Chapter 8: Chopping the vegetables

Kaji was done with his preparations, he was wondering how will this turn out, he had many thoughts going through his mind. After some time, he walked around the village in hopes of thinking of something that could help him, in the event that was to happen. But instead of thinking of something useful, he bumped into Ram and Rem.

"Kaji!" The two said while running up to him.

"Oh, hey Ram, Rem!" Kaji said while turning in their direction.

"What's wrong, you seem to be just walking around the village, with this strange look on your face?' Rem asked him while showing a worried expression.

"Is something bothering you?" Ram asked, showing the same expression as her sister.

"Well, I just have a bad feeling, like something bad will happen." Kaji said.

"A bad feeling? Then why don't you come to our house? Maybe you would feel better?!" Rem said while looking at him with her big round eyes.

"That's a good idea Rem, Ram agrees!" Ram said with a huge smile on her face.

Kaji couldn't take the cuteness as he made a grabbing motion where his heart was, the two girls looked really cute for some reason. After calming down he looked at them again and was shocked, to say the least, seeing them look at him with their big round eyes full of expectations.

"Alright, but I will ask my parents to come too." Kaji said while showing a helpless expression.

"That's fine!" Rem said with visible excitement.

"Umu" Ram nodded her head while crossing her arms under her chest.

"Alright, then I will see you there! Kaji said as he walked towards his house while waving to the twins.

While walking back, Kaji was thinking that Rem was better now than in the original, after all, in the original she always felt inferior to her sister. But now because of Kaji spending time with her, and showing her how good she was at other things like cooking. He showed her how Ram had no talent for such things, and this made her see her sister like another person and not just someone she couldn't understand. And He could blame the villagers for that, after all, they all would praise Ram constantly while Rem was always overlooked by them.

But that was to be expected, the oni always valued strength and ability over anything else. And for them it was normal, but in the end, it would only bring hardship for Rem in the future so Kaji did all he could to show her that there was no reason to be jealous. But the most important change was most likely when he told her that she would be a better mom than her sister. For some reason, after that day

Rem became more confident in herself, but in the end, the sisters were inseparable, they became closer than ever.

But now instead of the two of them worrying about each other's feelings, like in the original. They became more open with each other, and would talk to each other whenever they felt uncomfortable or wrong. Of course, there were times they couldn't talk to each other for some reason, that they didn't tell him why. But then they would start talking to Kaji, asking him questions about what they should do, and so on.

But before he knew it Kaji reached his house, opened the door, and entered. He looked for his parents, and found them in the kitchen. Kurai was chopping the vegetables while Hanami was cooking some steaks.

"Mom. Dad!" Kaji raised his voice a bit so the two of them heard him.

"Yeah? His dad looked at him.

"What's wrong sweety?" His mom continued to cook while asking.

"Ram and Rem invited me to their house, and I think all of us could go there!" He said to them,

"Then what are we waiting for, let's goooo!" Kurai shouted while thinking that he could escape, chopping the vegetables.

"Sure we can all go, but Ku-chan you should finish chopping the vegetables first." Hanami said while smiling towards her husband.

'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!' Kurai shouted in his mind.

Kaji could see his father's face, just shook his head and went to his room so he could prepare his weapons just in case. After he was ready his father was still chopping the vegetables, but his mother on the other hand looked at him and showed a puzzled expression.

"Kaji, why do you still have your sword on your hip? Leave it at home, you're not going hunting or training right now." She said while looking at him.

"I'm sorry mother but that's not possible." He said calmly.

"What do you mean not possible?" Hanami asked him.

"You see mother, a true swordsman always has his sword with him, a true swordsman must become one with the blade! And to do that one must keep the blade close to oneself!" Kaji started saying things he remembered from reading in novels about swordsmen.
