Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Arabelle walked out of her carriage and looked up at the beautiful mansion in front of her. The Northern Duke's Mansion in the Capital was beautiful, with large arches and beautiful towers. The garden was grand with tall dark trees and blooming with white flowers. Lilies maybe. They were quite the contrast. All in all, elegant still.

Arabelle was ushered in by the butler and the maids. Her father lead in front as she followed good naturedly behind. Soon, she sat in a beautiful room and was being served tea and snacks. In front of her was the Duke and Duchess and to her right was her father.

"My, Arabelle is such a beautiful child," the Duchess flattered," Our Victor is quite the cold one, I hope she doesn't get discouraged when they meet," she said giving a smile to her father.

"You jest," my father replied leisurely," Everyone is filled with praise for young Victor, it's our pleasure."

Arabelle smiled and nodded to their conversation pretending as if they didn't just treat her like air.

"Talking about Victor," the Duke intervened," He'll be here soon, he is coming directly from the academy. He was supposed to be here yesterday, but he had some business there and had to stay a day, I'm apologize for the inconvenience."

Just then there was a knock at the doors to the parlor.

The butler walked in and bowed respectfully," Young Master Victor has arrived and is waiting outside your highness'."

"Invite him in," The Duke said with a wave of his hand.

Victor was a tall young man. When he walked in, his dark hair shone under the sunshine that passed through the large windows of the parlor . His blood red eyes, the symbol of the Andreas lineage, glistened like rubies.

As Arabelle was observing Victor, Victor was observing Arabelle. When their eyes met, Arabelle gave Victor a polite smile.

"Victor! Your late! "the Duchess scolded unfolding her fan," Your father and I thought that we might need to make them leave," she continued, fanning herself.

"I'm sorry for my tardiness," Victor replied," I was delayed as I had some business to attend to at the academy."

"It's alright," the Marquess returned humbly," what matters now is that everyone is here."

"Yes," the Duke agreed, turning to Arabelle he smiled," Arabelle, this is Victor, my eldest son."

"And Victor, this is Arabelle."

"I think you both know why we are here today," the Duke continued taking a sip of his tea.

"The Marquess and I have decided that the union of our families would be a great benefit to both of us, and the best way to unite both of our houses would be through marriage."

The Duke paused taking a sip of his tea," I know this is quite sudden, but we do believe this is for the better. You are both respectable people and are old enough to understand what's good for our houses."

Arabelle looked at her teacup, he porcelain was delicate and the clear tea, rich in aroma and color, reflected the lights streaming through the grand windows. It should have been the perfect cup. But the tea was cold.

"Now," The Duke said turning to Arabelle and Victor in turn," How about a walk in the garden you two? You should get to know each other."
