Chapter 21: Special Esper Research Labratory
Pausing briefly from my walk, I glance up from the piece of paper in my hand, giving my surroundings a good look over before looking back down, continuing on my way.
With the dim light of dawn shinning down on academy city, I continue my way through one of its many districts, searching for a specific location.
Of course, this isn't of my own accord. After Hyde had finished teasing me, she handed me a piece of paper and told me to get lost… well she didn't exactly say that, but she might have well…
Anyway, the paper was, of course a crudely scrawled map of academy city, with a specific building circled, seemingly where Hyde wants me to go. Luckily, she provided some barely legible words, which read 'Special Esper Research Laboratory'… well it probably said that…
Well, anyway, being the good lackey I am, I tracked down this research center down to one of the various districts of academy city.
Breathing out a slight sigh, I stuff the paper into my pocket, glancing around, hopping to ask someone for directions.
Of course, right now the streets of the city are sparsely populated, with the few people around being adults going to their jobs.
As my eyes sweep over the mostly empty street, I spot an individual, one who looked like the key to finding this research lab.
The person I had spotted was a tall, girl, who looked to be rather young. She had fluffy, chin length black hair, which covered one of her dim grey eyes. Of course, the thing that attracted my attention was the ankle length lab coat which was lazily strewn around her shoulders, which partially covered the black dress underneath.
Approaching the girl, who is currently shambling down the sidewalk, at a rather fast speed, I rapidly near her, only slowing down to match her pace once I catch up to her.
"Excuse me..?"
In an appropriate tone of voice, I call out to the tall girl, my voice slightly reverberating through the quiet street.
Hearing my voice, she stops briefly, before tilting her head back slightly, making eye contact with me at a weird angle.
"Huh, what is it?"
Responding to me with a rather rude choice of words, in a rather tired yet polite tone, I can't help but be confused.
'Ha… I can't tell if she's trying to be an ass or not… what a pain…'
Slightly reluctant at her behavior, I heave a rather heavy sigh in my heart as I reach my hand back into my jacket pocket. Pulling at the slightly crumpled paper, I push it forward toward her.
"Do you… know this… place…?"
Replying to her with my own odd behavior, in the form of my odd unchanging facial and vocal expressions, I wait for her answer, hopping to finally find this place.
A slight glint brightens up her dim eyes before she rapidly turns around, leans forward and grabs the paper from my hand… intently staring at it.
"Huh… That's the Special Esper Research center, isn't it?"
Continuing to stare at the paper for a few more moments, she peeks her eye slightly over the paper. Her single grey eye narrows slightly, as if scrutinizing my entire being.
Seeing her like this, it seems that my presence had woken her up from her previous slump…
"What do you want with this lab Huh? Who sent you?"
Hearing her intense questioning, I blink slightly, before tilting my head to the side a bit, putting my finger on my lip.
"Um… Hyde told me to go here… I think…?"
Hearing Hyde's name, the girl pauses for a moment, eye slightly widening before she stands up fully, putting the paper back in my hands as a slight smile comes on her face.
"Oh is that so? So you must be… Lily, Lily Fischl, right?"
Based on her reactions so far… and now this… she must be a researcher at this 'special Esper research laboratory'… and Hyde must have some sort of connection to it as well…
'Fischl…? Is that what Hyde made my last name… huh…'
Giving her a nod, the girls smile lifts slightly before she turns around and starts walking off with a slight pep in her step.
Of course, I follow her, hopping she wasn't planning on ditching me so soon…
Making her way down the street at a much faster pace than before, the girl starts to talk to me without turning around.
"Well nice to meet ya, kid, names Nemu… I'm one of the head researchers at the Special Esper Research Laboratory... Your sisters been really helpful over the last few years for our research... Everyone's pretty excited to finally be able to show the results of our research, so, we'll be counting on you!"
Talking in rapid succession as she walks briskly down the sidewalk, presumably towards this laboratory, I barely have time to focus on what she's saying before she beings something else up.
'So I was right about her being a researcher... And plus Hyde pulled some bullshit to make them think she's been helping them for year's... Plus by the sounds of it they'll be using me as their lab rat...'
'...Also sisters? Is that what she says we are...? We'll, it's not like I mind her... I really don't have any specific feelings towards her but... It's a bit strange to call her my sister...'
Nodding along with, and thinking about what Nemu says to me... Over the next fifteen minutes or so we walk through various streets of academy city, eventually arriving at our destination.
Of course, over the last fifteen minutes, she never once mentioned what I was doing here... But I think I have a pretty good idea.

Howdy, folks.
Sorry for not uploading all week but... We'll I had the week off, and like I've said before I don't like writing on non-school days.
Actually, I was writing 'this' chapter on Tuesday night, but then it ended up getting deleted and I didn't want to have to rewrite it.
Um... I thought I'd just mention this now, I'm not very smart.
What I'm trying to say is that any oc esper abilities will probably not be based on real science. Rather the abilities will be based completely around science that I made up... In my head... Yep.
Anyway, over the past week I had been... Sort of torn on what esper ability to give MC. I know I already said what I would give her but... I really didn't mean it...
Anyway, I was debating over a few powers, mainly 'Velocity control', 'Thermal Manipulation' and some other shit. Anyway, I eventually decided she'd have a type of teleportation.
I'm not sure what to call it... I'm sort of in-between 'Protoport' and 'Dysport'.
Well anyway... She'll be able to teleport, become intangible, erase matter (the hand style) and... Shoot anti matter, I guess?
(Btw, if you aren't aware... In the toaru universe, teleporters maneuver through the 11th dimension to move instantaneously.'
My excuse for this is that... 'Instead of moving through just the eleventh dimension to teleport, she can move through any dimension, including the zeroth dimension, as well as through partial dimensions and fractals.'
Welp... I'm sure to anyone actually knowledgable in science... That's probably some stupid shit right? Well that's what I came up with... And I really don't want to actually learn anything...
Well toaru espers are mainly based around pseudo science bs anyways... so I'm sure it will be fine.
