on her.
They are jealous but they are also happy that their idols have found happiness. Well, they have just realized that what they feel wasn't love, but admiration, and purely idolizing the 2. That's why they feel jealous but also happy for Ben & Mira.
Suddenly, some booming sound can be heard, and people are panicking. But they all calm down immediately and even smile when they see colorful flower petals fall from the sky. Mira looks at Ben who is smiling and winks his left eye.
"Why didn't you tell me?" asks Mira.
"It's not a surprise if I told you, isn't it?" asks Ben back.
"But those explosions might gave me a heart attack. I thought we were getting attacked for real," says Mira.
"As if the S-Class Mage, Mirajane will get a heart attack by those kinds of explosions. Also, only idiots will attack us right now," says Ben.
"Well, some old people might actually get heart attacks, you know," says Mira.
"..... Sigh, just tell me if you like this surprise or not," says Ben tiredly.
"I love it," says Mira while smiling.
The flower petals rain ends after some minutes and then she wants to throw a flower bouquet. Many girls run forward to compete for the bouquet while their boyfriends try to stop them but to no avail.
Mira turns around before she throws the bouquet behind. The girls are rampaging as they try to catch the bouquet. They transform from pretty girls into hideous-looking creatures who trample over their competitors.
Ben even needs to teleport and covers his sisters' eyes. This is not an appropriate sight for these little girls. He doesn't want his sisters to be like that in the future. Ladies need to act and appear like ladies.
In the end, Cana is the one who gets that bouquet, trampling over even Titania, and she is very happy about it even though she is single. Gildarts who sees it doesn't seem happy though. He stands behind his daughter while looking at every guy on there with menacing eyes.
Anyway, after that, they start a parade with the newlywed couple touring around the town. It's not Ben's idea, but the request of the townfolks. Not everyone can come to the cathedral, there's not enough space.
So the townfolks and even the Mayor asked Ben & Mira to go around the town with a decorated vehicle. But they can't just go alone using one car. That's why they go with the other Mages of Fairy Tail using a lot of decorated cars, making this into a parade.
Words of congratulation can be heard or read along the way. Almost everyone in the town knows Ben & Mira, after all. Well, who won't know the previous Guild Master who has improved this town and the most famous model in their town?
They go around for a few hours because they move slowly. If Ben, Mira, and the others aren't Mages, then they would have collapsed from exhaustion. But they are fine and they will start another event after resting for a bit.
In the town plaza, there is a big stage being set there. It's a round stage without any roof so it can be seen from every angle. It's quite high but not too high so people can see the ones on stage clearly.
This stage is used for entertainment, just like what a stage should be used for. Ben has poured a lot of money into this, but he thinks it is necessary because there are so many people who come to bless him & Mira, so he needs to give them some entertainment.
Ben & Mira sits on a seat positioned rather high in the middle of the stage. Then some sort of performances are being presented on stage. Musicians, dancers, comedians, theater, and even random performances from Fairy Tail Mages & random people who are allowed to perform on the stage.
The people are enjoying it while eating the food prepared by food stalls & restaurants. All the food and drinks are free today because they're gifts from the townfolks for Ben & Mira. They didn't let the 2 pay them but both of them provide all the meat & some ingredients.
Everyone is happy at the wedding party that becomes like a festival. It is just like a Royal Wedding of a prince & a princess. Ben is happy seeing his friends & acquaintances happy. But he is crying inside because his pocket has become thinner.
'Sigh, let's not be stingy. I was a Guild Master, am a Wizard Saint, an S-Class Mage, a rising company owner, and one of the most wealthy Mages on Ishgar. My current wealth is on par with high-ranking nobles so this level of wedding party is appropriate,' thinks Ben to calm himself.
When the party almost ends at night, Ben & Mira give a speech to show their gratitude. People claps and they're just about to return to their seat. But Ben suddenly stops Mira while smiling and he suddenly sings.

Mira gets surprised but then she smiles and holds Ben's hand as he sings. The audience also smiles and waves their hands.

Everyone claps as Ben finish the song and then he tells them he has another song for Mira. He flicks his fingers and the band starts to play the music.

He finishes the song and people are clapping again. Mira also praises him for his performance and he just smiles while thanking Elvis & Shane in his heart. After that, they end the wedding party with a dancing session for the newlywed couple & other couples there. Then the tiring but fun day on Magnolia finally ends.
