Chapter 12: Crafting, The Modelling Couple

When they were having breakfast, Jennet, the morning shift manager noticed that the husband-wife pair seems closer than they were yesterday. You could see the subtle difference in their actions, Kenneth was more natural when he passed the food to Nagini, even the way he talked to her was as though there was no barrier between them.
"We have to be at Madam Malkin's at 12pm, what are you going to do till then?" asked Kenneth.
"I wanted to create a few more items, the rings are the most popular of them, and they keep running out, what about you?" said Nagini.
"I want to watch you make them, maybe I'll be able to pick up a thing or two about crafting," said Kenneth.
After cleaning up, the two went into Nagini's workshop. In the middle of the workshop was a table, other than that, the room was empty of furniture. There were heaps of items scattered and piled across the room, trunk, briefcases, few boxes of rings, folded tent and pouches.
"You don't craft your own items?" asked Kenneth.
"That would take too much time, I just buy them and only do the inscribing," she replied then said, "I'll start with a few rings."
She took one of the rings that was inside the box. The ring was hollowed out, Kenneth understood instantly that she probably inscribes the runes inside the ring to expand the space inside. He did not say anything, he just quietly observed Nagini working with his soul eye, she had purple coloured core and magic flowing through her. Just as he predicted, she drew her wand from her own spatial ring, pointed it at the ring and channelled magic into it and started drawing the spatial rune of the serpent inside the hollowed inside of the ring. The more runes she drew and more magic she used while drawing them indicated the amount of space available in the end product.
"There done," she said.
"Nice, but can anyone use the ring? I mean what if it was lost? Will the person who picks it up be able to access the content inside?" asked Kenneth.
"I did not think of that before, but yes, anyone who is able to channel magic into it would be able to summon anything inside it," Nagini answered.
"Hmm, I have few ideas, care to hear them?" asked Kenneth, to which she nodded. Then he said, "Give me the spatial ring you are using."
Nagini took off her ring without hesitation and handed it to Kenneth.
Kenneth looked at the ring with his soul eye, he could see that the interior was nearly one square meter, the space was not big, but big enough to carry around few essential items like the wand, extra cloths and food. He did not change anything in the interior, but he activated his innate dwarven power and started to bend the outer layers of the ring. When Kenneth finished the plain silver ring had a delicate silver rose on the top with tiny, delicate vines and leaves running on its body. The inside surface of the ring had "Nagini Webb" carve into it, the engraved name was special, when they were at breakfast, Kenneth had noticed that every wizard and witch had an engraved magical signature on their cores, however, every signature was unique to them. Kenneth had carved the whole name with tiny signatures that resembled Nagini's magical fingerprint, there was a unique frequency that they both emitted that the magic in the atmosphere did not have. Kenneth tried to channel his magic into the ring and as he suspected, the ring rejected his magic, if he wanted to access the items he would have to forcefully break through the engraved pattern.
"Here you do," he said, "Not only did I change the exterior, but the name I engrave was special, it will only allow you to access the ring."
"It's really beautiful," she took the ring and admired it, she noticed while Kenneth was making the ring that he did not use a wand, so she asked, "You can do wandless magic?
"My body is different remember? Part of the benefit it brings, I guess. Anyway, we can offer the same service to the customers, for extra security I can inscribe their name on it, for an added fee, and if they want a specific exterior then I could also make that change, for another added fee, of course," he said
"Great, I'll start promoting it in the store," she said excitedly.
"But I need to see them personally to tailor it for them, and I don't want to spend my whole day with them. So, for those who want the particular design, let's have them drop a drawing and I'll make it for them. For those that was the added security, let them come to the store from 4-5 in the evening and I'll be able to attend them," said Kenneth and Nagini agreed.
They ironed out the details of the promotion and they started to make more rings. Kenneth did not use his wand; he simply wrote the runes with his finger tip. In the beginning, the runes he wrote broke down, but who was he? He had insane affinity with magic, with it, he was soon able to create spatial items faster than Nagini. Writing them with his finger made it faster as well, Nagini ended up trying to use her finger to inscribe them as well, but failed badly. She claimed she was going to practice in her free time.
When it was time for their appointment with Madam Malkin's, Kenneth asked, "Nagini, can you release the restrain on the mark on your forehead, there is something I would like to check."
"Easy," she said as she released the morning start mark on her forehead.
Kenneth was observing her with his soul eye, the moment Nagini release her restrain, her magical force cheered as they condensed together, in few seconds, her magical force in her core jumped from purple to blue. She also had a system of veins running through her, but it was not as developed as Kenneth's.
