Chapter 10: Combat

Today was the last day of recruiting youths for the martial festival the next day. The boulevards and houses were filled with beautiful decorations for the festival tomorrow.

Elsie strolled out of the inn with Zarin, they were heading to the enrollment office to enroll for the martial competition during the martial festival the next day.

Currently, they were standing in a long queue, waiting for their turn.

"Haiz... This queue is too long, I will have a numb leg before we leave here today." Zarin grumbled with a deep frown on his face.

"Then cut through the line." Elsie chuckled with an indifferent face.

Time went by slowly and it was eventually their turn, they walked up to the middle-aged man who was in charge of recruiting youths for the martial competition.

He raised his head to gaze at the two young people standing in front of his table. "Are you both here to register?"

"Yes," Elsie and Zarin nodded in unison.

"Am sorry but it's a three-person team, not a two-person team," The middle-aged man smiled and shooked his head. "You can find one more person to join your team and come back to register."

"Is that so....," Disappointment flashed across Elsie's beautiful eyes as she sighed. Where was she to find one more person?

"I can join y'all, I ain't gat two people to join me, so it's a win-win."

Just when Elsie was pondering how she should get one more person to join their team, she heard a girl's voice and turned around instantly to see the girl who fought at the restaurant yesterday.

Elsie never expected that someone would ask to be in their team at a moment like this. Upon hearing the other party's word, excitement surged within her.

"Really... You want to join our team?"

To be sure, She decided to ask again. She just felt it's good to be true. If this girl joins their team, their likelihood of winning will be higher.

"You heard me right." The young girl chuckled with crossed arms.

"Alright." Elsie turned towards the middle-aged man with a smile plastered on her face, "Sir we are three, can we register now?"

The middle-aged man nodded with a half-smile on his lips. He took out three tokens and gave them to each of them. It was an identity token that will make them eligible to participate in the competition.

"Thank you, sir."

The middle-aged man nodded and waved his hand at them.

Elsie walked away with Zarin and the young girl. They were currently walking back to the inn, to get ready for the martial competition tomorrow.

"Am Elsie... What is your name?" Elsie revealed a friendly smile as she glanced at the young girl strolling beside her.

"Ma name's Olive, nice to meet you." The young girl returned the friendly smile and glanced at Zarin with a raised brow.

"Oh... Am Zarin, ni-nice to meet you," Zarin smiled awkwardly. He was losing his cool around this girl.

"Nice to meet ya." Olive patted his shoulder and strolled alongside Elsie.

They returned to the inn and introduced themselves more, getting to know each other more.

At the end of the day, the three of them agreed to practice with each other and learn to communicate more before the martial festival tomorrow.

"Three of us together or one on one?" Olive smiled with a raised brow.

"Three of us together. It will be beneficial to us tomorrow," Elsie nodded her head. "No cultivation, just combat!" She would never agree for the three of them to fight with each other using their cultivation. She will be beaten to a pulp of meat, so it's only fair if they battle in combat.

"Alright, let's get started then, people!" Olive drew the long big sword from her back and banged it on the ground.

Elsie drew her two swords from its shield with a smirk on her face and Zarin, drew his saber which he bought today at the market. He was finally gonna taste this baby up!

Three of them took a battling stance and proceeded to walk in a circle, watching each other in vigilance. Olive still had a smirk on her face whilst Zarin and Elsie held a serious expressions.

"One... two... three. Now!!!"

Three of them rushed towards each other and their weapons clashed together.

Olive drew back and swung her sword a few times and threw it towards Elsie which sent her flying.

Zarin on the other hand flipped himself and sent a kick towards Olive which also sent Thea flying but she managed to hold her step just like Elsie

Elsie narrowed her eyes, and with a roar, she rushed towards Olive and furiously sent a kick to her stomach which had her take 12 steps back and clutch her stomach.

"Payback!" Elsie smirked and threw a punch at Zarin who was coming behind her.

"Ouch! my nose!!" Zarin clutched his nose which had a little blood in it and raised his head to gaze at Elsie with a questioning expression.

"Sorry! You were sneaking!" Elsie smiled awkwardly and turned to face Thea.

Olive who held a grim face, narrowed her eyes and a smirk crept up her lips.

She dragged her big sword along with her as she rushed towards Elsie and with a frantic roar, she stomped her sword on the ground and used the opportunity to flip up in mid-air sending a violent kick towards Elsie.

Elsie who saw the incoming kick faced it head-on and both crashed with each other and took three steps back and eventually fell on their bum.

"Ouch! My butt!" Olive clutched her butt and stood up on her feet. "You're good in combat." She smiled towards Elsie and nodded at her.

"Thanks, you too," Elsie revealed a friendly smile.

The three went back inside the inn and Elsie helped Zarin to mend his bloody nose.

"I don't understand why you had to hit my nose!" Zarin could not help but grumble bitterly.

"I already said am sorry!" Elsie rolled her eyes at Zarin's childish behavior. This was combat! Somebody was going to get hurt!

Olive who was watching the both of them, could not help but chuckle as she shook her head.
