Chapter 26: Veronica
In the middle of the woods, a wooden hut was seen. It was very shabby and it was likely to fall if there was heavy rain or strong wind.
Inside this house, a silhouette was seen. The woman was bound in chains and was skin and bones. It was evident she was a beauty but due to mistreatment and malnutrition, she was dishevelled and looked more of a skeleton, than a human being.
The clothes she was wearing were long shredded, it was just a few parts of her thin body that were covered. Her back was littered with scars, some old and some new. It was clear she was just tortured not long ago as there was blood still oozing on some wounds.
Her arms were high up in the air and her ankles were shackled as well and spread apart. Her head hung down and it was not clear if she was breathing or not. The stench of humification was lingering in the air. It was unknown how long she has been this way, she looked like she had given up.
Veronica has been like this for more than 20 years. These people kept torturing her. She had trusted Lydia and Jessica. She thought they were her friends, but she realised late they were nothing but monsters. They had stolen her life and they did the most inhuman things to her.
Lydia stole her family and Jessica liked to test her experiments on her.
Veronica was not sure how she was still alive, the poisons she had consumed were too many. By Luna and God's grace, she was still alive. They always used witchcraft to make up illusions for Oscar, they would take him to this shit hole and make him sleep with her. Once she was pregnant she would never see her mate again. It was torture. She never really enjoyed their time together.
Though this was the only way she could be one with him, it was still not within his right mind. He was always convinced he was with Lydia. It was the most hurtful thing Veronica had to go through. Her mate calling her by that woman's name when they were intimate. These women were elicited in breaking her. They made sure they brought up the most painful things to break her. Her soul was long gone now, she was not a whole person but a shell.
She felt numb, she was no longer able to feel pain. The first time she was bound on these chains, the wolfbane was excruciating. It embedded its self around every cell in her body. She felt like she was dying but slowly. No matter how many times she cried, begging them to release her. They never did but look at her with nothing but ridicule.
Lydia always had this hatred in her eyes before she even betrayed her, but she never knew it was towards her. She always thought it was because her family cast her out. She always felt resentment was towards the family who wanted nothing to do with her, but she was wrong. Lydia hated her because she was able to get a mate though she was a lone wolf. It was rare, but she was bestowed with a companion and Lydia hated her for this.
Jessica was a sadistic witch. She loved making potions and testing them on living beings. When she was allowed to use her as a guinea pig, she didn't pass the opportunity. After all, this was once in a lifetime. Veronica to this date, still wondered how she was still alive because she has been given so many poisons, she even lost count. For the first 6 years in her prison, she was just beaten up and tortured with silver and wolfsbane.
Of course, Jessica loved to use some illusion spells on her. Those were the worst. She would create a hellish place for her in her mind, she would be bound in that place for days. It would be her witnessing people being killed. It would start with what she wanted, like family and friends that were true to her. Then she would kill them slowly.
It was like giving her hope, then she would take it away from the instant she was elicited. It was cruel. Jessica pried in her most desired feelings and buried them one after another, then once her Mike was born the experiments came.
It was decided by Lydia that two children were enough. She never had a say in her life, they controlled everything. Lydia loved gloating to her about the life she could have had but now was not has. The moment Veronica realised they were not going to allow her to have any more children, she was beyond hurt. By Luna's grace, she gave birth when she was alone and they only realised on the 3rd day.
She was still bleeding and lost so much blood and was convinced she was going to die. But, she was encouraged by her son who didn't die, even though he shouldn't have survived.
Lydia was angry when she realised she gave birth when she was not there. "When did you give birth?" she had asked in anger.
"Last night," this was the answer Veronica gave. It was a lie, she gave birth on 20th April 2003 and she told them it was the 3rd day after she gave birth.
Her son was born on Sunday but she said he was born on Tuesday. They believed her and this was the only revenge Veronica had for Lydia. She deserved everything she was to face.
Today was that day, her son was turning 18. She was happy because she knew everything was coming to an end, either she was going to be alive or she was to die. She didn't care, as long Lydia got what was coming to her. Jessica will sooner or later as well meet her match. The cruel things she had to endure and the pain she had experience will be returned 1000 folds.
"I will rejoice today, either by death or survival," Veronica proclaimed with her hoarse voice.
A laughed broke out from a woman who was busy with potions. She was amused with the statement the pathetic woman said. She always thought the woman was deranged. She was wishful as well, pity she would never experience freedom.
Her life was doomed to end in this sagging hut.
