Chapter 4: First encounter 3

As they left Kiara stood by the wall and heaved out a heavy sigh. She patted her chest that had been acting up all of a sudden ever since she had laid an eye on him. The feeling of butterflies running around in her stomach was felt by her for the first time when she laid her eyes on him she wasn't entirely sure why she felt like that but she didn't hate the change.

Kiara stood up straight again after taking a rest and headed back into the room where her patient was. This time she walked up closer to his side and saw his face up close. He had a young-looking face with thick black hair resting on his forehead. His dark eyebrows were creased as if he was having a bad dream. Kiara instinctively pressed her finger on his forehead to relax his muscles. She pushed away from the hair from his forehead to reveal a white bandage that was hiding under the curtain of his hair. She gazed at the other part of the face where he was wrapped up in white and pouted sadly. "Why did they beat you up like that?" She poked his cheek to get a response but he lay there motionlessly. "Are you a part of some kind of gang? Did you piss off their boss or something?" She muttered and got no response.

It wasn't that she was expecting him to answer, she just couldn't help but look at him sleeping there soundly. After a few moments, the sleep that she had been holding back kicked in and she yawned with a wide mouth. "I better go to sleep," she retreated from the bedside and sat up on the couch beside the bed. She then curled up her legs onto the couch and made herself comfortable before instantly falling asleep.

She was not sure how long she had slept but the reason she woke up was the severe coughing sound she heard. Kiara sprang up from the couch and looked at the guy coughing dryly. She looked around in haste and spotted a water bottle. She poured it into a glass by the table and held it against his lip. "Drink this." She said. The guy gulped in the water as if he had been thirsty for days. The Glass was empty in just a few seconds and he looked at it with sad eyes. Kiara poured him another one and he drank that as well. When his thirst was finally quenched Kiara took a deep breath and spoke. "You scared me!"

He looked at her with surprise. It was obviously surprising for him to see someone unknown helping him out. "Where am I?" He asked in a low sick tone. Kiara looked at him for a second and the weird feeling started to bubble up in her chest again. She gulped in her thoughts and replied. "It's the hospital, You are being treated."

"Hospital? WHo brought me here?" His voice wasn't any louder than a normal whisper, It seemed as if he had a throat infection or he had a shouting competition with someone.

"I did, Now go back to sleep and don't wake up!" She pushed him back to bed but he resisted. "No! I have to go," His voice trembled, and he pushed away from the blanket with one hand because the other one was plastered. Kiara's heart shivered because the pain in his voice was too deep, she couldn't hold herself and asked. "Where do you have to go in this condition? You can't even walk properly."

He looked Kiara in the eyes, It was the first time he met her eyes. "My Mother… I need to see her before she is buried. I want to see her one last time." tears poured into his eyes and very conveniently dripped down his face as if it was a very familiar path for them.

Kiara stood there with a face as blank as a slate. For a few moments, she thought that all her senses had stopped working. She almost forgot to breathe when she saw the tearful eyes.

"Okay, I will send you back," With no other questions asked she walked out of the room.

It was 10 in the morning when she looked down at her phone screen. Her manager had given her two days' leave and that made her a little delighted.

After doing all the paperwork she entered the room where the nurses had already helped him into a wheelchair. "YOu can go now, And here are your files." She handed over his x-ray reports to him that she had received at the reception.

"Thank you for helping me," He said with a smile, "I will try to repay the kindness you have shown me,"

"There is no need for that," Kiara replied and stepped out of the door. She didn't want to meddle in his business too much as she didn't know who he was so the most sensible thing for her was to call a taxi for him and split their ways. Kiara glanced at him through the small glass in the door for one last time before walking away with an uneasy heartbeat.

Kiara didn't look back and she went back home. An extravagant apartment on the 8th floor of the building welcomed her with its deep silence. It had been that way ever since she had stepped in there. She hung her bag by the side and changed her shoes before going into her room. She took a bath and tried to wash off everything she had witnessed since yesterday. After she had had the bath she tied the robe around her waist and draped her head with a towel and tossed herself on the bed without drying out completely.

"(Inhale) Let's go to sleep now!" She breathed in all the air her lungs would allow and closed her eyes but as soon as her eyelids got to shut the deep black sad eyes flashed before her causing her to jump up in the bed. She held onto her chest that was fluttering once again. "Why did I think of him again?"
