Chapter 2: The Conversation

After Delia read the note, everyone was in a state of shock then Tiffany suddenly started laughing and gasped out "ha! Now what is that supposed to mean?"

Jackie snorted with laughter too "I have no fucking idea, but it's weird"

Natalie however took the letter from Delia and after scanning it, she said frowning "I think I know what it means-"

"GUYS OH MY GOD YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE WHO I JUST SAW!" a voice shouted nearby.

They all turned to see Stella racing down the main stairs and skidding to a stop in front of them. She grabbed Delia for support and panting heavily managed to say "I was just getting my lunchbox from Mrs. Galilees room when I saw STEPHAN MINGUS walking into the room! When he saw me he smiled and he looked SO FUCKING HOT! I want to have his child!"

At this point, the whole hallway became startling quiet, you would be able to hear a needle drop to the ground. Everyone was staring at Stella, no one talking or speaking a word.

"Umm, awkward much?" Stella half whispered. Someone wolf whistled and suddenly everyone went back to normal.

Stella becoming really confused straightened herself up and asked "umm, why was everyone so quiet?"

Delia suddenly started laughing at Stella, which was contagious to Tiffany and Natalie, who joined in the laughter. They all laughed until they were gasping for breath staring at Stella's head cocked into a confused expression.

"Can someone tell me what the hell is going on?!" Stella asked demandingly.

"Give me a minute," Tiffany panted, wiping a tear from her eye.

Catching her breath, Jackie replied "Shit, chill Stella. Stephan is surprisingly hot, we all know since we saw him just now, he looks better than Sebastian almost, but here" she turned serious and handed Stella the note. "Read this and tell me what it means."

"She doesn't need to understand it because I know what it means already," said Natalie. "And I thought you guys were the smart ones."

"So what does it mean Natalie?" Questioned Jackie, giving her an eye roll.

"It's easy, first look at what it says right here; 'I also have an idea about what you could say to the people that think your straight.' So that means that he's not straight."

"What does that mean then?" Stella asked.

"Where does it say that he isn't straight?" Delia asked, confused.

"Fuck Natalie, you're definitely right," replied Tiffany, realization dawning upon her face.

Delia smirked.

"Wait, so you're telling me that Mingus is, is g-gay?" Stella asked with a look of terror in her eyes.

"Your beloved male god," Tiffany sighed.

"Is this some sort of joke?" Delia asked, her smile fading.

Jackie suddenly let out a loud cackle of laughter and they all jumped, staring at her. A girl nearby turned, Hannah, she brushed her long brown hair out of her face, baring her pointed vampire teeth, and ordered coolly, "Shut up bitch."

A few people who heard this laughed and Hannah's best friend Shannon said to her, "don't waste your breath on those imbeciles." Then the two popular vampires walked off with a group of worshippers following them.

"Ugh, fuck them," Tiffany sighed.

"Yea, I wonder why though..." Delia trailed off thoughtfully.

Natalie suddenly said, "You're so pathetic, just ignore them."

Tiffany sighed again but Jackie frowned and addressing Natalie said, "Returning to the matter on hand, does the note mean that he's gay?"

"Yes it does mean that but," Natalie said frowning, "Who is this 'Mary Mingus'?"

"Probably just some sister or something." Stella replied dramatically, wiping fake tears of a broken heart out of her eyes.

"I think we should put this back into his backpack, if he notices that it's gone-," Tiffany said, not finishing her sentence. "Who has first period with Mingus? Anyone?"

Natalie raised her hand halfway up "I think I do, why?"

"Because you need to give this to him, or sneak it into his backpack when he isn't paying attention" Tiffany said.

"What? No!" Natalie exclaimed.

"Well you have to; we can't let him know that we know about him." Jackie said, taking the note and handing it to Natalie watching her expectantly.

"F-i-n-e," Natalie huffed, and took the note from Jackie, slipping it into her back pocket.

Then a girl with short wavy brown hair, wearing purple and black clothes walked into the hall. She was talking to another girl with water droplets clinging in her hair, feverishly brushing it out, wearing a teal dress making her look like a mermaid. The rain had stopped by then. The two mermaids joined the group.

Stella spotted the one brushing her hair, she screamed, "Kaitlin!" and ran over to hug her.

Kaitlin laughed shyly and hugged her back saying "Hey! It's so good to see you guys, I missed you so much!"

Delia smiled and replied "Same! I've missed you so much, why is your hair wet though?"

"I went for a quick swim this morning but then my hair got tangled up by the seaweed. And now it's all messed up!" Kaitlin sighed.

"It's not that bad, I've seen worse." Tiffany said calmingly leaning forward to help Kaitlin with her tangled hair.

Gertrude, the other mermaid, said quietly "I just learned this new spell that may fix up your hair fast, want me to try it?"

"Oh please help me!" Kaitlin said pleadingly.

"Okay," Gertrude said and closed her eyes concentrating hard. Everyone else stepped back except Kaitlin who looked nervous. Gertrude waved both her hands in a spiraling pattern and opening her eyes, pointing one finger at Kaitlin's hair, murmuring "Ascilink-tonian!" With a shimmering of purple sparkles, Kaitlin's hair became silky and braided into a fishtail tied with a teal ribbon. "Voila!"

Kaitlin pulled out a jewel encrusted mirror and inspected her hair grinning, "Thank you so much Gertrude, you're a life saver!"

"You need to teach me that spell Gertrude," Jackie said, "That was amazing!"

"Thanks!" Gertrude replied, smiling and blushing lightly.

Just as they continued to talk, the bell rang and all the other people said their own goodbyes and departed to their classes. A surge of people rushed up the main stairs sweeping up Kaitlin, Gertrude, Natalie, Tiffany, Jackie, and Stella.

"Hey! My classroom's downstairs," Delia groaned and tried to go back downstairs but wasn't able to as the other people continued to hurry up the stairs to whatever floor they were getting to.

They all said hurried goodbye's to each other and went to their own classes. Natalie trudged upstairs until reaching the fourth floor, then she turned left into the first door and walked all the way to the end of the hallway, stopping only when reaching the furthest room on the right. A wooden sign decorated with different tubes of colorful liquid hung on the closed door read 'Mrs. Galilee, Chemistry'.

Sighing, Natalie opened the door and stepped inside. The interior of the room was actually quite big, three out of four walls lined up with tall counters and high cabinets filled with who knows what. The walls were a bright yellow and the seats were all lined up against the counters facing the center of the room. A few people were already there, sitting at the seats looking expectant.

The teacher was nowhere to be seen, but Natalie spotted Stephan straight away, sitting at the far side of the room from the door. Natalie walked towards him cautiously and sat down on the seat two away from his. Stephan looked up as she sat down and smiled, Natalie half grinned her heart pounding.

She turned away to take her phone out. While she was in the process of taking it out however, she calmed her heart.

Why do I feel like this? She thought to herself.

She unlocked her phone and already saw two texts that Tiffany sent to their group chat;

'Did u give it to him yet?'

'Natalie! is he even in the classroom?'

Natalie smiled to herself and replied to her,

'Yes, he is in the classroom and I'm sitting close to where he is but his backpack is right next to him, not able to slip it in yet'

'text you when I do'.
