Chapter 25: First Day Part II

As Van walked downstairs, he met a girl that looked lost and was just standing there in ragged clothes looking around.

"Can you help me? I am trying to get to the entrance ceremony." She asked Van as soon as she saw him.

"Well so am I, but I think that if we look together, we will find it faster," Van said with a smile. "By the way my name is Van, what is yours?"

"It is Camellia. Thank you for helping me."

"That is a really nice name." He said as he noticed that there was a large sign that said entrance ceremony this way.

~Can she not read? Well, looking at her clothes she seems to be homeless.

As they both walked into the ceremony hall they were immediately noticed because they interrupted a speech. Everyone looking at them, made Camellia freeze. She wasn't used to the attention, and she did not like it. Van saw this and grabbed her hand and led her to two empty chairs under the watchful gazes of everyone. Little did Van know, him grabbing Camellia's hand-painted a huge target on her back. The females of the class were instantly jealous of her. Each one wanted Van because of his magical power, the nobles even more so.

The males of the class were already jealous of Van because they thought that they didn't stand a chance against him when it came to dating. They knew that if any girl decided to date them that they were just settling because they couldn't get Van. Little did anyone know Van already had an interest in another.

One Van and Camellia sat down everyone returned their attention to the speaker.

"As I was saying, today those of you that require housing will be assigned rooms here at the college. In your rooms, there will be a book that explains the rules of this college." The speaker went on for about a half-hour explaining different things to the students. "You will now be sorted into your homeroom classes. When you hear your name please come up to the stage and follow your teacher."

The speaker went and sat back down, and another person walked up to the podium and started to call names. Everyone did as instructed, and walked up to the stage, when the last person to be called made their way to the stage the group left the auditorium. Another person walked up to the podium and started to call names.

"Van Augustus"

Hearing his name Van got up and started to walk to the stage. When he was walking he noticed the girls that has already been called were looking at him excitedly.

"Camellia Gephi"

The face of the girls on the stage turned from excitement to jealousy and even anger instantly. Camellia got up and started to walk to the stage under the constant gazes of everyone left. She had no idea why everyone was watching her so intently. She was just a homeless orphan from the country, she couldn't think of anything that she had done wrong, besides show up late to the ritual.

She had shown up at the very tail end of the ritual, she had arrived as the last person was walking inside, she had to call out to the staff for them to notice her. When she had placed her hands on the crystal, she prayed that she would unlock magic so she could escape from her hellish life. The crystal lit up with a deep gold color and a dark black color. She was told that her affinities were Holy magic and Dark Magic. She had broken down and cried. She thought her life was going to change. Not a single student had seen her affinities, and she was too late to witness anyone else's.

When she walked up to the stage, the teacher told them all to stay silent and follow.

"My name is Natasha Pandav. You will address me as Ma'am. Today is going to be the orientation of the college campus. We will first go to your homeroom, and we will finish there also." She explained to her students as they walked out of the auditorium.

As they walked through the halls of the college the students were inundated with information on where they were, and what classes were being held. When they reached the homeroom classroom Natasha instructed everyone to find a seat and sit down.

Van noticed that there was a group of girls following him as he searched for a seat, and there was a group of guys following the girls. He sighed and was about to sit down when Natasha spoke out of frustration.

"Just sit down, the seats are not assigned so you may move around later. I know everyone wants to sit next to Mr. Prodigy, but we are on a schedule. So, Van please just find a seat so your bootlicking followers will sit also."

With Natasha calling everyone out Van immediately sat down, and the faces of the girls that were following him turned a very bright shade of red.

"Now that everyone has taken a seat we can start. I will be passing out your Grimoires they are, as you all know, extremely important. These are the basic Grimoires; they can store any spell up to tier 2. You are allowed to go purchase better ones from the college store, but they are very expensive. The better the grimoire the better the casting capabilities they have and the higher tier spells they can hold. When you get the Grimoire, I will teach you all how to imprint it."

Natasha began to pass out the Grimoires to everyone. Each person immediately opened it to see that the pages were blank, that didn't phase them because soon those pages would fill up with spells, glyphs, and incantations for arrays.

~I will have to go buy a Grimoire from the store because of the Immolate Spell.

Once everyone had their Grimoires, Natasha started to explain the imprinting process. "The easiest way to imprint something is to place your hand on the object and close your eyes, once your eyes are closed remember the feeling you had when you touched the crystal outside. Feel the magic inside of you and say Imprint. You should feel some magic leaving your body through your hand and into the object."

