Chapter 46: Chapter 46 Did You Do It?
Chloe frowned, "Are you going to be affected because of me?"
In fact, she forgot the whole magazine thing, and she would talk to Evan if necessary.
"No, don't worry. I just feel sorry for you since I heard that your photos were so amazing and were ready to be published very soon. But the scandal last night ruined it…"
Seeing Chloe pondering, Lisa stopped to comfort her, "I'm sorry, honey. Don't get me wrong. I'm not blaming you. Things can be complicated and it's not your fault. We still have many chances in the future."
Chloe didn't respond since she was focused on Nancy who was talking cheerfully with other doctors. She felt so sick last night, her face pale like hell, and recovered this soon? That was quite weird and suspicious.
"Lisa, I…"
At this moment, Chloe's phone rang and interrupted her. It was from K.
"You're back?"
Instead of answering, K was silent for a moment as if hesitating to break the news. Then he parted his lips, "The photo was posted in the hospital and I even traced the IP, the 8th floor, namely the doctors' office."
That was quite shocking and Chloe needed a moment to process it.
"You sure?"
K answered firmly, "Yes. My flight was delayed, so I spent the whole night investigating at the airport. Someone in the hospital placed an order online to ruin you. But I don't have the details. I succeeded in getting some clues but they were deleted very soon. Whoever did it really knows his stuff. Could be a professional hacker."
In a daze, Chloe walked to the 8th floor and saw Nancy's office.
A wild yet reasonable guess was taking shape in her mind, but she didn't dare to draw a conclusion.
"Chloe, are you still there?" K didn't hear Chloe and wondered.
"I'm thinking," Chloe answered, "I have a suspect in my mind, but I'm not sure if I'm right."
"Who?"
"A doctor and friend, I guess. But she had a severe stomachache last night. So it couldn't be her, right?" Chloe was a little hesitant.
But as she recalled, Nancy called her after the photo was posted. So she still had a chance. Besides, Nancy never mentioned the photo. Was she unaware of it, or she tried to look innocent?
After she hung up the phone, her brow furrowed.
Lisa felt the tense vibe and asked out of care, "Is everything okay? Who was on the phone?"
Chloe turned to Lisa, "Lisa, recently so much has happened to us. Do you think they are coincidences or someone is hiding behind them?"
It never occurred to Lisa. But after a second thought, she realized there couldn't be so many coincidences. The truth was obvious out there. Someone wanted to destroy them, which sent chills down her spine.
"Could it be Marlene or Frieda?"
Chloe shook her head, "I don't know. But K will be back soon and we will find it out."
Speaking of K, Lisa's eyes lit up. She showed a mischievous smile.
"Why are you smiling suddenly?"
"Tell me everything! Is K coming back to romance you?" Lisa looked at Chloe curiously.
Chloe was somewhat speechless, "Stop it. There's nothing between us, alright?"
Lisa sneered, "I don't believe it. Did you forget he used to send you chocolate every day?"
Chloe pinched Lisa's ear, "If you keep talking nonsense, I'll kick your ass."
Lisa grabbed Chloe's hand and begged, "Ouch. Let go of me!"
"Chloe, what are you doing here?" Nancy just came back to her office and saw them laughing happily. Somehow, she felt jealous and upset.
Chloe looked at Nancy and asked, "Do you feel better? You look in such pain last night."
"Much better. Thank you, for helping me last night."
Nancy walked closer and brought up the scandal, examining Chloe's expression, "I heard what happened last night. I feel so sorry for you. You don't deserve this. But since Daniel has solved it, there isn't much to worry about either."
Chloe's eyes suddenly reddened, "But because of me, the corporate stock has dropped. He shouldn't get involved. But he stepped in for me and suffered a loss financially. It's all my fault."
"Oh, poor Chloe. Don't cry. And stop blaming yourself. He did what it took to protect you and that's what a true friend will do. He is such a decent gentleman."
"He is. I have owed him a lot," Chloe sobbed, "You know what. Daniel has found that the photo was posted in the hospital. So the perpetrator was in the hospital, right among us. Do you have any idea who it might be?"
Nancy was dumbfounded for a second and calmed down quickly, "In the hospital? Do you think he knows us?"
Chloe shook her head, "I don't know. But it could be 'she' as well."
Surprised, Nancy smiled sweetly, "Oh? Are you suspecting me?"
Chloe was silent for a moment and smiled, "Don't be silly."
Nancy got more cautious and explained patiently, "Last night I was busy writing the medical records. Later I called you as I got a stomachache. I was so sick that I even forgot to take my phone with me when we headed to the emergency room. You knew it. I don't think I had any time for this."
Chloe shook her head again, "Don't get me wrong. I didn't suspect you, Nancy. I know you are my friend. You will never do this to me."
Nancy looked pitiful as if feeling hurt by suspicion. "I have to go. See you later."
Lisa heard everything and looked at Nancy's back, confused and shocked.
"Was she mad at you?" Lisa whispered, "But you never said she did it or implied it in any way."
Chloe felt weird, too. Nancy was being oversensitive, which looked even more suspicious to her now.
But this couldn't prove anything. She needed more to confirm her suspicion.
After thinking for a while, Chloe waved her hand, "Never mind. After all, she seems pretty nice to me and maybe she got her reasons."
"But her office is here! What a coincidence!" Lisa muttered.
"We need evidence instead of coincidence. Otherwise, we can't prove anything." Chloe yawned and walked away, "Let's go get something to eat."
Nancy reminded her with a smile, "How about your Mr. Bruce? Should we get him some food as well?"
"What are you talking about? He's not my Mr. Bruce! There is NOTHING between us."
