Chapter 44: The Contraption
The party found themselves back in the hanger of the Golden Chariot, very confused at the abrupt change in location.
"I wanted to see more dragons, that last one looked awesome did you see the size of his scales?" asked Null, The technical talk about abilities was boring but He enjoyed seeing the powerful dragons and was upset that they had been teleported away.
"Is this real? Infy check to see if everyone is in the correct proportions" asked Chris, he was half-joking but half-serious.
Infy did as he was asked, "No this is real, everyone is how they should be."
Earning both Chris and Null a slap on the shoulder by Jania. "Stop asking them to perv on us. I would slap Infy too but I can't reach his body"
Chris was about to respond but found himself and the rest of the party in a dark room. The only difference was the Infy had his own full energy body with wings and a halo.
"Welcome, Lisa Jameson, Christopher Jameson and Jania Anders to my spiritual realm. Welcome back Null Anderson and Infinity creation of Sariel. Please relax, this shouldn't hurt but I need to scan your memories of what happened on planet Delphi" The Primordial was keeping a track of the party but couldn't detect them while they were on the planet as the dragons defences were too strong.
He was excited when he could suddenly sense the human party again and needed to see if they had gained any insight into the future. After scanning their memories his excitement waned, as he realised Pythia had most likely accounted for his interference and hadn't given anything away.
'That Pamphilos, he said too much. I will have to remove the memories of that final conversation about true magic and being from an Alterra seed race. We can't let the other races find out about the Alterra' He thought to himself.
He was able to remove the memories from the humans, but Null and Infinity seem to have had a natural resistance to tampering.
Infy was beside himself in anger "Stop! why are you trying to remove our memories?" and then continued "What gives you the right, you are not our leader, you aren't even from our faction"
The Primordial had everything he needed from the humans so sent them back to their bodies.
"Power gives me the right, I think you forget yourself, young angel. Your Paragon doesn't even know you exist " while he was talking he had brought both Null and Infy spiritual projection to their knees in pain. "This is my realm, and I may not be able to wipe those memories from your mind, but I will remind you of the consequences of defying me." He continued to cause them pain on a spiritual level, nothing they did could ease the pain. It had felt like they were being burnt alive.
"I can bring you here any time I wish and this is only a sample of the pain I can cause. You are not to speak of anything Pamphilos mentioned about true magic or Alterra to anyone. If you tell anyone I will bring you and your whole party here to be punished." Before he could get any more worked up he sent the twins back as well.
"That was fun, wait, Leia says mine and her memories had been tampered with" It hasn't only Jania. The others were making the same discovery their AI's had also detected the tampering.
"Yes, He removed a memory of a conversation with Pamphilos, but the prick said that if we tell you about the conversation he will punish us all" Null had basically spat out the words. Infy followed on
"For some reason, he couldn't remove them from us so he reminded us that there is still a power differential between us"
The other members didn't want to think what that last line meant but judging by the look on Null face it had not been pleasant. This was not how the humans had wanted their first meeting with a Paragon to go. To be welcome and then having their memories scanned without permission and having some of them forcibly removed.
"Before we speak of anything to anyone, there is something we need to do. Between the Primordial, Phosphoros and this tracking band, we need to get some spiritual defence." Infy had a plan and this time he wasn't going to be playing by the rules set by anyone.
The rest followed Null and Infy into the workshop. The boys had transformed into their hybrid form, but they were glowing gold instead of the normal black. Null raised his hand and a solid bar of iron flew into it. The others were mesmerized by the display not only of the golden glow but they could faintly hear a soft melody playing.
The Iron bar in Null hand had now transformed into the largest Zallium crystal they had ever seen. They weren't finished yet and had made a few smaller crystals. These smaller crystals were turned into tiny white dwarf stars. The boys had thrown up a shield to protect everyone and continued with their project.
The sound the others could hear started to get louder and louder and the large Zallium crystals started to glow more intensely and released a shockwave that continued outward. The shockwave passed the outer hull and the gravity and power inside the ship failed and everyone but the twins started to float. Moments later everything returned to normal.
"All done, no one will be able to bother us now." Null and Infy were happy that their plan had worked. They had channelled their anti-field barrier spell into the crystal making a prime magic version of it. The suns that powered the spell would need to be replaced every once in a while to keep the whole system powered.
They were starting to suspect that maybe the anti-field spell was their ability and because it used all the fields at once they could as well. 'Hey, Null maybe we are just like everyone else?' Infy asked over their private link.
'No, I do agree that it is likely our ability, I think there is more to it, if only we could find that missing link' the two discussed it for a while ignoring the rest of the party who were beside themselves.
Lisa knew what that zoned out look meant, but she wanted an answer now. She walked up and shook Null. "Oi, you and Infy can chat later, what the hell is all this and this time explain it fully" Lisa waved her hand at the new contraption.
Infy decided to answer for Null. "We have placed an anti-field barrier around the whole of the Golden Chariot. No one will be able to use the fields to get in and out. Only normal methods will work which we can defend against easier."
"What about our deniability plan?, how are we explaining the Zallium or the spell?" asked Chris, he was happy they were now protected but he did worry about the cost.
"The Zallium came from Delphi and the spell is our natural ability, at least some of that is true" Explained Infy.
"So that the excuse you want to go with?" the voice of Unit2317 came from the tracking band.
"Wait you shouldn't be here," said Null
"I was already here before you activated your spell and now I can't return or call in my body." stated the Valtaui.
"Uhm sorry, I guess," said Null with a sheepish look on his face, they hadn't even considered that.