Van followed her instructions and said, "Imprint." To his amazement, he felt the faintest amount of magic leave his hand and imprint the book. When he opened his eyes, he saw his book fluctuate between all of the colors that represent magic and a few colors that didn't.

~I am going to have to cover this up.

He looked around the room and noticed Camellias Grimoire was an extremely deep Gold and Black. He wasn't the only one that noticed either. The girls' jealousy deepened even more. Seeing everyone's attention was either on him or Camellia he sighed as he opened his book. To his surprise on the first page was:

Van Augustus

Rank: Novice

Magical Strength: unknown

MP: 1,000,000

Magical Affinity(s)

Earth / Fire / Water / Wind / Light / Dark / Holy / Plant / Dimensional / Summoning / Gravity / Telekinetic / Chaos / Void / Electric.

~~ Alice, do you see this? The number of affinities is way too many, this is cheating. I am going to have to sit down and do a lot of research on these unknown magical affinities.

~~ {You are going to have a lot of work ahead of you. But you will learn fast, your best bet is to go through school at the top of the class. You will have access to the most resources if you do. This would be my guess.}

Van sat there stupefied by what his Grimoire displayed. All of the ink was slightly glowing in the rainbow of colors that his Grimoire was. He then turned the page, and it was labeled Earth Spells. Under this, it listed Mud Trap and Sand Trap. He turned the page again and it listed his Fire spells, Fire Trap and Immolate. Immolate was not glowing and it was just standard black ink. He continued to turn the pages and every page was labeled with an affinity and the spell under them matched.

Van quickly closed his Grimoire and sat still waiting for Natasha to continue explaining things.

"As some of you with magical power on the weaker side that it takes quite a bit of magic to imprint something. We will rest here for 1 hour, so please take this time to introduce yourselves. Van and Camellia, please come see me" Natasha announced.

Van and Camellia both walked up to the front of the classroom while the students were openly bummed that they were not able to speak to them first of right away. The rest of the students quickly got over it and started to mingle and introduce themselves. Cliques developed quite fast, governed by the color of the Grimoires and the ranks in the clique were decided by how deep the color was.

"You are welcome," Natasha said to both as they arrived at her desk. "You two are the only students to have more than one affinity this year and to have such deep colors to top it off. Your life at this college can be extremely easy or extremely hard, depending on how you treat those around you. You guys will have a lot of envious people especially the nobles."

Van and Camellia thought about what Natasha said when she told them to go stand in front of the classroom. When they walked in front of everyone their attention was placed on them.

"Everyone take your seats and pay attention. The two students that everyone is dying to get to know will now introduce themselves. Van and Camellia, please state your name, where you are from, what magical affinities you have, and anything else you might think the class will find interesting. Camellia, you may go first."

"H-Hi… my name is Camellia Gephi I am from the village of Redstone; I am an orphan my parents were killed when I was young by monsters. My magical affinities are Dark and Holy Magic. I was brought here through the Farfield Foundation for Orphans a couple of months ago. I hope that I can get along with everyone."

When Van heard the name Farfield Foundation he quietly thanked Ms. Etta for actually putting the money to good use.

"My name is Van Augustus, I am from the village Farfield, I am also an orphan. My magical affinities are everything." Van decided to be vague with his answer. "The destruction of my village was what lead to the creation of the foundation. I am also the inventor and creator of the pencils that you all are using."

Van's declaration of having every affinity, being from the destroyed village everyone knew about, and that he was the inventor of the pencil, caused each and every jaw to hit the floor, even Natasha's.

"We will now continue with the tour."

Van and his classmates finished the tour, they were introduced to different instructors and brought to the different affinity areas of the college. While walking around Van realized that he was going to be super busy trying to learn all the affinities at once even if his way of learning was essentially cheating.

After the class got back to their homeroom they were all given a folder containing a parchment with their room numbers on it, and instructions to imprint the door when they arrived.

Van had chosen to stay at the college because there wasn't a curfew and it was slightly closer to his workshop. He decided that having a bed he could call his own without relying on the Merchants Guild was a step to independence. He arrived at his room and imprinted the door. He then walked in to see that the room was an individual room. It had a queen-size bed, a desk with a chair, a trunk, and a window. The walls were bare but there was plenty of room to decorate if he wanted to. He put down his Grimoire on the desk and sat in the chair to finally relax for the day.
