"A peculiar little fellow, isn't he?" Alex asked aloud, causing the few people in the room to finally turn his way.

"You're right. It seems this young man has found a new evolutionary route for Scizor," a woman beside him answered in a light fairy-like voice. Her bright pink hair seemed to glow in contrast to her leather jacket.

"Come on, Trix, I don't care about that, and you know it. I was talking about the Infernape. It seems it was holding back something… something much more powerful…" Alex continued, his tone revealing hints of uncertainty.

"Oh? It's odd for you to sound so unsure. But it's true, that monkey was definitely more interesting than that bug with a rocket strapped to its back. Harry was his name, right? He was from that tribe… since he's here, there must have been something that attracted him enough to break the rules of that old coot." Trix said, casually using her hand to stir the whiskey in her teacup.

"Must you do that?" he asked, beginning to frown.

"What?" she responded, looking at him innocently. He stared back at her before sighing, "never mind, what's the point of arguing." He mumbled, clicking his tongue by the end.

Trix dropped her seemingly naïve and sweet smile, "you take the fun out of everything. Can't you at least pretend to act human?" she pouted.

Alex turned to her, gave her a once-over, and sighed again, "far too tiring. By human, do you mean loud, obnoxious, inefficient beings? Yeah, I would much like to avoid that. Efficiency is key; anything that doesn't require attention should be ignored."

"Then why do you insist on entertaining me?" she inquired, half insulted, half joking.

Alex laughed, causing a surprised gasp to leave Trix's mouth, "because, as much as you are inefficient, you are helpful. Behind every seemingly meaningless comment lies helpful information. But isn't the whole point of this conversation for me to say those exact words?" Alex asked, continuing to look out towards the stadium grounds.

Trix's short lived triumphant smile slowly faded into a neutral pout, "again, you had to ruin it. Keep your observations to yourself; isn't that why I'm here?" she asked angrily.

"No~ you are here because you are my girl- yes, that's why you're here because you are nothing more than an analyst." He mended just in time.

Trix's once again growing smile instantly dimmed. Alex smiled, "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me…" he responded, wagging his finger at her.

"Humph! Whatever, that monkey and its trainer, too bad they fell short here. Maybe they could have easily won this match if they went all out." She exclaimed.

"Sadly, you are incorrect," he said, his eyes squinting slightly as they briefly lost their light before returning. Trix had seen this many times before, 'perfect recollection,' she called it. He would enter his own 'mind' and analyse, observe and make conclusions about the battle dozens of times before returning in what seemed to be only several seconds. Sadly, he couldn't do this in battle because it was too taxing.

"What did you discover? You know how much I hate when you discredit my observations…" she warned.

Alex waved her off, "Rex would have never lost…" he started. Trix waved her hand in circles motioning him to go on. "He had aura around him, powerful, incredibly powerful. Much more powerful than that Harry kid. I assume he must have a much more powerful Pokémon, a fighting type. Yes… it seems that Rex was hiding a larger secret than we thought."

"You mean, besides being Red Rose, you're saying he actually has substance? He's not just a show pony for the league?" Trix asked in slight surprise.

"That's correct. Have you heard about a recent deal between the league and a newly founded company?" Alex suddenly questioned.

Trix frowned, halting her rotating hand holding the cup of whiskey, "I did get some information, my source did say that the league was furious by the end of it. they told me that the league got completely screwed over by some Re… Oh~, I assume that's the same guy?" she asked in realisation.

"You're taking this pretty well considering your temper…" he suddenly paused as he noticed her lips twitch, "Ahem! That is correct. He is the same one. Also, the same one, with a Machamp, and a mighty one at that. A blue Arcanine, a weird Victreebel, a Gyarados, a Steelix and a mysterious ghost Pokémon which I presume to be a Marshadow. Most, if not all, are different to their own species, with some having more noticeable changes. I do not know what caused said changes, but I am sure this Rex is hiding vast knowledge."

"Why don't we interrogate him…" she said, raising and lowering her eyebrows insinuatingly.

Alex frowned, "I do not consent to such barbaric actions, you know that. I hate unnecessary violence. There is a much more efficient way to do this, two birds, one stone. I'll wager a bet with him over our battle. The winner makes the request. I think he will agree to it."

"You're so booooooring! What are you going to ask him about? The secret to his Pokémon evolutions?" she asked sarcastically, "you know he will not agree to that."

"No, nothing like that. Rex is a basic personality, rather pathetic in perspective, cocky and arrogant. I have watched all his battles, and although he has reined it in rather well recently, he is still far too childish. No, the person behind him is who I'm interested in. I believe it's 'Gaia'? Right. Oh, now that is an intelligent person." He said, his mind beginning to go in a different direction as, for the first time, he showed a broad smile.

"efficient, effective and exceptionally intelligent… ooooh!"

"You aren't thinking of cheating on me, are you?"

Bam!

"Your such a child! How many times have I said-"

Trix didn't even perceive the hit on the forehead she had just received. She was too busy jumping triumphantly at his explosion of anger.

"Point for me! Point for me! 2-1 in my favour hahaha! Seems we are to be wed soon, dear!" she teased, attempting to snuggle her head on his chest.

She could see the veins on his entire body squirming like snakes as he attempted to restrain his emotions.

"YOU..."

"Yes~~ honey, what is it?" she asked mischievously.

"I have nothing else to say. Let's get a move on; I have my battle shortly. It's already taken too long to fix what those two infants caused.
