Chapter 55: 2.18 Preparations

"How fortunate of me, thanks for your presence sir." Shaun seemed pretty happy.

"Hmm I see you managed to transform your new room into a library, no wonder you needed this big room. I appreciate your hardwork. Does your head hurt?" Major Sayak pulled a nearby chair and sat.

"Not anymore, the excercises do wonders. Only in the practice, I can feel it." Shaun said closing the book.

"Good, now to the main topic. Tomorrow is the captain's funeral. You and I have to attend it." Sayak said pulling out an invitation card.

"Certainly sir, but did you really came to see me just for this news? I don't think a man of your position would come to see me just for this news." Shaun said with doubt in his voice.

"Haha, certainly you are a sharp one. Yes I have something to say. After the funeral, there would be a meeting of the council, everyone including us, who were related to the bombing issue and competition are summoned."

"So are we accused of something? I hope not...will the council pass judgement upon us?" Shaun was worried a little.

"Actually... it's impossible to say. All we know is we will be questioned by the council of commanders. As you know, they have control over everything on Mars. So if they do, there is little we can do." Sayak smiled vaguely.

"So I guess you came to advice me about tomorrow's questioning. Please explain the plan." Shaun was serious.

"Plan is simple. Be honest. Ne total transparent." Sayak said with a straight face, looking straight at Shaun.

This confused Shaun to his core. "I-i don't understand...is this martian humour? I don't think I have done anything wrong, but isn't playing idiot best way to get out of things?"

"Yes my son, most things. You are in a tough field, where you need to use your brain to your full capacity but have to stop in one place, the council." Sayak was dead serious as he pulled out a book from his small bag.

He continued, "The commanders in the council holds the utmost wheel of Mars, not because they are in the council. They are in the council because of their power. Their magical, scientific, analytical, deduction skills are unmatched. Because of this, their planning is perfect. Once your one lie is caught, you may even crave death. The outcome can be brutal."

"But we are safe right, we work under one of the commander so he can protect us easily, can't he?" Shaun was still puzzled.

"All commanders are human, that's the only thing we know apparently. Even I'm not sure if our commander is a 'he'. And forget protection. The council isn't your average court. The council works as one entity, they have total total coordination in time of needs. You can't find your way by lying against 10 most powerful persons working together without any personal motive. Take this book, it's about the council. This is a classified book that isn't present in any library. Don't make it public or... you'll know what will happen in the book."

"Huh, I'm deeper into this matter than I imagined. I feel this is just the start." Shaun smiled lightly at Sayak.

"That's the spirit, don't let us down." Major Sayak waved him goodbye as he left.

"*Well...looks like I can't take things lightly.*" Shaun thought to himself.

"#Do you believe the council is that selfless and that powerful?#" The voice inside Shaun said.

"Oh it's you, so I was not hallucinating that night...well I don't know, maybe the book can give some answers." Shaun muttered.

"#You... don't really trust me right?#"

"Why you think so..."

"#Oh I don't know...MAYBE BECAUSE I'M LITERALLY YOU?#"

"Ah, maybe. But I still have my doubts. If you are me, and you have access to every part of my brain, why are you asking me things? And why do you even have a personality?" Shaun showed genuine concern.

"#It's not everything, I only have access of information. I can't read your thoughts...at least not fully. I work in the passive part of your brain to help you. That's everything I -.#"

"Hmm you can only talk with me when in dire need...or maybe when I'm tensed... another thing to research." Shaun murmured as the voice inside head suddenly stopped. And he sunk into the new book that was just given to him.

*Ting* Suddenly Shaun's watched made a sound. A message was seen on it. "Mr. Shaun, the council summons you to a meet up. Please refer to your higher ups for further information. Note: Being absent is not an option. From The Council...

"Ah...meet up. Well at least I'll meet them once again. Shaun continued reading the book.

    [BACK TO SAT'S INSTITUTION]

"So, even you need backup system?" Archie grinned at Sat. "Isn't your plan always perfect?"

"You guys are my plan." Sat answered quickly.

"Besides, Sarthak is here. I don't think we will need to do anything right sir?" Connor said calmly.

"...right." Sat murmured as he worked on a computer.

"So you said backup just to make me excited...you know you are not a very good person..." Archie was disappointed.

"You know what, soon we'll go on an adventure. I gotta teach you a lesson that why I hate bad things." Sat smiled a little.

"FINALLY! We're going somewhere." Archie's excitement came back.

"So, when is commander coming?" Connor asked.

"He'll come soon enough, the list of orders is coming to an end. And I don't want to make decisions...here you go, you two and girls will be in charge of this control room. Alvarez will be outside, Sarthak will be online. Your duty is 24/7. Toilet is there, food and water will be provided by Alvarez. And at least 3 person must be on watch at any given moment." Sat explained.

"So in a nutshell, only 1 person at toilet at a time." Archie tried to simplify things.

"Not only that, more than one person can't sleep at the same time. Don't forget your duty is 24/7 and won't stop unless I return." Sat said calmly.

"So..." Connor expected something.

"If emergency occurs and backup fails, trust your judgement. I believe I have taught you enough." Sat stood up and placed his two hands on Archie's and Connor's shoulder. "The girls and Alvarez will reach in a few minutes. Bye." Sat left the room.

"Remind me why we signed up for this duty Connor." Archie sat on the glistening floor.

"We didn't, but I remember you didn't complain since we can skip classes." Connor reached the corner and brought a sack.

"And you came for snacks?" Archie grinned.

"That's one reason, and I wanted to see how an official job here will be. Here or any high position office job in Mars. Archie pulled out a wafer bar and smiled.
