Chapter 9: Useless leader
Jian had made it to the routine class on time, the girl with the headband who Jian has figured out to be Lu Xin rolled her eyes at the approach of Jian, If Jian actually had a choice, she wouldn't bother joining the dance routine or any other routine but like it is being said, everyone must have a routine in order to pass the test..
"I'm here." she stood at the centre of the room, the gazes of everyone were on her making her feel ackward like the ground should just open up and swallow her whole.
They where boomboxes and recorders at the left side, Lu Xin held the remote and pressed a button.
Jian tried to ignore the stares she received and took her place waiting for the soft flow of the music to begin, she wasn't going to go all pop style dance and decided to mix it up a bit, she started off smoothly, embellishing her step, she could see most of the students looked impressed but then, the arrival of a fellow caught her off guard making her miss her steps and falling to the floor.
Yhin Zhen gazed at her but said nothing, she knew deep down he would make fun of her, Joo Seouk and Xie Lun also joined in, Yhin Zhen rested his back on the wall as he locked eyes with Jian who pouted in annoyance, the crowds hadn't notice their prescence yet since they made himself unnoticed.
"What are you doing, get up and continue!" Lu Xin scolded her, she was already finding it hard to dance in front of them but dancing in front of Yhin Zhen was something she couldn't do, someone kick him out!
"I don't have time for this!"
"Can't you just rate me over the little moves you just saw?" she asked innocently but Lu Xin sighed in annoyance.
"I already told you, dancing isn't for you, I told you no earlier but decided to give you one more chance but you still failed."
Jian gaped at her, she failed again?!, but she can't fail, her earlier performance was great and she could tell from most of their faces that she did well seeing how they watched her dance with an interesting gaze.
Now that she thought about it, is Lu Xin actually kicking her out cause of the dance or something else cause everyone seems to have issues with her this days.
"Okay, just give me one more chance, I'll do my best now."
"I said no!" she was almost yelling leaving Jian startled, she blinked at her, why's she so upset?
"You don't belong here, you don't see any middle class around here do you, we are all from wealthy homes and you're just lucky to have gotten in through scholarship, you're not up to our class so it's best you leave."
Jian felt like someone just pushed the red button in her head making her shut down, so it really wasn't about her dance, all this was about status.
She gazed at everyone and some of them didn't look happy with Lu Xin's decision while some were darting evil glares at her, nodding to Lu Xin's words.
She sighed in defeat, it's clear no matter how hard she tried, they won't accept her so it'll be best if she leaves, and probably end up failing the test, nothing worse can happen after that right?
She turned to leave, Lu Xin smiled in victory and turned to look at the team.
"Alright, let's get started"
Jian was about to walk out but Yhin Zhen strode past her, grabbing hold of her hand and bringing her back, she stumbled backward a bit and turned to look at Yhin Zhen who still held her hand, taking her back to the centre of the room, Lu Xin's smile slowly faded seeing Yhin Zhen had brought the girl back and worst part, he was even holding her hand.
"Idol Zhen, what are you doing?!" she asked but just one look from him was enough to keep her quiet.
Jian on the other hand was still confused, she freed her hand from his hold.
"Why did you bring me back here?" she asked but he pulled her close making her gasp in awe, her eyes widened at his unexpected action even the students tensed up at the sight, looking bewildered. Xie Lun nudged Joo Seouk by the elbow making him avert his gaze from the phone.
"What is it?"
"I'm suspicious of brother Zhen, I mean look at him." he sounded aghast Joo Seouk had to raise his head up to Know what brother Xie Lun was talking about, a coyed smile formed on his lips.
"In a way, I saw it coming."
Xie Lun rolled his eyes and ignored Joo Seouk, keeping his gaze on what was happening right now.
Jian hastily pulled herself away but he held her hand and pulled her close again.
"Just follow my lead." he said and she wondered what he meant by that, not untill he guided her to the dance floor, Jian still didn't understand what he planned on doing untill he pulled her close again, his hand around her back and placing one of her tender hands on his shoulder.
Her eyes widened and she immediately understood, does he planning on dancing with her?!
"BANG!"
The bell rang once more in her head and she clearly wasn't ready to dance with him, she pulled away but he grabbed her hand and twirled her swiftly making her place her hands on his chest once she stopped.
She gazed wide eyed at her hands and slowly tilted her head up to meet his gaze but they remained the same, distant and cold.
She didn't even realize when the music had started and all this while she was trying to escape from his clutches, he was only making her movement follow to the music, he seemed to know each step to carry with, every angle seemed to be planned in advance and surprisingly, Jian didn't find it hard to follow since she could sense his next movement before following his lead, it didn't feel....forced.
They turned it to a choreographical step and Jian followed his lead, the students who watched began to crack a smile, clearly enjoying it, the pretenders couldn't hide it since Yhin Zhen was the one dancing.
"Wow, they're both really good!"
"I'm videoing this."
"She definitely needs to join the routine!"
"I love their dance steps, Idol Zhen is the best!"
And more good comments came by as students who passed by caught sight of Idol Zhen dancing with the new girl, Jian had no idea Yhin Zhen was part of the dance routine, she actually thought he came here to make her fail but he's helping her out once again.
She smiled and followed Yhin Zhen's step, he let out his hand for her which she held, twirling into his embrace and gazing into his eyes, for a split second, she thought she saw a glint but ignored it.
Lu Xin was the most annoyed and Jian would be lying if she said she wasn't enjoying it, talk more of class, she might be from a lower status but she got a chance to dance with the all Star idol Yhin Zhen, if she didn't hate him right now, she would have bowed her head to him and praise him.
When the music finally stopped, an abrupt cheers and claps resounded in the room, Yhin Zhen strode over to Lu Xin who clenched her fist behind her.
"This is a dance routine, not a status ranking, you've seen how good she is but I guess you were mentally challenged to not realize it so I'll take it from here."
His words seemed to affect Lu Xin as she gazed at him confusingly.
"w...what do you mean?"
He gazed at her brittly. "What I mean is I and Xie Lun will lead this dance routine, a leader whose more worried about status than actually achieving the main goal is a useless leader."
Jian couldn't believe it, Lu Xin stood there like a statue, unable to freight back, the students looked excited after Yhin Zhen declared he'd be their leader for the dance routine, Jian smiled as she watched Yhin Zhen Walk out, she waved at Joo Seouk and Xie Lun who flashed her a friendly smile before leaving as well.
He helped her out but didn't say a word to her and just left, he should at least let her thank him for the help, he's making her look ungrateful but she was sure if she goes to him, he would say hurtful words to her so it's best if she stays like this, away from his own criticism but deep down, she's grateful.
Yhin Zhen strode ahead with a hand in his pocket, he couldn't stop thinking about the dance and the way she stared at him, it annoyed him his mind chose to be clouded with things like that, he helped her, but why does he feel good about it, he can't stand her and the same time, doesn't like to see anyone mess with her, when Lu Xin spoke so rudely to her, he could see the impact it caused on her making him clench his fist, so he did what he wanted even without her asking.
Someone get the annoying clumsy girl out of his head!
