Chapter 55: Discussing Threats
Inside the patriarch's house, Rayzen and Akihira were sitting facing each other on the floor, with the steaming tea, for the both of them, and the teapot placed on the table in between them.
It was the same as their previous meetings. The tea was made and served by the patriarch.
Akihira had a cold frown on his face as he stared at Rayzen without blinking, making the latter feel uncomfortable. Not knowing what to say or do, he just took his tea and blew on it for some time and took a sip. Following common sense, the action scalded his mouth and throat a bit, since the tea was served less than a minute ago. But he shoved down the pain like nothing, to avoid the awkwardness.
Lucky for him Akihira cleared the awkward atmosphere as he asked seriously : " You are intelligent enough to understand me, brat! So answer truthfully! Was there no other way to diffuse the situation? "
Rayzen replied in a calm voice, while his face couldn't hide his irritation : " None! "
Akihira sighed and then asked excitedly :
" Now then kid, tell me everything that happened? Especially detail the parts were you fought those Genins and that Chunin Juichi. "

" Hahaha... I cannot even compare myself to you, when I was your age kid! But even though you are just an academy student and hence allowed to make some mistakes, someone in your situation will have to pay an enormous price for it. And when you start your ninja career, a single mistake may take your life! "
Rayzen nodded in understanding.
Akihira couldn't help but shake his head seeing Rayzen just nodding to his words :
' He is still a kid afterall! '
He asked Rayzen with a sigh: " Are you still clueless about the consequences of what you have said earlier infront of everyone? "
Rayzen didn't understand what the patriarch meant as he voiced his doubt:
" Consequences? What I said?... Isn't it just the extremists being much more wary of my power? "
Akihira had a helpless smile on his face as he said : " Although there is that, the most important consequences is something different. I see that you have that bit of the arrogance growing in you. The arrogance of thinking that you are capable of handling whatever's thrown at you. "
Rayzen had an expression on his face that said he thought otherwise.
Seeing his look, Akihira mocked him: " Do you think that you have successfully survived their mere probing strike? What you might not have realised is that you have unknowingly fell for their trap? "
Rayzen couldn't comprehend how he fell for the extremist's trap. As far he is concerned with, him and his loved ones are safe and he got some breathing room before the next sinister attacks on him. Hence he requested Akihira sincerely :
" Please enlighten me patriarch! "
Akihira knocked Rayzen's head as he berated him:
" I already told you to not be formal with me while it's just us, didn't I? "
" Coming back to the point. You have offended the entire Konoha Military Police Force. Your poor choice of words and accusations had tarnished their reputation. Don't think that they would just suffer in silence? You were baited into being on their bad side. This is what happens when you underestimate a bunch of scheming old men. "
Rayzen couldn't help but scold himself in his thoughts:
' F*ck! I definitely fell for it! Why didn't I see this? Would the police force act against my family then? '
Seeing the frustrated look of Rayzen, Akihira comforted him : " Don't worry too much, kid! What had happened, happened! There's no use in regretting your actions. Besides, since you will be joining the police force after graduation, they won't make a move on you. Neither will the extremists! And the police force is not so low as to hurt your family. "
Rayzen confirmed his situation with Akihira:
" So that means I won't have to watch out for any of them till graduation? "
Akihira replied : " Yes! If they make a move, then they will be just handing their heads over to me. Besides, among these extremists, there are a few who values their life more than their ideals or anything. "
Rayzen sighed in relief as he thought:
' That means I have two years. That's enough time to become strong enough to withstand most of their schemes and almost all of their attacks. '
Akihira seeing the confidence that he found to his liking in Rayzen shining brightly again, advised him :
" Although you might think you have two years. It might not be enough! "
Rayzen asked in confusion:
" Why do you say so? "
Akihira replied : " When you report at the Konoha Military Police Force, you will be forced to a battle, most probably with Juichi. And he may come up with some sneaky trump cards. It doesn't end there! There's a very high chance that he will try to go for the kill. Whereas you can't kill him, as that would further drive the members of police force against you. "
Rayzen asked with no apparent concern :
" Can't I just avoid the battle? "
Rayzen saw that Akihira was visibly angry due to his retort. Akihira said in a increasingly indifferent tone :
" Sure! You only would have to bear the title of coward that some already acknowledge you as! "
Rayzen apologized for his insensitive retort.
Akihira was unable to stay angry at him as he reminded him: " Remember Rayzen, you are working to be the next patriarch under the support of a lot of people especially Takeshi and myself. People will lose respect for you, when you ignore the challenges you are faced with.
The main reason why I had punished you to serve the police force is to provide an opportunity for you to control the entire force. Earlier I wanted you to join the force out of your own volition. But from the looks of things, punishing you to join seems the only way for you to be accepted in the force without any hiccups.
Currently, majority of the police force is under the control of the extremists whereas Fugaku is their poster boy. And you can't underestimate him just because of that. Since his individual strength is the top among the youths of our clan and he will surely surpass me in the future. Besides, the forces of the extremists are available for his use, even though he doesn't have direct control over them. So you can expect trouble from his side too. "
Rayzen took his time processing everything while the patriarch drank his tea in peace, constantly observing Rayzen and venturing into his own thoughts.
After a while, when the both of them had finished their tea and Rayzen was about to leave, he asked Akihira :
" Patriarch! You mentioned earlier that some people are calling me a coward. Why is that so? I don't remember doing anything to be warranting of such a title. "
