Chapter 2: Chapter 02 – The Catalyst

Year 2005 December 21st, DC Washington. 9.30 PM

Blake was staring at his fathers' back. They were in the living room. Nathan wolf was looking at the outside through the huge windows which covered most of the wall. He appeared to be in deep thought. Blake was apprehensive, he did now know how his father was going to react to the news. The only comfort he had was Wolf who was lying there beside him. His mother was out on a mission.

After what felt like an eternity, Nathan finally spoke.

"I've been to places where no other human have gone before Blake. Fought with monsters and humans who could raze villages without breaking a sweat. I've seen people die by other people and monsters. And you know what I've learned from all that? It's that the weak do not deserve a place in this world. They only drag the powerful down."

"Wake up Blake. This is reality. There's nothing for the weak in this cursed world. With time you will realize that exist for the weak in this reality are pain, suffering, and futility. Listen, Blake… As long as there's light there shall be darkness to be found as well. As long as there's a concept of power, the weak shall also exist. The desire to protect the weak is the reason there are wars."

He then turned slightly and looked at Blake.

"Let me demonstrate."

Nathan vanished into thin air in a blur and appeared beside Wolf, who got startled for a second. Blake only saw fathers' foot coming down so fast and Wolf shooting across the room like a bullet. Wolf crashed into the wall on the side and fell on the floor.

It happened so fast that Blake couldn't even protest. No words came out of him. He couldn't even cry at the moment. He numbly started to walk towards Wolf but got stopped by an iron gripped hand.

"No. you can't help. As you are weak yourself. Watch what happens to the weak. What's happening to Wolf is exactly what happens to the weak in this world. You get crushed."

Blake could only watch in tears as Wolf made a feeble attempt to stand up. Blood was pouring out of his eyes and mouth and his chest was caved in. He whined weakly and fell down.

Something lost in Blake as he watched Wolf spend his last breath in pain. He fell down on his knees and stared blankly at the only friend he had until now.

"You are to leave DC immediately Blake. I do not have the time nor compassion to look after a weak offspring. But since you are blood. I shall leave a small fund for you to survive. Spend that and you shall not receive anything from me. "

Blake was still in a daze and missed what Nathan said entirely. But somehow he registered the sound of the door closing and only then he started weakly crawling towards Wolf. Once he reached Wolf, he took Wolfs' head onto his lap and started wiping up the blood away using his sleeves.

He did not know how long he stood like that. He only came back to his senses when he felt a hand on his shoulders. It was Jake. He no longer had a kind face, twenty years in the military and he had seen such atrocities. But even he did not wish such an act toward a ten-year-old.

"I'm sorry young master. But you must get ready to leave. Master has left you with 20 million dollars in a bank account. Don't worry about Wolf. I'll give him a proper burial."

Blake stayed with Wolf for few more minutes and stood up slowly and walked away from the room. He headed towards his room. Once at the door, he stared at the space he called home for the past decade. He did not want to stay there any longer. It was too much for him. He didn't even have the desire to pack any clothes. He just wanted to leave. But he wasn't an idiot. How brutal and sick his fathers' actions might be. It held a truth. He was weak. He was just ten years old for gods' sake. He would have to use what his father gave him until he was self-sufficient. But someday, he will pay his father back with interest. For Wolf. He told himself.

He wasn't an amateur when it came to technology. He used every bit of new technology the existed for humans at the time. So when he checked for new messages on his phone he saw that the money had been wired to an account in his name.

He sat down on the bed and started weighing down his options.

That night Blake left the Wolf mansion with only a handful of clothes and never looked back.
