Chapter 130: Chapter 130

The Iron Fangs were hardened warriors. They've slaughtered many, no remorse or mercy to be seen and fear? Nonexistent within the ranks of the mercenaries. Yet even with the high-ground advantage and their leader commanding them, there's just something about a horde of orcs, goblins, kobolds, and ratfolk that put even the most senior mercenary into a frenzy.

"Severus watch your back!"

"HELP!"

"Edwin go quick! They're pinned down!"

"Damnd beasts! How are we sup...Ack!"

Fukyo and Kane's human warriors did little in this battle. The horde charged with no fear and ferocious conviction, reminiscent of a dragon engulfing a herd of sheep. Despite the ambush, the creatures of the White Hand Horde specialized in the eradication of humans and unlike humans, had no fear of death but instead embraced it. Plus despite the cramped battlegrounds, Kellogs forces had the numbers to spare.

"Shields up! Don't let them break our formation!"

Axel Vane, captain of the Iron Fangs had seen his fair share of war. His ego may have been large but he never let it control him. His confidence stemmed not from his fighting but from his strategy. He relied on his men more specifically Leo, his second in command to carry out his orders. He would be a fantastical general but he preferred making money and ignoring rules, laws, and ethics. Currently, he stood behind a group of men with large kite shields, barking orders. His confidence was at an all time low. Despite his planning, it seemed that he underestimated the ferocity of these savages that the Iron Rose Kingdom had somehow acquired. On top of that, he had seen something that made him lose hope, something which had never thought would happen at least not at his current age.

"LEO!"

"How is this possible?" thought Axel. He watched as two knights appeared behind the king of the Iron Rose Kingdom, both emanating battle auras. Clearly battle masters. This meant his trump card, his battle master was at a disadvantage.

"You humans get distracted too easily," hissed someone behind Axel.

As the mercenaries screamed, Leo turned to see his captain's throat being slit by a ratfolk. Clearly a skilled assassin, his leader never had a chance.

"You are skilled but clearly only a novice battle master. Still more to be expected coming from a mercenary company. Leo was it? I'll offer you this chance once. Join me or join your cap...former captain."

Leo turned and looked at the three battle masters that stood before him. The one who spoke to him was the king, and the two others he did not know but they were stronger than he was. He had no chance of winning.

"...Tis only death..."

"Swoosh"

As Leo's head fell, Kane looked at the rest of the corpse, shaking his head.

"Brave but stupid. What a waste."

"He was weak. Nothing compared to you my liege," said Galter. General Fukyo, who stood next to Galter, nodded his head in agreement.

"True, but he was still a battle master. He could have been useful. And sadly it seems he did not have the art he used on hand. Clean up the rest of the battlefield. We can set up camp nearby. I see there are prisoners. Interrogate them. I want to know all the details of these mercenaries. They're definitely related to the kingdom of Kokar."

"Yes, Your Highness!"

Kane looked over the battlefield. At first he worried the battle would be difficult and long fought but it seemed relitively easy, well except for one thing. It seemed these mercenaries really did have the advantage. Kane realized this as he saw the price of victory. There were countless green corpses littering the battlefield. His horde was already weakened from the last battle but it seemed that this battle had shrunken it's numbers even more. He would need to work on replacing them fast.

"Maybe it would pay to visit the breeding grounds," thought Kane.
