Chapter 125: A forgetten history part 2

The dimension was silent except for the wails of the doom walkers. Their despair filled cries echoed through the vast expanse of war-torn lands. Their cries soon turned to ones of hate and anger.

The youngest brother who was almost a cripple at this point wasn't paid attention to. His older brother sent him away to avoid more harassment as he dealt with the masses. The species was destined to perish. Their creator had chucked them away like cheap trash.

A month later, while the doom walkers were holding yet another useless meeting to discuss how they would make a comeback, the oldest brother received the legacy. It boosted his power to horrendous levels. He became a ruler in a split second.

There was now hope, that he could break out of their prison that was once their last safe place. But fate had other plans. The force of his collisions against the dimension barrier only served to worsen the already decaying dimension. His attacks filled with ghostly energy spread in all directions seeping into the fabric of the land itself. Staining it with the power.

The older brother continued to smash into the barrier in hopes of breaking it and freeing his people. To take revenge and dethrone that false god. But reality shattered their hopes. The barrier held strong and unyielding.

But something that nobody expected happened. Under the clashes filled with ghost energy, the world began to remodel itself. It turned into the wasteland that it was today. But in return, it provided a massive increase to the life expectancy of the ghost species. This brought hope, hope that when their sentence was completed, they could send out their champion to the outside world and set them free.

The youngest brother was put on ice at the orders of his older brother. In order to preserve the youth he held. The spirited and joyful existence he became after losing his memories. He was no longer the savage bloodthirsty doom walker. But a child with no knowledge of anything.

The older brother wanted to preserve that so his brother wouldn't be corrupted by the twisted and depressed mindset and atmosphere that plagued their people. It was so that his brother would be alive when he came back and freed his people.

Like that, 992 years went by in the same monotonous space. one by one, the doom walkers chose suicide over living this constant torture. With nothing to do. They initially held strong, creating the ghost city, that would become the capital for their eventual uprising.

But all of their excitement and determination vanished with the unending years. The oldest brother sat upon his golden throne with a dejected look as he gazed up at the black sky.

'Is this what his actual punishment for us is? To kill ourselves off?' he questioned. But it only served to fuel his hatred. He vowed to himself every day that he would not waver, that no matter what happened, he would get out when the sentence was completed. He would push himself to stay on track when he thought of ending it all. That he would show his brother a new sight. One far different to this wasteland.

And the day eventually came. Exactly 1000 years after their downfall. The oldest brother walked towards the barrier full of determination, rage and hope. But as he went up to it, intending to walk out, he was once again stopped.

And a piece of information floated up.

[as the holder of the legacy, you are not allowed to leave the prison. You are destined to die here.] said the voice of Arceus. It sounded like a recording of sorts.

The oldest brother stood there motionless as he finally broke down. Shattered and desolate. His tears wet the sand as his heart-wrenching screams echoed in the now empty lands. None of his brethren, none of his family had survived. They all chose to escape from their reality. Death was the only solution for them.

He had been holding strong, all this time, to escape this prison. But Arceus decided to play with him one last time. To give him false hope. All for this moment, for him to experience the most pain imaginable. 1000 long years of suffering for nothing.

But the image of his younger brother flashed through his mind.

{that's right! If I cannot leave, then he will. He will live for me. He will experience everything I wanted him to. I only wish I was with him. But alas, that is no longer important.} he said to himself as a warm smile appeared on his face.

With a wave of his hand, the void was torn open and a frozen Marshadow came out. his younger brother.

{I hope you can someday return here little brother. But at the same time, I also wish to never see you again. For your safety trumps all else. Live, enjoy and remember me fondly. That… is all I wish for. To live in your memories. Farewell… little brother.} He said as a tear streamed down his face as he pushed the unfrozen but unconscious little body through the barrier. Instantly vanishing from sight.

But what the older brother didn't know was that when Marshadow was pushed through the barrier, hundreds of years passed before he arrived. 300 to be exact. The last safety measure left by Arceus. In order to kill the last remaining doom walker off. Thinking that 300 years was enough to kill a normal doom walker. Arceus could never have guessed that the clash between the older brother and the barrier would increase their lifespan several fold.

And it was due to some fate, that the older brother had thought of freezing his younger brother. And that was what saved him.

Marshadow awoke on an island, the same one he would spend the next two years on before meeting Rex. He didn't understand why the barrier was allowing everyone to go in and out. since it was this domain that allowed him to get to Rex. but he guessed that once the last doom walker was 'killed' that the space would cease to have meaning. So, it probably reset automatically to serve its original intended purpose. But due to the ghostly energy corrupting the space, all other Pokémon were pushed out. But there must have a protocol in place to stop the legacy holder from leaving even when the world reset. so only he was allowed to leave freely.
