Chapter 8: Chapter 7: Mermaid???
"No, I am the only one here" replied Liam.
Marie and Daphne then took a seat in the compartment. Marie moved her hand towards Liam and introduced herself, "Hello, I am Marie Accalon." then asked "And who would you be?"
Liam shyly introduced himself, "I am Liam Gremory, Nice to meet you". He expected Daphne to also introduce herself but she just ignored Liam.
He was wondering who Marie was he didn't remember any character named Marie in Harry potter. He just thought that she was just a side character but if there was such a side character he would surely have noticed her. She looked like a character who should be have been noticed.
Liam was a bit uncomfortable sitting in the presence of two girls. But the girls were chatting like they were the only people in the compartment. There was a sudden knock on the door of the compartment. It was none other than Hermione. She was looking for Neville's lost toad.
"Did you see a toad? A boy named Neville has lost his" Said Hermione as she looked towards the duo of girls.
Daphne ignored the existence of Hermione, Marie replied, "No we haven't".
Hermione noticed the boy sitting next to the window seat alone on the other side of the compartment, "Hey!! Aren't you the garden boy"
Liam had already noticed Hermione, "Yes Ms. Granger" She looked at him with embarrassment, "Sorry last time we met I didn't get your name. You were also a wizard who would have thought!" She exclaimed.
"Let me properly introduce myself then, I am Liam Gremory. Nice to meet you" Liam introduced himself.
Hermione smiled, "I will remember your name" she giggled, "Anyway have you seen a toad?"
Liam was distressed he knew he couldn't tell her directly where the toad was but he really wanted to help her, "I am afraid that I haven't seen any toad." Hermione sighed with disappointment, "But I do know where that toad will be". Said Liam in a mysterious tone.
Hermione was confused, "Where the toad will be? What do you mean by that" As being one of the clever people she had already started to find out information about what they will be learning in the later years in Hogwarts. She remembered that it also included a subject called 'Divination' in which they learn how to predict future.
Hermione looked towards Liam with expectations. Liam closed his eyes and pretended to chant a mantra then he opened his eyes very slowly and said, "The boy will find his pet at the castle in front of a woman who can turn into a cat".
Hermione was dumbfounded she had never seen such idiotic thing before but this felt funny to her, "Don't make up stuff" She laughed and went away searching for the lost toad.
Marie laughed out aloud but Daphne didn't think this was funny all, "Nice job acting like a fool, but don't you go disrespecting the art of divination. You are from the Gremory Family, I haven't heard this name before. Is it a Wizarding Family from a different Country"
"No I am not from a wizarding family, I am just an orphan" replied Liam.
Just as he said this the expression on Daphne's face became even worse. It was clearly visible to both Liam and Marie that Daphne was prejudices against non-pure bloods. She Held Marie's hand and pulled her out of the compartment, "Marie Lets go and find somewhere else to sit." Marie had a helpless look on her face it was as if she was unwilling to go.
Liam didn't mind getting such a treatment as he had already expected that he would be treated as such.
After few hours of hectic train journey to Hogwarts Liam had reached the destination. All the first year students were taken towards the lake. A boy said, "Aren't there mermaids in the lake. I hope I get to see one of them."
Hagrid who was leading the group had already had the students mount the boats, each boat holding no more than 3 students.
Now there was only one boat left and three students coincidently the three students remaining were Liam, Marie and Daphne. Liam just as he saw that he was going to have to sit with Daphne he was feeling a bit uncomfortable, but he didn't mind sitting with Marie at all.
Hagrid shouted, "Come on get on the boat, hurry up".
The boats started rowing on their own and started moving towards the castle. Marie, Liam and Daphne had a tense atmosphere. To lighten up the mood Marie brought up the topic of mermaids in the lake. "I heard a boy saying that there are mermaids in the lake".
Daphne smiled, "It's not just a rumor its actually true. My mother told me that she got to see a mermaid up close once but she wasn't able to get close to her apparently mermaids are not so good with humans. It's only because the founders of Hogwarts that saved the mermaid clan and gave this lake to them to stay, that they don't harm the students or anyone related to Hogwarts. Even though they live in the lake getting to meet them is still a rare opportunity. It's all written in the book 'History of the forbidden forest' you should read it."
As she was saying this a bright white light started moving from below the lake, it was shaped as that of a very beautiful woman. The students were in awe. They started to look down on the water to get a clear image of the bright light. Hagrid panicked he knew that this was not a mermaid he had never seen such a thing ever in this lake even though having great relation with the mermaid clan he had not even heard of something like this.
Hagrid noticed that the bright light didn't seem malicious it was just swimming under the small boats, as if searching for something.
Liam was no exception to the hype he was also looking in the lake very attentively just to get a glimpse of the bright light. The bright light reached the boat in which Liam was. As it reached his boat the light stopped moving Liam who wanted to get a clear image looked into the lake from the side of the boat.
A very beautiful woman's face emerged from inside the lake, it was shining silvery as if it was an angle. Liam was lost looking at the beauty of the woman in the lake, the woman took her snowy white hand out of the lake and caressed the head of Liam while smiling gently.
Hagrid was panicking even more, the other students were looking towards Liam with envy. Daphne was even more shocked. When the lady in the lake touched Liam's head Marie suddenly started to look towards the lady with resentment.
The lady in the lake said, "I had been waiting for you."
Hagrid in panic raised his wand in panic and launched a flare spell in the sky. The lady in the lake smiled while looking at Liam and said, "We'll meet again" And then disappeared without a trace.
To everyone who had witnessed all this was just thinking that this was all just a dream. Liam was still in daze and couldn't understand what had just happened the last words of the beautiful white lady kept ringing in her head 'We'll meet again'
Now that the lady had disappeared the boats resumed their journey towards Hogwarts.
