Chapter 11: The Meeting
Lisa was currently in the middle of her own interrogation. She was surrounded by holographic projections of leaders from each of the major factions. At the meeting were representatives from Earth, Lunar, Martian, the asteroid mining guild, Jupiter Moons and finally the Kuiper belt factions.
They were currently using a device that Lisa had requested from the boys. It took a fair amount of bargaining and time for them to successfully create it. The device allowed for an instantaneous conference call.
The twins were allowed access to their ship where they could access the workshop equipment that had been stored onboard. Using the equipment they had built 10 instantaneous holographic communication devices. These devices were then shipped to each faction using fast unmanned drones.
Each leader was wearing a robe and a mask to hide their identities as they were leaders of the intelligence agencies so it was prudent to remain anonymous. The Earth represented started the meeting.
"I'm sure we are all fascinated by these devices but I believe it's time we start. Colonel Lisa Jameson of the martian defence force, you have now been with the child known as Null for a month. We are here today to receive your report. I'm sure everyone here has the same questions. Where did he come from? and is he a threat?"
"I believe they are an experiment from a highly advanced laboratory. They reject any attempt to gather intelligence on their mentor. It is almost like they have been brainwashed to prevent any knowledge from leaking. The only information we could find on Null was his competition entry which appears to be a fabricated entry." She gave them some time to process her answer before answering the second question
"Are they a threat? my answer is not intentionally but Null, in particular, has the maturity of a child but at the same time has access to weapons of mass destruction. This time of situation makes me ponder what type of person their mentor is. That said I truly believe they only came to compete in the competition."
"I do want to know more about this mentor. I think it is time we used some more forcible methods to extract information" stated the lunar representative.
The earth representative but his up stopping the others from speaking. "Remember the purpose of this gathering is get the known facts, the discussion on actions will be scheduled for later"
Lisa interjected. "I would strongly recommend against antagonising them. I don't believe we know the true limits of their abilities. They have already shown the ability to use some form of telekinesis. Also Null once mention after an embarrassing spar with our special forces trainer that if he could use his real powers, no one could touch him."
"So,have you been able to determine exactly what he/they are ?" asked the representative from Earth.
"Null has allowed us to run multiple tests and scans but each of them shown that other than his brain he is a perfect specimen of an accelerated growth child. His brain on the other hand seems to suffer from multiple defects. For example, there is no connection between his brain and vocal cords so he will always be mute. I believe Infy plays a larger role than we can understand in allowing Null to be functional." Answered Lisa.
"Has there been progress on understanding the artificial life form?" This time the question came from her own Martian representative.
Lisa was hesitant to answer this question. She had asked Null about Infy and had received an answer but she wasn't sure how if they would believe it.
"We have no equipment to or any idea how to start analysing Infy. Especially if he does not consent. I can tell you verbatim the answer I got from Null but it is not the most believable." She continued. "Infy is an artificial angel. To create a new life there are 3 requirements. A body, a mind and a soul. Infy is an AI who was given an angel body and we share a soul. Making a body and a mind isn't hard but it seems making a soul is difficult so we have to share."
This piece of information was an unexpected boon for the young boys. It gave each of the representatives an idea to build on. The representatives extrapolated their Ideas and concluded that the twins were the result of some advanced fundamental Christian cult running human experiments.
The meeting carried on for a while, with each representative asking Lisa many questions. The final question was what was her recommendations on how they should handle the twins.
"I believe we will get better results if we can gain their trust. I believe they are too valuable to alienate, just look at this technology we are using. It is years in advance of anything we could create. To this end, I believe we need to let them compete in the competition. interacting with children their age might make it easier to gather data. I'm sure we can pass Infy off as some type of advanced assistance AI that helps Null communicate."
After the Colonel had finished her report the representatives had their own meeting and had decided to endorse her suggestion and introduce Null and Infy to some of the children that had already arrived to compete in YSC. They had set the conditions that the Colonel would have to accompany the twins to the surface and that their ship had to stay onboard the orbital station and its lockdown removed otherwise they would be detained indefinitely.
Lisa had informed the boys of these conditions and was hoping they would accept them but she knew they wouldn't.
"I told you, you overestimate yourselves. We are more than happy to see the other competitors. In fact, that is why we came here but why is everything so difficult?" Infy was tired of being contained so he had decided it was time to take action.
Lisa didn't disagree but she did not have the power to change anything. She had tried to get the representatives to understand that they need to treat the twins better but it seems they were only interested in what they could get out of it.
Lisa had spent a month with the boys and felt she had a good handle on how they would react but Null face was not one she had seen before. She assumed that he and Infy were having a discussion but he looked sad which was not the response she was expecting. She either expected excitement at meeting new people or anger at trying to be controlled.
The three of them talked a bit more and continued with their language training. Over the last month, Lisa had been helping them learn the solar standard language so they could engage better in conversations. Unexpectedly during the lesson Null had come close to Lisa.
"I'm sorry about this" Null then placed a band like object around her wrist and then her, Null and the Aethon disappeared.
