Chapter 2: Chapter 2- The way out?
I woke up from my crying session. My head feels light, but I have come to realize that my dad is gone. There isn't anything I can do to fix that. My head hurts, it hurts so bad I could pound it against a solid wall of metal.
"Feeling any better?" Asks a familiar voice. It's the doctor who has been taking care of me ever since I woke up.
"Yeah…" I said with a sigh
"That's good to hear." says the doctor.
"Why haven't I heard any noise from any other rooms?" I ask.
"Well…" There was a long pause. "There's something I still haven't told you."
"What is it?" I ask. It's not like anything can surprise me at this point, my mind had already taken its toll. You know, with my dad and everything.
"There was a deadly disease." He states, "Only around one fifth of the population is still here, anyone who has been working is now rioting and taking things. Nobody is working their jobs."
"What the fuck?" I proclaim. "That couldn't be possible, how would the hospital run on power? Working water? All of that is gone?"
"We have been running on backup generators for the past two years." He states, "There were still people running the electricity for around a year. But that's when the virus mutated. The only people left are the people that have immunity to the virus."
"So you and I have immunity?" I ask.
"That's correct." He says, "There was also a chemical released into the air around the time the virus had spread, around a third of the population had inhaled the chemical."
"Then how come only one fifth of the population is left?" I ask.
"Murder." he states.
"What?" I ask
"When the virus took most of the population, people working in the store had rioted and stopped working. Everyone had to scavenge for food, water, shelter, nobody was safe. Even in their own homes."
"That's terrible!" I state, "Why would people do that?"
"Why wouldn't they?" The doctor says, "If nobody is keeping the economy up, why would the government, police officers, military personnel, or anyone of high power need to keep their job, if there is no society to keep safe?"
"Well shit."
"That's not all, China, Japan, and Russia are the only countries that have an economy." States the doctor.
"Why?" I ask curiously.
"They were the only countries that had little to no virus deaths." Says the doctor.
"Then why isn't everyone moving there?" I ask.
"They won't let anybody in." Says the doctor.
"Why not?" I ask.
"Well, they let one guy in." Says the doctor, "But he killed thirteen people, and injured sixty-two."
"Seriously?" I ask
'Yep." says the doctor. "The only people they will let in are the people who are important officials with the Russian, Chinese, or Japanese government."
"Damn, so all hope is lost if you want in, huh?" I ask
"Not exactly..."
