Chapter 88: Chapter 88

"Hey, Aunt Lia did you open up any of the windows? It suddenly got really chilly" said Princess Liora with a shiver.

"No, but maybe the Docter or one of the nurses did."

"Ok well, I just finished my duties. What should I do next?"

"Let's go ask the Docter. He should be in the other ro...AH!"

All of a sudden a bright glint came crashing down toward the Mayor's wife. The Princess released a loud scream.

Lia and Liora both thought that they would soon be engulfed in a blanket of darkness but it never happened.

Liora had closed her eyes but was now slowly opening them. In front of her, she saw her aunt unscathed. In front of her aunt was a bloodied body falling to the ground. Standing over the body were four hooded figures.

"Well, ain't you lucky" commented one of them.

Liora and Lia were afraid and frozen. What happened? The only thing Liora realized was that the corpse belonged to one of Sir Kane's men. He had saved Lia from being assassinated!

Liora couldn't move and didn't make a sound. Lia tried to yell for help but a blade was trusted toward her.

A loud clank rang through everyone's ears. Lia saw that another blade had blocked the one that was headed toward her. Liora witnesses three men, all Kane's men standing between Lia and the assassins.

"You dare try and stop us! Get out of here worms! You are no match for us even if you were at the peak of health!" said one of the assassins.

"S..sorry but that's not gonna happen. You dare try and harm people the lord has gone out of his way to protect. Time to show you a true warrior's death!"

The three soldiers launched themselves at the assassins. They were already bleeding and hadn't locked their blades yet but that did not stop them. A fiery passion, an unbreakable will, and a bit of alcohol they found in one of the drawers helped lead their charge toward the assassins. It may have been impossible to survive this but it did not matter to them. They rushed the first assassin managing to tackle him down to the ground and gouge out his eyes but then were quickly dispatched by the other two assassins.

The two women had little time to be shocked or mourn as they ran out toward the entrance. Tears started to well up in Liora's eyes as they ran past several bodies including the doctors.

"HELP!" yelled both women.

Bursting through the door they ran right into a hard surface.

"Oof!"

Liora fell down and Lia stumbled.

Both managed to get up pretty quickly and realized it was a giant of a man who they ran into.

The man was Galter and he moved to stand in front of the ladies. Two guards were at his side and raising their swords.

"Princess and Misstress Lia please stay behind us! We will protect you!" yelled one of the guards.

Both ladies still scared and panting heavily watched as the large man swung his mace into one of the assassins, launching him into the doctor's house. Blood splattered everywhere.

The death of their comrade did not stop the other assassin's momentum and they weaved to the side to face the guards at Galters side. One guard was not able to react in time before a knife found its way through his defense and into his throat.

The second guard followed after managing to fend off the assassin for a few seconds. Their lack of combat experience really did show when facing these highly trained assassins.

Despite their victory over the guards, the assassins were not given the chance to celebrate as their heads were smashed together by Galter.

Liora had closed her eyes not wanting to watch the violence unfold. Fear surrounded her and the only comfort she had was being able to hear the breath of her aunt right next to her. They were somehow still alive.

"Are you two alright?"

The princess opened her eyes. Sir Kane was standing over her offering his hand. All fear suddenly sank away. His presence comforted her. She saw Lia getting helped up by the strange giant who had saved her. It seemed they had made it out of this ordeal. For the moment at least.

"Th..ank you, Sir Kane. You saved me again" said the princess weakly. Still weakened from the assassination attempt she mustered her words to thank the man.

After being helped up she embraced Lia. Both of them had tears in their eyes but relief showed on their faces.

"We got here just in time" commented one of the knights. "We should go and check on the..."

A blood-curdling presence could be felt. The knight stopped mid-sentence. Kane gripped his sword.

"It seems another battle is upon us" commented Othes who had just walked out from behind Galter.

"That's the mayor's house!" yelled a guard.

Both Lia and Liora could be seen with a face full of worry.

"Guard them!" yelled Kane while pointing at Lia and Liora. He had started toward where the sound of battle could be heard. He felt the presence of three battle masters meaning that the two generals as well as the mayor could be in trouble.
