Chapter 63: Mordred Meeting 'Mother'?

(3 out of 3 chapters this week)

Mordred looked at the group of new arrivals. She was confused, very confused. She gets the whole picture of 'faction war' but there are only two Servants of this faction in front of her!

Yet, there are more than two very powerful beings in this group.

Her eyes ended up on a pale blonde woman with blue eyes.

"...Mother?"

The woman's eyebrows twitched severely when she heard that 'title'.

"No. I am not, I am the Fae Incarnation of Morgan, not human."

"...Did you just say Fae incarnation!?" Kairi exclaimed with pure horror. For such a being to be among people in modern times… it's… he is out of words!

"Precisely."

"What someone like you is doing here!?"

"Isn't it obvious?" Morgan crossed her arms and looked annoyed for a bit, a small scoff left her lips before she explained a little bit more.

"I am going everywhere where my husband goes. That much should be obvious."

"Right…"

It's official, they are fucked, there is no way in hell this is going to end on a 'regular' note. Nope, if there is a Great Mother tier Fae and a Magician with an array of Servants then there is something bigger brewing.

For a simple Bounty Hunter, this is way, way past his pay grade!

"So…you are my step-father then?" Mordred, who couldn't read the atmosphere, asked without care.

Morgan's eyebrows twitched hard if this was her old self, Saber of Red would have ended as a mist of blood by this point.

But it doesn't mean she can't threaten her!

As ice-blue portals opened up around Mordred an array of dragon-slaying swords from the Norse and the Western world surrounded the Knight of Treachery.

"Didn't I make it clear? Mordred? I am not your mother. I am not human! Doesn't that make it clear?"

*Gulp*

*Gulp*

*Gulp*

All of the Artorias and the Bounty Hunter gulped down nervously, Mordred who was already pale behind her helmet rapidly nodded several times.

The message was clear!

"Good. I hope you remember that, next time—" The Pale blonde Witch looked at Kairi." You will need a new Saber."

"I hope we don't come to that." The Bounty Hunter looked at his Servant.

"Indeed." Morgan agreed to his words as she recalled her weapons and stored them back in her Gate.

Same time Ren recalled his chains which made Mordred land on the ground. Saber of Red stretched for a bit, getting back into her form.

The Knight of Treachery is feeling awkward now. The current situation is strange, to say the least.

From her perspective, this Magician guy is collecting things from her homeland. Starting with her 'mother' and ending with her 'father'.

What does he have in between!?

"So what now? Can I get some sort of plan? I don't want to interfere with whatever you people are doing." The Necromancer Bounty Hunter asked in a more diplomatic voice. He wants nothing to do with this group of freaks who can slaughter their way through pretty much everything after he saw a couple of demonstrations.

"Sure." Ren agreed he then looked at his wife. "Dear, can we get a mind wipe for this area while I fix the destruction?"

Morgan nodded as she summoned her staff.

With a tap of her staff mist manifested around the whole area.

While Ren used his True Magic to fix the collateral damage.

Seconds later it looked like nothing had happened.

