Chapter 17: Alert: Rhy has awoken the gate boss - “The living blade”

I awoke from my nap. My back was soaking but I felt a lot better.

"You're awake finally!"

"You know you guys could have slept too." I said stretching my arms above my head and getting into my armour.

"But we're in a gate, that's crazy! What kind of moron sleeps in the middle of clearing a gate! This place is crawling with assassins!"

"No it's not. I already told you I killed them, now we need to find the boss room."

"How can you switch the conversation?"

"Oh I'm sorry did you want to call me a moron again, human. Or do you want to clear this gate so I can eat?"

"Hmmf fine let's go."

'Alert: Rhy has awoken the gate boss - "The living blade" '

We walked into a small room. The ground was still damp but the walls had become brown plates. I walked into the room. Where the hell is the boss? Is it like the spider? No it isn't on the ceiling, where is it? What's going on?

I searched around looking for any trace of a boss. Until the walls moved, they shifted ever so slightly, then I realised where I had seen them before, it was like the exoskeleton of a bug. I walked over to the wall and placed my hand on the plate.

Two red eyes opened, I jumped back, drawing my sword and I charged forward. Stabbing into the giant face. But my sword didn't pierce the exoskeleton, only bouncing off the brown surface. Suddenly the room started to spin, no it was the walls crawling around as a large form crawled across the floor rising up towering over us. A giant centipede was standing above us, giant pincers snipped in front of them gleaming like swords. There were hundreds of giant legs wriggling in the air. The monster let out a cry and slammed into the air its pincers opened as it charged towards me its many legs carrying it over the ground with a stampede of footsteps. The small mouth was aimed right for me.

'Alert: Skill activated - "Conjure" '

My black broadsword was in my left hand, I strengthened my stance, widening my feet and held my swords up on both sides of my body. As the centipede slammed into me my feet were dragged back the pincers pushing my swords inward like I was being hit by a truck and crushed by a car compactor simultaneously. The ground wasn't sturdy enough. I was being pushed back, the mud squishing behind me. The wall was closing behind me a giant stone door. I now understand the phrase between a rock and a hard place. My back slammed into the wall being pressed against the cold stone. My back was still painful from the arrow wounds. I was being pushed to the limits of my endurance. As I was on my last legs the centipede squealed, shrieks echoing throughout the room.

Avon was stabbing at the plates with his spear jamming the thin head into the cracks.his spear was flaming burning the soft insides. The centipede howled, It's legs wriggled and stretched. The centipede recalled diving down into the soft earth, the mud pilling up behind him. The ground began to rumple. I rushed over to my party dropping one of the swords. The centipede rose up out of the dirt mud raining down on us. Its huge body half submerged, it opened its mouth and a black liquid shot out. Washing over me.

'Alert' passive skill activated - "antitoxin" cool down 10 mins'

My health was not impacted at all. I rushed forward stabbing the centipede in the chest. The soft insides squelching under my blade. The centipede reared up standing on its back legs and rushed forward stabbing at me with every one of it's legs. Small scratches covered my arms as I tried to defend the others from it's attack.

"Avon, when I give the signal, use your light attack!"

"Human, boost my speed! And heal me if possible but again prioritise speed."

The centipede crashed through the wall rushing for me.

'Alert: Master Chaaya used skill - "Boost" '

The legs rushing at me seemed so slow I deflected the first few and then reached out my hand grasping one of the legs.

"Avon NOW!"

"ONE BILLION ARROWS RISE FROM THE GROUND AND PIERCE MY ENEMIES! HOLY BATTLEGROUND!"

I planted my legs and summoned all of my strength swinging the legs up and across to Avon head first. The immense weight pulling at my arms.

'Alert: Master Chaaya used skill - "Bulk"'

'Alert: Adventurer Avon used skill - "Holy battle ground" '

My arms swelled up and I pulled the centipede out of the earth, launching it at Avon, the cylinder of light building up. The centipede slammed into the floor biting Avon and cracking his armour. But the centipede was berated with millions of arrows, its flesh being pulverised from the attack.

'Alert: "Unknown party" has defeated B-rank boss - "The living blade" - and gained exp and rewards'

'Alert: please input party name'

Party name? I'll leave that for later. I should ask the others later in the tavern.

'Alert: Rhy gained a legendary recipe - "Exo-armour".'

'Alert: Rhy has reached level 65'

Wow I gained a lot of levels. I turned my head to Avon.

"Hey are you ok? I think you got bitten."

"Yeah thanks my armour took most of the damage, and I'm sorry that I got mad at you for napping. It's just I'm pretty new to this so I'm really nervous."

"Don't worry I will try to not nap in the future. It's just that this is tiring and I knew I had killed them all."

I heard a distant thud. Chaaya was on her back.

"Human! Damn it!"

I rushed to her side, blood was dripping from her mouth.

"I'm fine, don't worry I just over exerted myself with that last spell."

"Damn It why would you act so recklessly?"

"This is coming from you? I just want to be useful, I want to fight."

"You are useful. Now drink this and we'll carry you out."

"Heh heh looks like you will be carrying me and my stuff after all"

I handed her a mana potion forcing the liquid down her throat. Then picking her up we walked out of the dungeon. The door shut behind us.

"Hey Avon, thank you for coming with us. We couldn't have done it without you."

"Hey no need I'm happy to and you can always repay me with a fight."

"Sure another time though, and give me your armour, I'll fix it for you."

The sun rose on a new day as we returned to the inn. So that was a B-rank gate, huh? That wasn't as bad as I expected and I got some good drops. Maybe being here isn't so bad.
