Chapter 44: 4.4 Karina

Kali stumbled and leaned against the wall to support her balance. The splitting headache was starting to get to her.

Her former self, Karina, was trying to take over her body again. Before Kali reincarnated into this world, she was the strongest devil that ruled the underworld. Then one day, the angels started invading them. It was a long hard fought battle, but in the end, they had lost.

She was killed with a sword piercing through her heart.

Kali had woken up in this new world feeling refreshed, free of her responsibilities. Yet it seems she couldn't escape her past self, she would become a True Devil once again, and the horns she possessed was a sign of that.

Yet Kali didn't mind, she would inherit her abilities once again making her even stronger. But the problem would be the change in personality, it would either completely take over her, or combine them.

It didn't matter to her though.

For now, there were more important things to focus on. The top of the Tower of Heaven, she needed to get there before Erza did. With the use of Wind Magic, she soared through the sky, and was now in front of the door.

Kali opened it revealing Jellal's figure, he was sitting on his throne with a chessboard to his side.

"My, my, is the game already over?" Jellal got up from his throne and faced Kali. "You're a bit too late, Kali."

"What do you mean?" Kali asked.

"You see, the Tower of Heaven has already been completed." Jellal replied.

"And so what? It'll be destroyed in less than ten minutes and in that time, I will take you down." Kali said.

"Ah, you're speaking of the Etherion? It will rain down and I will use you as a sacrifice!" Jellal said with an evil laugh.

"Keep being delusional, I would never die to the likes of you, nor to anyone in this world. Your fate has been sealed, this is the end for you." Kali said.

"Then let's see if you can really do that!" Jellal exclaimed, his right eye formed a strange pattern.

Manipulation Magic. He would take over one's mind and they would be fully controlled by the person who casted the magic.

However, Jellal didn't realize that Kali was fully immune to any sort of manipulation magic. In fact, it was better for her since the devil inside her would be released.

Jellal was confused, Kali seemed to be in a state of shock, but he couldn't control her. He casted it again but nothing was working. He gave up on the plan of manipulating her, after all, there was Erza. He was about to kill Kali when her yellow ringed eyes suddenly glowed before returning to normal.

"Huh?" Jellal muttered in surprise.

"Ah, I'm finally free." she said as she stretched her arms, staring at Jellal. "I must thank you for giving me this opportunity, I can have some fun."

"What the hell is going on? Whatever, Kali. You will die right here!" Jellal said as dark magic started to pour out of him."Die!"

"Don't call me by that human's name, I am Karina. And death you say? Unfortunately, I think that is your fate, not mine." Karina said.

At this point, Jellal was more than confused. There were horns on top of Karina as if she was the devil herself. He decided to stop thinking and just finish what he came here to do.

Jellal ran at Karina with dark magic emitting from his palm. Just as he was about to hit Karina, the world had suddenly flipped. He was thrown over shoulder and his back slammed onto the ground.

"You're a hundred years too early to even try landing a punch on me, let alone touching me at all." Karina said.

A magic that was forbidden in this world, a magic that played with the laws of the world. Void Magic, a type of magic that furthered the potential of Space Magic. The manipulation of everything inside the space.

Jellal stared at his arm in horror as it started to twist and exert excruciating pain to his body. He quickly fired magic at Karina causing her to stop his arm from completely disappearing into nothing.

"What the hell are you?!" Jellal exclaimed, he started to feel goosebumps. The feeling of fear he hasn't felt in a long time.

"I am Karina, the True Devil, and the true possessor of this human body." Karina said as she flung Jellal to the wall. "Now goodbye."

A dark purple aura emitted from Karina's palm and Jellal's eyes widened. He felt it, he felt death right in front of his eyes. The epitome of a true devil, that was the figure that was slowly walking towards him with a wide grin.

Yes, that was Karina, the grim reaper that would take his soul.

Suddenly, a voice called out to them.

"Stop!"

Karina turned to the familiar voice and was amused. It was Erza, the red haired girl who Kali had a soft spot for. Since they shared the same body, naturally they would share the same memories. After all, they are the same person.

"Kali! Don't kill him!" Erza yelled. She suddenly froze when Kali had turned towards her, the appearance was the same, but the aura was different.

It was evil, terrifying, and was full of death.

"You're not Kali, who are you?" Erza asked, her blade pointed at the impersonator.

"You can say I'm her true self. My name is Karina and Kali is just a separate part of me that plays as a human." Karina said, amused at the situation.

"I would like to talk about it, but I have other important matters to attend to." Erza said as she walked to Jellal and hit him with a right hook. "Did you have fun playing with people's lives?!"

"Haha…HAHAHAHA!" Jellal covered his eyes with his hand. "You know, thank god you showed up."

"Huh?"

A bubble covered in strange patterns, the patterns that were once on his eye, had trapped Erza.

"It seems you forgot something, my existence." Karina said, snapping her fingers.

A dark purple flame appeared, eating away at the bubble until it fully disappeared. Erza had been easily freed and left Jellal puzzled. He had run out of ideas, there were no more pieces on the board for him to use.

It was a checkmate.

Erza pressed her blade against the neck of Jellal.

"Will you really kill me, Erza?" Jellal asked.

"Of course, I don't fear anything anymore. Not even you." Erza replied.

"Then kill me, Erza. I am nothing but a mere puppet for resurrecting Zeref's spirit. I couldn't be saved. Everything ended before it even began." Jellal said.

"Explain everything, Jellal! What do you mean a mere puppet for resurrecting Zeref?" Erza asked.

"I knew the R-System wouldn't be completed, however, the spirit of Zeref wouldn't let me go." Jellal said.

The tower had started shaking, pebbles, and the pieces of wall had started to slowly drop down from the ceiling.

Karina had waited until the two finished their conversation. Surprisingly, Erza had left Jellal alive. But that was to be expected, Erza didn't have the heart to kill Jellal. She turned around only to see them having a handshake while everything was crumbling down.

"You two, it seems a huge burst of magic is coming towards us. The two of you better get moving." Karina said.

"That's the Etherion, the Magic Council wants to destroy the Tower of Heaven alongside us. They're killing two birds with one stone." Erza said.

Karina noticed the strange expression Jellal possessed as if he wanted this to happen. So, Karina decided to let the Etherion hit them. And just as she expected, they had survived.

"HAHAHAHA! WITH THE LACRIMA, THE R-SYSTEM HAS BEEN COMPLETED!" Jellal yelled, his voice laced with excitement.

Erza had this look on her face as if she hadn't expected Jellal to betray her. Once a traitor, always a traitor.