"Let's talk."

~~~
Ren's group which includes his wife, his two Sabers and the Servants for this war were back at the outdoor restaurant, He has left Ereshkigal to take care of Gray. The girl has to get good at magecraft before they allow her to leave the premises of their territory.
Even so, the atmosphere was quite awkward with Mordred staring at Ren for quite a bit.
Morgan simply closed her eyes and was enjoying her tea. Though she was sitting next to her husband and was his 'moral support'. Ren's Archer was on a rooftop in ghost form just in case while the Knights were standing behind their Masters.
It was quite a strange sight for a regular person, thankfully the town of Trifas learned to keep their mouth shut and just do their things.
Ignoring whatever craziness is happening in their ancient town.
"Let me get straight to the point." Ren started the conversation with the elephant in the room from the very beginning, something the bounty hunter liked.
"That would be for the best."
"The one who causes the purge is one in our camp."
"...Okay… since you know the identity, why don't you just get rid of him?"
"Because…" He pointed at Kairi's Saber then at his Sabers.
"They want to fight. You wouldn't want the conflict to end just like that."
Mordred blinked her eyes a couple of times. She likes that!
"...You are not so bad…" The wild-looking Saber nodded in appreciation.
"Right…" The Necromancer sarcastically nodded.
"Since he doesn't know that we know, you get the picture?"
"...Oh…I see… we can surprise this crazy asshole."
"Correct. For the grail to work, it has to absorb deceased Servants. The ritual itself is like that. The deceased Servants don't just return to the Throne. They are captured by the Greater Grail. They are the fuel for the wish."
"I see… so there is nothing to worry about for quite a while." Kairi sighed in relief as he leaned into his chair.
"Correct, for now, we can play the Grail War and diminish the numbers until he reveals himself."
"That's fine by me. I was planning to do that anyway."
"Good."
"And the cup? Since you are here to save the timeline and not get the wish I assume neither you nor your…wife, want anything to do with it? I assume the same for your…Sabers? And other Servants?"
"You don't need to worry about the small details. I have my camp secured on that end."
"Good to hear."
"Really? Father, you don't want anything?" Mordred asked with disbelief. She remembers how the King of Knights left Britain to look for the cup! Now she doesn't want it!?
*Double Sigh*
"You do understand that we are here far longer than you are, Mordred?"
"...This…" The Knight of Treachery was indeed wondering how long these two are around.
"What my goody two shoes is saying is right. We are winners of previous Grail Wars, what do you think happened? Hmm?" the Fallen Knight chipped in. How can she allow her other self to answer all the questions?
"...Wait…you have multiple cups!?" Mordred asked with a gulp.
"Having multiple cups is pointless, one is more than enough. My husband has one regular grail and one Greater Grail, the other one was left with the family responsible for it. There is no point for more." Morgan explained while finally opening her eyes and looking at Mordred with a complex look. One thing is certain, her Panhuman version sure made a good Homunculi.
"...Damn…"
No more words were coming from the pair.
Mordred has nothing to say… like…
"Regardless, enjoy the war. It's quite an experience. Let's go ladies."
The group proceeded to leave as they said what they wanted to say.
'You have a cup? You can use it anytime you want?' Atalante asked via the direct link she had with her Master.
'I do have it. And it's primed and ready for use.'
'Then…'
'You want me to grant your wish?
For a few moments, it was complete silence.
'No, but I want you to use it when I finish this war for you. That's my purpose here. At least one part of it. Once you grant my wish, I will honour the secondary part of the deal we agreed upon.'
'As my Huntress wants it shall be.' Ren teased his new Archer.
'...I have sworn an Oath of Chastity to Goddess Artemis. Please don't try to flirt with me.' Atalante has pointed that out.
'Huh? So how does it work? Since Artemis was head over heels for Orion. Does your oath even work as a power? Hmm, since you don't have it in your parameters as a skill it doesn't work does it?' Ren pondered on this, his thoughts were heard by the Huntress who was feeling like she was in a tight spot.
She knows that it's…superficial. The simple fact is that Alalante knows the stories about Orion and Artemis' love for him.
So even if she was forced to marry Artemis didn't punish her severely, it was more like a 'rescue' from a bad situation when she was turned into a lion.
'I will only discuss this if you beat me in a foot race without cheating.'
Once again Atalante decided to leave her fate to the race, just like in the myths.
'Ha, fine, as my Huntress wishes. Though don't regret leaving your fate to a simple race.'
'I won't. If you are better than me, then I will accept being yours. If you haven't realised, Master. I am someone who was raised in the wild. Strong rule, the weak follow or die.'
They explained with a plain and indifferent voice. No wonder her alignment is 'Evil' by normal human standards.
'Very well.'
However, Atalante wonders how a simple question regarding the cup ended with her sealing her fate in a foot race once more.
'*Sigh*'
~~~

'Do I have to be in this form?' Mordred asked with an annoyed voice. She disliked being in ghost form. It felt wrong not to feel her legs touching the ground.

"It's only for a few minutes, we are here to meet with the remaining Masters of Red Faction."

'Uh-huh…as if it matters. With my mother and father being here, there is very little they can do.' The Knight of Treachery quite arrogantly said that.

"There are many more heroes than just people from your time, Saber. However, I do agree that they are very dangerous." Kairi said with a small shiver. Not many things can make him feel such despair as a Fairy as powerful as that Great Mother who looks like Morgan.

'That's the thing. She called herself the 'Fairy incarnation of Morgan' which makes no sense to me. There should be more to that story.' The Necromancer thought to himself.

He knows well enough that Morgan is a Fairy either way. She was the one who took King Arthur to Avalon at the end of the myth.

'Still…there are a bunch of differences in the stories…'

As the Bounty Hunter was thinking about the Magician he arrived at a church in a small town not far from Trifas. This was the 'so-called' Headquarters of the Red Faction.

Who greeted him at the church was a white-haired young man.

'I don't like him.'

Mordred said this the moment she saw this priest.

"Hello, you must be the Bounty Hunter Kairi Sisigou, I am Father Kotomine Shirou, the selected representative for the Holy Church for this war."

"Yeah, that's me, so…where are the other Masters?" The Bounty Hunter asked curiously as he looked around.

"They are at the back, they elected me to command the Servants in a fight since I am the most experienced when it comes to such things."

'Uh-huh… as if I believe that. Something is fishy here.' Mordred scoffed while saying that.

'I suppose I have found the target who wants to turn this place into a Lostbelt.' Kairi commented to his Servant.

'You think it's him? Well, he is fishy but he hasn't shown anything strange.'

"Have you finished speaking to your Servant?" The priest asked nicely.

"Yeah, my Servant doesn't have a high opinion regarding priests."

"Pity. I wanted to show my sincerity by revealing my Servant." As he said that a woman manifested next to the priest. She had long black hair and elvish ears. She was something akin to an evil seductress.

The moment Kairi saw her he had a flashback of a woman with Pale blond hair and glowing icy blue eyes.

'A Witch…'

'Master…now I am 100% certain that this is the guy! He is the one!'

The Necromancer snorted upon hearing that. His Saber is so childish.
