Chapter 5: The Art Of Combat
I was in Herrah's room I was thinking about the past and my potential future. In my past life, I was basically a background character but even worse I was ignored by mostly everyone so that left me by myself I don't know why I was so ignored in my past life.
After finishing college I worked as a book written my book was decent and it gave me enough money to pay rent so I was happy. I lacked romantic partners because I liked living alone and I never found anyone interesting.
My family was nice they didn't talk to me that much but the interactions that we did have made me happy... Well, asides from that my life was truly bland I yearned for more in life I wanted excitement.
Well, I got what I wished for. I stood up and left the room I looked at Herrah playing with some threads I then thought 'I never really looked around I got to remember to do that.'
The room I was in was very spacious the walls were covered in soft but durable webs. There was barely any light in the room other than the small glowing flies that flew around in the air. In the back of the room, there were three carvings of Herrahs masks they were covered in webs
There was a stone table and two chairs Herrah was currently using one. Other than that the room was bland but still it was an amazing sight to see. I see Herrah stop using the threads and get up she then said.
Herrah: "Well let's begin shall we?"
I then walked up to a chair and sat down. The rocky chair hurt my behind so I just sat on the floor instead. I then focused on Herrah giving her all of my attention.
Herrah: "Hmm I suppose Soul would be the best topic to talk about first."
Herrah: "Soul is the force that animates our bodies when we die our soul leaves our bodies and will usually stay in the air. Clans like the Snail Shamans have learned to harness Soul in order to create powerful abilities called spells."
Herrah: "I will show you an example of a spell. This spell is called Focus."
Herrah then took out her long nail and cut her finger she then crouched and a white aura appeared her wound slowly healed. I looked at it with amazement when she finished she smiled proudly.
Herrah: "Now that I showed you a spell I can start to teach you about combat."
Herrah: "First I will show you how to wield a nail."
Herrah grabbed a small silver nail that was on the table. She handed me the nail I held the nail in my hand and looked at Herrah.
Herrah: "Now the way how you're holding the nail is incorrect. If you were to hit someone while holding the nail like that you could possibly break your arm."
Herrah grabbed the nail and moved it around. She then made me hold the nail Herrah then took out her nail and said.
Herrah: "You must gain experience with your blade and for that to happen you need an opponent. I will be that opponent don't worry I will hold back."
Excursion: "Alright let's do this!"
I ran towards Herrah and sliced at her she jumped over my blade elegantly and kicked me in my face. She sent me sliding across the floor I then stood back up and readied my nail I then stood in shock at the sight in front of me.
Herrah was seemingly flying in the air she quickly but elegantly moved towards me. 'Is she even holding back!?' I thought as I dodged one of her nails. I then began to run around she quickly trailed behind me I looked at her and then saw something beneath her feet.
'Is that a string?' I thought as I looked at the small string underneath her feet. I then realized what was happening and was even more impressed with Herrah's skills 'She is using her strings as platforms what can I do to combat that?' I then came up with a plan.
I then stood still and waited for Herrah.
Herrah: "Why aren't you doing anything?"
I watched as Herrah got near she then lounged at me I was quick to react. I slid underneath her and brought my nail upwards.
I then got on my knees and started to pant. Herrah held the blade in her hands and said.
Herrah: "Nice plan my child however I could see what you planned to do from miles away. Though I do have to admit that you surprised me when you learned about the strings."
Excursion: "Where did the strings even come from?"
Herrah: "I was making them throughout the battle."
Excursion: "*Phew* That is enough running for today."
Herrah: "Hahahaha you will be doing a lot of running."
Excursion: "Oh no."
Herrah: "Well I suppose that we can take a break for a bit."
Excursion: "No let's continue."
Herrah: "Alright prepare yourself."
Herrah then took out her nail and began to run to me. I decided to face her instead of running away. She threw her nail I moved to the side dodging the nail. I then sliced at Herrah she then dodged the nail and tried to kick me.
I ducked dogding the kick 'I dogded it I fucking dogded it!' I thought but then was kicked in the stomach by another kick.
Herrah: "Don't get distracted!"
I then landed on the floor and say Herrah's leg coming down I rolled away and stood up and saw Herrah attack. I moved backward and attacked Herrah she actually got hit by the attack and some blood poured out of her wound.
Herrah: "Good, good you are improving alright we can stop training for today."
Herrah: "Well tomorrow I will teach you some moves."
Herrah said while she used Focus to heal her wounds I dropped the nail and said.
Excursion: "Are you alright?"
Herrah: "Hehe a small injury like this has nothing on your mom!"
I then thought 'I wonder what the rest of Hollownest is like.'