"What do you see?" she asked, Kenneth lied, "My body had become extremely sensitive to magic, I just wanted to feel the qualitative jump that was happening in your body. I can sense that the quality of your magic permanently improving by a small margin when you release the mark, I suggest you take time to release it every day so your magic will improve." He only said part of the truth, Nagini will improve her magic when she releases the mark. He did not want to tell the truth, not because he did not trust her, it was for her protection, the more she knew the more in danger she was going to be in. The fact that she already knew he was experimented on by Voldemort was already too much for her to know, luckily everyone knew Voldemort experimented with dark magic a lot, having one or two victims was normal. Kenneth was scared to lose her like everyone he had lost in his life, if he was not scared, he would have gone to his aunt already.
Kenneth took her hand and said, "We have made enough spatial items for the rest of the week, it's quite easy for me, so how about you leave the making of the items to me? You can focus on managing the store, just inscribe them when you want to train your magic."
Nagini thought for a moment before hugging him and said, "Thanks Jason, we will do it as you said. I do want to practice my wandless magic, seeing you do it so effortlessly made me want it as well."
"It's time, how about we head to Madam Malkin's?" he asked, to which Nagini nodded. She grabbed few of the items they had created and handed them to Jennet as they walked out of the store.
Kenneth looked around in the alleyway and took everything in through his soul eye. As he expected, most of the wizards and witches had red coloured cores in them, there were few older people who had purple magic core in their body. He could not see a single blue magical core; most people barely had the system of veins running through them. For the ones that did have little bit of it, it looked like dried up trees that spread from their cores.
"It seems that magic is not deteriorating like the pureblood extremist keep saying, it's just the knowledge on improving the purity of magic is lost," Kenneth thought.
They arrived in front of the store that had a black signboard with golden letters on it that read "Madam Malkin's robes for all occasions". The store was made with dark wood with two window displays at either side of its double door. The interior of the shop was filled with different colours of fabrics and cloths on display. There were few workers, helping out different customers in the shop.
"Cynthia, please tell the madam that me and my husband is here," Nagini said to the girl on the counter. Cynthia nodded and looked at Kenneth for a few seconds longer than necessary before heading upstairs.
Few moments later, Madam Malkin walked down, she had purple magic flowing through her, she greeted Nagini and Kenneth and took them upstairs. Kenneth was very impressed at what he found upstairs, one side of the room had camara and lighting set up and racks of different outfits, few people was few people was standing around and chatting, while on the other side was a Victorian style balcony with a white tea table and white wireframed chairs. The balcony was spacious and was decorated with flowers and plants. The most impressive part was that what Kenneth saw was all illusions. Except the table and the chairs, other things did not exist.
"Let me introduce you to Chris Cooper, he is the photographer for today, he is very famous in the entertaining magical world, he does a lot of work with the daily prophet. Chris this is Nagini Webb and Jason Webb, they are the models I prepared for you this year," introduced Madam Malkin.
"Wow, madam, when you said you already had the models, I did not expect much, but these two are perfect," said Chris, then he took Nagini's hand and kissed it, then shook Kenneth's hand and said, "Pleasure to make your acquaintance Mr. and Mrs. Webb, I have to say, with just one look anyone can tell you two are match made in heaven. Have you any experience modelling?"
"Pleasure's all ours Mr. Cooper, no, this is our first time, we run a spatial item shop few stores down the alley," said Kenneth, while Nagini just smiled at Chris.
"Please, just call me Chris. Well, it doesn't matter if you don't have the experience, with just your looks its already a success!" said Chris, then he called one of his assistants and said, "This is Rose, our makeup specialists. Rose, be a darling and take good care of Mr. and Mrs. Webb." To which Rose nodded and guided Nagini and Kenneth to dress up.
The first set was where Kenneth and Nagini had to act like a married couple, Kenneth had to read the newspaper while Nagini was drinking tea. The second set was and actually in a red telephone booth, they had to act as young lovers. The third set was in a ball room, where they wore dress robes and waltzed for a while. The style of clothing that was designed was from the 50s-60s.
"Marvellous, absolutely marvellous. I have not enjoyed a photography session for such a long time." said Chris. They had warmed up to each other throughout the session
"It was an interesting experience for us as well, Chris," said Nagini, she was happy to play house with Kenneth. The different set excited the little girl in her.
"Thank you too Madam, for inviting us," said Kenneth.
"It's nothing, it was the right move to invite you two, having you two really helped out with the visuals, I won't for forget our deal," said Madam Malkin.
When Kenneth and Nagini left the store, they were given the sets of cloths that they wore on the sets as a gift. They thanked the Madam and said their good bye to Chris and walked up the alley.
"I need to get the curriculum for the 7 years of Hogwarts, were can I get them?" asked Kenneth.
"Actually, I never had a formal education either, so I already bought them to study magic in the last 6 years, I did my O.W.Ls last year and started reading the 7th year material. How about I give you my books and notes?" said Nagini.
"Okay, that would be good. But I still want to take a look, perhaps there are other books that I want to study." Said Kenneth.
"In that case, Flourish and Blotts is where you want to go. Also, there is a 2nd hand book shop near home as well," said Nagini, told him telepathically, "If you want dark magic book, it has to be in the Knockturn Alley."
