Chapter 26: Friends

Under the hews of orange covered the sky, the snow spread mountains looked mesmerizingly beautiful, the sunset in Kazeer is marvelous.

Sylvia watched it standing by the window beside her bed, a small smile spread across her lips, this is one of the memorable moments of her life.

No one is here to control her and she doesn't have to talk to her aunt explaining all her actions which bought a relief.

Nothing happened as she feared. Maximus did not even look at her side when she came across him. She hoped he has changed his mind and that's the only thing she wants right now.

Sylvia came out of the quarters and walked to the kitchen. She prepared tea for Nina and know Theodore isn't there when she went to meet her sometime before.

Nina is kind to her which she's so grateful for, at this time. Leaving her hometown and coming all the way here to work is quite difficult but it's her aunt's decision and she can't talk back. Nina is friendly and hasn't given her a ton of work that usually women from royal family does.

Nina is sadly sitting on her cot when Sylvia entered the room.

"I brought you some tea," Sylvia smiles and sat on the cot when Nina asked her to sit.

"I don't need anything, Sylvia,"

"Why? What happened?'

"I don't feel better,"

"Then you should have a cup of this tea. It might soothe you, your highness,"

"Fine, I will do it when you stop calling me like that,"

"Then how should I call you?" Sylvia asks.

"Just Nina is fine,"

"No, I can't address you like that, especially in front of others," Sylvia refused.

"You can, I won't let any will question you. Maybe I have married the crown prince, but I am just like you. If I have born in Sinatra then I would have worked as a maid too," Nina said.

Nina smiles and she's amazed how Nina accepts her past instead of having pride that she's the wife of the future king.

"You too have some tea," Nina said. It was a great start to their friendship and Sylvia was so happy.

"What's your age, Sylvia?"

"18," she answers.

"Sorry for asking this usual question, aren't you going to marry soon?"

Sylvia smiles, "No one has proposed to me yet," she answers. With her aunt's reputation as an arrogant woman and her uncle's affairs, no one wants to marry her.

"Really? You look so beautiful," Nina exclaims.

"I got a few, but most of them were alcoholics and gamblers. Marrying them and spending the rest of my life in misery, I wanted to be like this," she answered and heard that Nina felt bad for her. In some ways, she's looking so beautiful than her and she's a good-hearted woman. Men are so blind, Nina thought.

"But sometimes, it makes me sad that everyone wants to get married, even it was someone I don't like," Sylvia said, "The good thing is my aunt doesn't start to compel me yet,"

"I can understand that. Whenever people ask me when I am getting married, I was pissed off,"

"But you are married into a great family, you are lucky," Sylvia smiled.

"I don't know," Nian shrugs. She might have married into the prestigious family in this whole kingdom, but she didn't know yet that she had married the right man for her.

"My step-mother used to tell me that the right man is just waiting for the right to knock on your door so I am telling you the same. He will come to you no matter how hard you push him away," Nina says, thinking about her life.

"I hope so," Sylvia has no hope at all.

"Tell me about your aunt, is she good to you?" Nina asks.

"Sometimes she's nice to me, she's strict, always acts by the rules, and expects disciple," Sylvia said.

"It must be hard, just one day listening to all her rants made me sick. I wondered how you managed to be with her for all these years," Nina chuckles.

"My Uncle is a good man. But yes, it is hard," Sylvia simply finished. She doesn't want to get into the grisly details of her abuse.

"I now think, my stepmother is so good to me,"

"When your mother died?"

"I was four years old. She was a beautiful woman,"

"Yes, you have her eyes, huh?"

Nina nods. "And you have beautiful eyes too," Nina said, looking at Sylvia's green eyes.

"Thank you," Sylvia said, "Do you have many friends in your hometown?"

"Not much. Only my sister,"

"I have seen her,"

"And you might have a lot of friends?"

"No, my aunt doesn't like that kind of acquaintance,"

"Your Aunt again?" Nina could understand how much Sylvia is frightened by her aunt. Even hundreds of miles far from the palace, she still fears as if her aunt is watching her.

"When your aunt asked you to go with me, you were so upset that you don't want to be separated from her?" Nina carefully asks questions.

Sylvia staggered initially and reasoned, "I didn't expect that she will send me off and I heard about the war going on so I was scared," Sylvia lying again and she felt bad about it. She's scared because she knows Maximus will be around. She can't get away from him this time, especially no one around.

That is quite acceptable and Nina thought she must have mistaken that gaze. She doesn't know anything about anyone so it's a waste of time to validate them.

"Jian goes to market tomorrow; I am going with her and do you want to join us?" Nina asks.

"Sure, I will. It's of my rules to follow you wherever you go to assist you," Sylvia smiles.

"Great then, we will buy something nice to eat," Nina said.

Sylvia nods with a smile.

"When his majesty will return so that I can bring him supper?"

"Don't bother. I think he doesn't need supper," Nina frowns.

Sylvia realizes the sadness which has been plastered on Nina's face is because of him. They might have had some misunderstanding.

"Okay, I will come back later," Sylvia says and walks out of the room.

She has told many lies in this conversation, which is bothering her. Maybe this is the reason why she never had friends. Sylvia heaves a sigh and looks at the sky, which has turned dark. The bright full-moon is lonely just like her. She too wanted to get married to a good man and experience that true love, but she doesn't know she deserved that? The God she prays doesn't give her an easy life.
