Chapter 14: Knockturn Alley
Kenneth left the examination centre with a smile on his face. The moment he performed a wordless Petronus, they did not continue the exam, prof. Marchbanks even offered a job for him at WEA. He politely declined as he had other plans for his future. The results of the examination were to come out in a month. He transformed into a cat and started making his way back home.
While he jumping from roof top to roof top, he suddenly came into an immediate stop. It was because his cat ears heard a voice that he would never forget. One of the many voices that haunted him in his dreams. It was one of the death eaters that was present in the attack on the Bones family, he looked at the man who was talking, he never seen his face before because of the death eater's mask, but his voice, Kenneth remembered very well. The man had short brown hair and brown eyes, had an average slim build. He was next to a woman who had similar appearance to himself, with one look you could tell that they were related. Curbing his anger that wanted to lash out, Kenneth transformed into a raven and started to stealthily follow them.
"Do you think we will be able to get what we want?" asked the man.
"This supplier is trustworthy only because he only cares for money, even if he refuses to help us, you know how I persuasive I am," said the women.
"Of course, who in Britain did not know how talented Alecto Corrow can be with the imperius curse?" said the man. Kenneth instantly knew the identity of the siblings, Amycus and Alecto Corrow, death eaters who fought in both wizarding wars staged by Voldemort, known to have killed and tortured multiple muggles. Kenneth had thought that the siblings had moved out of Britain since the ministry was on the hunt for them.
Kenneth was not ready to take action against the death eaters, he had 60 years of fighting experience in the soul world, but that was without magic. Magical duelling was not his forte, of course, if he went all out and used his innate magic and his transformations, the siblings would not stand a chance. But the risk of exposing himself and putting Nagini, his aunt and cousin in danger for just two death eaters was not worth it.
So, he did the next best thing, when he saw the siblings enter The White Wyvern, a pub in the Knockturn Alley, Kenneth transformed back into a human and start writing a letter to Kingsley Shacklebolt the Auror, he was one of the connections Kenneth had made while creating a personalised spatial item. The letter simply stated that Kenneth saw the Death Eater siblings heading into the pub while he was on his way home from the examination. he turned the letter into a paper plane and placed an invisibility charm that would fade when reaching its destination, with was the Kingsley's desk in the Auror office.
After sending off the letter, he turned himself into a spider before entering the pub through its roof tiles. Since it was still day time, the pub was relatively bright, however there was only few people sitting around drinking. With just one look and anyone would know that these are the sort of people you stay away from in the movies. Kenneth located the siblings sitting in a corner of the pub and moved his way over.
The Corrow siblings was talking to another man, the man said, "Well I see you have the money, as promised, the items you requested will be delivered to you now."
"You did not bring the items with you?!" asked the Alecto.
"Oh please, your death eaters aren't really trustworthy, especially you, Alecto, who is famous for using the imperius curse. I had to leave myself a life line, right? But I find it really interesting, body parts of XXXXX creatures that are strictly banned around the world, the Lethifolds are especially difficult to find, why would you two need them?" asked the man.
"Ask questions that will keep you alive, Cox, I heard that you recently got married. You don't want to become a widow before you die, do you?" asked Amycus.
The man surnamed Cox paled a bit and quickly said, "fine fine, I won't ask. Anyway, I'll take my leave, the items will be brought to you five minutes after I leave."
"Know the consequences if we don't receive what we paid for." commented Alecto, after Cox left she said to her brother, "Damn it, if the dark lord was here, he would not dare speak to us that way!"
Kenneth got nervous when five minutes passed and the items were delivered. The siblings got up to leave, but soon things changed. He felt there was a change in the magic in the atmosphere, activating his soul eye, he knew that an anti-apparating ward had been placed. He knew the Aurors had arrived. He placed a spatial shield around himself just in case a stray spell wanted to hit him, and waited for the show to begin. Today would be the first day were he would witness a wizarding duel between Aurors and Death Eaters.
Kinsley barged into the pub with three other Aurors behind him, after spotting the siblings he casted a wordless stunning spell at the siblings, it hit Alecto and blasted her backwords rending her immobile. One of the other Aurors shouted, "All of you back, we are Aurors from the ministry, we got a tip that two Death Eaters are in the pub." The other two Aurors, casted stunning spells at Amycus, who by this time was ready. Amycus did not panic at all, he drew his wand out and casted a spell that sent all the table and chairs flying at the Aurors. The spells hit the few furniture and got shredded into pieces.
