Chapter 6: Love at First Sight?
Adrian chatted with a few other businessmen and celebrities at the party, discussing the current trends, while others coaxed him for an official meeting. While others made no attempt at hiding they looked down or were jealous that he had this much power at a young age. But Adrian paid no heed to these prideful pigs.
After a few sounds, he came to a side with his drink and looked towards the moonlit garden from the balcony.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" He heard a voice behind him.
Adrian was startled that someone approached him without alerting his senses but remained cool and replied, "Indeed. The garden has a certain charm in the moonlight." He agreed.
He then turned to see the origin of the beautiful voice and was stunned. In front of him was a woman who he could only describe as the angel of his dreams. Her black hair flowed down like a beautiful stream. Her face was the perfect definition of beauty and her black eyes had a shine of their own. coupled with her beautiful black dress, Adrian couldn't help but be captivated.
The woman smiled seeing him like this and chuckled, which snapped him out of his stupor. But Adrian was still partially in shock and the feeling didn't disappear.
"Are you alright, Mr. Kent?" She asked with an amused expression.
Adrian was finally able to think somewhat straight and answered back. "Yes. What can I say? You, my lady, are so beautiful, I couldn't help but be captivated."
"Surely you jest. Or maybe the drink is getting to you," She dismissed his praise.
"Are you sure it's not your charm that's intoxicating?" Adrian said, making her smile widen.
"Quite the smooth talker aren't you," She replied back.
"And I don't feel any remorse in saying the truth," Adrian replied back, and extended his hand, "Adrian Kent, a pleasure to meet you, Miss?"
"The pleasure is mine, Mr. Kent, I believe there is no one in the ball that doesn't know you." She replied, and Adrian found a card in the hand he just shook her. "I believe Mr. Luthor is coming to talk with you, so I shall take my leave," Adrian was surprised hearing this and turned back to see that Luthor was indeed coming towards him. He then turned back to find the lady just... disappeared. In fact, for all the time she was here, Adrian never sensed her once.
He looked down on the card to see the card belonged to an Artifact curator, but he realized just who he was talking to by reading the name below it. "Diana Prince?" He exclaimed in shock. 'Holy shit, I just met Wonder Woman and never realized it.' He thought back, but couldn't understand how she kept her presence hidden all the time. Was she always this vigilant? No, that's a Batman thing. Then why?
'Wait... it couldn't be... right?' Adrian thought of a reason, but shook his head, deciding to think about it later, as Luthor came close.
"Was the party too boring?" Lex asked jokingly.
"Nah, just staying in a place far too long makes me uncomfortable. I much prefer the scenery here than the lights inside." Adrian said, pointing towards the garden.
"Indeed, it is a pleasing sight, " Luthor nodded in agreement, "Unfortunately, the main show is about to start."
"Well, lead the way," Adrian said with a smile and followed Luthor. He turned back to take one last look at where Diana stood and continued ahead.
*Later*
Adrian blankly stared at his food while remembering back his meeting with Diana, and he couldn't get her out of his head. Every time he tries to do something, he gets distracted. If it wasn't for his enhanced senses, he would have crashed his car while driving back. In fact, he almost did once but Aegis had control of his car as well and managed to save it.
"Adri the food's getting cold." Adrian heard a voice and snapped out of his trance.
"Did something happen?" Adrian looked at his mother who asked, concerned. Clark and his father were also staring at him in concern.
"I'm fine, just thinking about something," Adrian said, trying to dismiss their worries, but Martha didn't completely believe it.
"It's nothing serious mother, master Adrian is just experiencing his first crush," Aegis cheekily said from Adrian's smartwatch.
"""What?""", Martha, Clark, and Jonathan shouted hearing this.
"What? Shut up Aegis! It's not like that!" Adrian too shouted in a hurry. If not for his non-human physique, he would have choked on his food.
Martha's eyes shone in interest as she leaned in and asked, " Oh, who is she? Is she beautiful?"
"Mom, it's not like that, seriously, ... though she is beautiful,... but IT'S NOT LIKE THAT" Adrian said, digging a hole for himself.
Clark and Jonathan watch his interrogation with amused smiles while Adrian tried to dismiss his mother's questions, but there was no end to them.
*Next Day*
"Huh, finally done," Adrian said, signing the last of the documents." I can now pay attention to other products." He said and opened a holographic screen showing his routine for today.
"I would recommend you pay attention to the new seeds produced for farming rice and wheat, this was supposed to be finished last night," Aegis said, showing the details of newly spliced seeds compared to the base ones.
"Oh, and who's responsible for babbling inconsiderately and preventing me from working last night?" Adrian asked, while his brows twitched in irritation, but Aegis just displayed a whistling emoji on the screen, dismissing him.
He gave a helpless sigh at her antics and focused again on his work. As much as Adrian likes to leave things for his research department, his inability to sit still makes him do everything by himself. He completed some parts of it when Aegis showed an alert on his screen,
"Sir, you should see this," Aegis said.
Adrian dropped his work and looked at the screen showing a live broadcast of an airplane. But the strange thing was the plane was floating, slowly going towards the airport.
"... And as you can see, the airplane which lost balance is currently being lifted by someone. That's right folks, your eyes are not deceiving you. He is lifting the airplane while flying and is now taking it towards the airport. This is reporting live from Metropolis..." The news anchor kept talking in disbelief, as the camera zoomed towards the bottom of the airplane showing a man with a blue suit and red cape with a big 'S' symbol on his chest, holding it and flying towards the runway.
Then he finally reached the runway and softly helped it land on the landing gears which were still working. Then he floated and gave a wave towards the passengers in the plane and flew away.
Adrian smiled seeing the whole thing. Clark made his first appearance and made it impactful. After all, first impressions solidify your image. "Not bad, forward it to mom and dad," Adrian said seeing it.
"Already did, they watched it live as well," Aegis informed him, and he nodded in affirmation.
"Keep tabs on the US govt. I want all details related to secret organizations like Argus or Cadmus with me whenever they appear. Don't interfere too much, but if they do stuff like illegal experiments on kidnapped people or metahumans who aren't criminals, inform me at once. Also, scan the systems for any AI's as well," Adrian told Aegis a few instructions.
"Roger that," Aegis replied and started monitoring nanobots and assigning them to different personnel.
"Hmm, I need the DNA of some troublesome ones as well," Adrian mused while watching the card Diana had given him. Clark just showed the world his power, and humans are greedy creatures by nature. They fear what they don't know unless they are in full control of it, and while Batman just created a ripple in Gotham, Superman created one all over the world.
'All things considered, the only things that could interfere with what I know is the fact that the world is an Alternate Universe, with some main heroes having a completely different life or new threats popping up. Need to make sure of that.' Adrian mused, planning ahead, as the era of Superheroes and Supervillains is about to begin!