Amycus then shouted, "I'm sure they will interrogate all of you for being in this pub with us, let's break our way through!" The aurors had underestimated the filth that would hang around a pub in Knockturn Alley because Amycus' words worked a miracle, three others in the pub started duelling with the Aurors, this gave Amycus time to un-stunned his sister and help her back onto her feet.
Only a single minute had passed and the duel had moved outside the now destroyed pub. The bystanders all had their wands drawn out to protect themselves while fleeing the scene. Kenneth had transformed himself into a black fox and was sitting on one of the roof tops observing the entire 5 vs 4 duel. The two side were evenly matched, the 3 wizards that joined in on the fight was not well versed in duelling as the aurors or the death eaters.
The siblings knew the longer the fight went on for the bigger the chance more aurors would arrive. So, they abandoned the fight at ran deeper into the alley hoping to get away from the anti-apparating ward. Having the upper hand, the aurors started to subdue the other three. As for Kenneth, he was following the siblings, he was not about to let the murderers of his family just get away.
The siblings went into a side alley and stopped for a breather, Amycus said, "Damn that Cox, he was probably the one to tip them off."
"We got away, so we can always go visit him and his family, let's get out of here first," said Alecto.
The two siblings rushed through the alley way only to find a black fox with silver eyes, sitting in the middle of the road, staring at them. They halted the moment they noticed the oddity of the creature. They still could not apparate out as the ward was still effective.
"Who are you?" asked Amycus, and Alecto said, "Who cares? Just kill it and let's get out of here!"
However, before they could do anything, they saw the fox's eyes glow in a multi-colour light and a white light blasted from its body, engulfing the siblings entirely. The siblings found themselves surrounded by darkness, they could breathe and hear fine, but they could not see a single thing, even their own hands was not visible to them.
"What the heck is this?! Amycus are you there?!" shouted Alecto.
"Shh, I can hear you; you want to get the attention of the aurors? Whatever it is we simply can't see anything around us!" whispered Amycus, then he projected his voice outward, "Who are you? What do you want from us?"
What Kenneth had done was to use his innate dwarven ability to manipulate elements, he created a 50-meter dome around himself and banned even a single ray of light from entering the dome, so from outside, the dome was shining and reflecting all the photons that hit it, and inside the dome was absolute darkness. Even Kenneth could not see anything, but he did not need to, he had activated his soul eye, the purple magical cores on the siblings lit them up brightly like a lighthouse in the darkest of nights. He looked at the siblings as though a hunter looking at his prey.
The more he looked at the siblings the angrier he got, he wanted to kill them but was holding back the urge, he did not know if he wanted to let the Aurors have them or just kill them, after all, if Kenneth does not interfere, Voldemort will be back in the future and the massive Azkaban breakout will also happen. Kenneth knew he did not have much time, so he casted full body binding jinxes at the siblings, transformed into his human form and grabbed their necks and teleported out of Knockturn Alley. The moment they left, light flooded back into the area while Kinsley rushed into the alley, only to find nothing.
When Kenneth and the siblings reappeared, they were in France, but it was only momentary as they teleported again. This time when they reappeared, they were in Voldemort's lab in Albania where Kenneth woke up in.
Kenneth did not unbind them, but only stare at them. At this moment he was having a massive internal battle, the longer he looked at them they more he saw his family dying, his father killing his sister, his mother, grandparent and his cousins' parents fighting against the death eaters while trying to protect the kids, and one by one dying. Kenneth was reliving the past in his head.
Consumed by his hatred, he waved his hand lifting the siblings up into the air, and had them face each other. He wanted to let them see each other's demise just as he had seen his family's demise. Kenneth then pointed his finger forward and started writing 10 gravity runes, five for each sibling, one went to the top of their head and the other four each of their limbs. Then he slowly channelled magic into the rune, and the pulling force on the limbs slowly increased at a very slow pace and Kenneth finally unbound them.
"What do you want from us?" asked Alecto, she was finally afraid. They struggled to break free but the runes pulling them from all directions kept them firmly in place. They both knew what was happening and what was about to happen, they were forced to watch each other be ripped from limb to limb and the process was going to be very very slow.
Kenneth did not comment, instead he took a seat on the bed he woke up on and quietly watched them with his cold silver eyes as they fell into despair.
