Chapter 8: TYPICAL

"SOL, shouldn't you just go home?"

"Why?" Sol asked Kaia who suggested that she go home. The two of them were walking in the hallway while heading to the cafeteria. But she wasn't really looking at Kaia because she was busy online shopping on her phone. "We still have afternoon classes, right?"

"I heard it when Michelle and Nichole threatened you," Kaia said worriedly. "I'm pretty sure that they're going to gang up on you once you meet them."

"What do they usually do to the girls they bully?"

"They usually trap their victim in the girl's bathroom and beat them up," Kaia said hesitantly. "In some extreme cases, they would even strip the victim naked. Then, they will take pictures and videos of the victim for blackmail. They do that to make sure that they won't be reported to the authorities."

"How classic. They've probably watched too many dramas," she said nonchalantly. Then, she turned to Kaia. "Have they done those things to you?"

Kaia's face turned red from embarrassment, then he nodded shyly. "They did that to me when we were in junior high. I reported my bullies to the teachers so they were suspended for quite some time. But as revenge, they leaked my nude photos to the male senior high students of that time. Ever since then, I never dared to report them again. I'm afraid that my bullies could do worse if I anger them again."

"You know that you can sue those who are already of legal age, don't you?"

"I know that but what's the point? They've already seen my naked pictures."

"That's the kind of mindset that fucks you up," she said casually before she focused on her phone again. She was trying to be sympathetic but she didn't really have the patience for a pushover like Kaia. "But I guess I can't totally blame you. I am this confident because my privilege allows me to stand up for myself."

"Sol, is your family rich and influential?" Kaia asked curiously. "Michelle and Nichole are conceited because they're supported by Eloise– the real queen bee of this school. Eloise is from a wealthy family. Most of all, she's close to Quest."

[Quest.]

Finally, the name on the top of her hit list had appeared.

"Who's Quest?" she asked, pretending to be clueless. "Am I supposed to be scared of him?"

"Quest Venosa is the leader of this school. Apparently, he's also the best fighter," Kaia whispered to her as if she was afraid that the other students might hear her. "He's a delinquent, Sol. But the teachers and even the principal can't touch him because of his rich and powerful parents."

"How is that Eloise girl related to Quest Venosa?"

"They are cousins," Kaia said. "Quest is quite protective of Eloise. And so, no one dares to touch Eloise."

"Interesting."

It was really interesting.

Hyacinth High School was a public school. How come it was filled with kids from rich and influential families? It didn't make sense since in this country, most wealthy parents would choose to send their children to private schools instead of public schools.

Private schools didn't automatically mean the best schools. But it was a status symbol for most, especially for families in the middle-class. And so, it didn't make sense for a public school to be swarmed by rich kids.

[This school is really suspicious.]

Yue gave her two pieces of information before he sent her to that school.

First, the school was apparently run by Eloise and Quest Venosa. Quest was the leader of the delinquents while Eloise was the queen bee.

Second, HHS delinquents were funded by–

"Sol!"

Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard Dusk Quijano call her. When she turned around to face him, she saw him approach her.

But he wasn't alone.

A beautiful and somewhat elegant-looking girl was "attached" to Dusk's arm.

[She must be Eloise Venosa.]

Dusk and Eloise stopped in front of her. While the handsome boy was smiling at her, the queen bee was giving her a calculating look.

"Hi, Sol," Dusk greeted her in an energetic yet shy voice. "Do you want to have lunch together?"

She didn't know why but Kaia and the other students around them gasped collectively.

[Wow, are we shooting a teen drama or something?]

It was a good thing that she received acting lessons as a part of her dysfunctional upbringing.

"I have to turn down your offer, Dusk," Sol said while acting like she was disheartened. She also made sure that she looked like a kicked puppy while looking up at him with pitiful eyes. "This is only my first day here but most of the girls in my class already hate me for coming to school with you earlier. They even threatened to hurt me if I don't keep my distance from you."

Dusk looked concerned while listening attentively to her.

[Good.]

"Apparently, their friend will get jealous if I hang out with you," Sol said "hesitantly." "If I remember it correctly, their friend is called Eloise Venosa or something."

Once again, she heard a collective gasp in the background.

On the other hand, Dusk looked very shocked by her revelation.

"You're lying!" Eloise accused her. "I've never asked anyone to bully you! I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh, you're Eloise?" Sol asked, acting scared and innocent. "Are you Dusk's girlfriend?"

Eloise was suddenly rendered speechless.

"She's not my girlfriend," Dusk said firmly, then he turned to Eloise with questioning eyes. "Eloi, we've been friends since we were kids. Tell me. Is Sol telling the truth?"

"Dusk, do you believe her?" Eloise asked in disbelief. "Are you going to believe someone you just met over me?"

"It's Sol's first day in this school so how will she know about you if no one threatened her?" Dusk asked carefully. "Eloise, don't lie to me."

Eloise brought out a woman's greatest weapon– her big, fat tears. "I hate you, Dusk!"

[Pfft.]

Dusk let out a frustrated sigh, then he turned to her with guilt in his eyes. "I'm so sorry, Sol."

"Talk to Eloise first and fix whatever you have to fix with her," Sol said while acting hurt, then she walked past him. "I don't want to be involved in your drama."

***

"SOL, this is our last break before our afternoon classes end," Kaia told her in a scared voice. They were now returning to their classroom from the cafeteria. "You made Eloise cry earlier. I'm sure her followers will teach you a lesson to appease her."

Sol just shrugged while concentrating on the damned bottle of orange juice in her hands. The lid wouldn't budge no matter how hard she tried to open it. "They can't kill me, Kaia."

"Are you not afraid of them?" her "friend" (aka first pawn) asked worriedly. "Believe me, Sol. Eloise and her followers are dangerous."

"You haven't met my brother yet," she said casually. [Kuya Yue is the only person who scares me.]

"Huh?" Kaia asked, confused. "What does your brother has to do with what we're talking about?"

She was about to say that it was nothing when someone suddenly snatched the orange bottle from her.

"Pretty girls are the cutest when they're helpless," the handsome boy who "stole" her orange juice said. It was annoying to see how easily he opened the damned lid for her. "You're Sol Fontana, aren't you? Rumors say that the new girl is a beauty so I have to see it for myself." He handed the bottle back to her. "You're my type, Sol Fontana."

[Ah, this must be Quest Venosa.]

This bastard had the same "stench" as Yue and Cloud.

[He stinks of blood.]

Not literally, of course.

[A typical bad boy, huh?]

"I'm Quest Venosa," the bastard said while looking at her with lewd eyes. He was handsome, but the perverted look on his face made him look stupid and "kill-able." "I hope you already heard about me."

Sol threw the orange bottle at the trash can beside her, shocking Quest Venosa. She smiled at him anyway. "I'm sorry but I don't like it when people touch my food without consent."

Quest smirked bemusedly. "Good girls should just smile and say "thank you" when nice guys help them."

"I didn't ask for your help," she said while still smiling. "Do you think we're in a teen fiction where dumb girls swoon over boys who treat them bad?"

Quest's smirk disappeared as if he was insulted. But it looked like he was intimidated by her because he turned to Kaia to vent out to the poor girl instead. "What the hell are you looking at?" he snarled at Kaia. "Fuck off!"

Kaia looked so scared and was about to run away from Quest.

But Sol grabbed Kaia by the arm to stop her from running. She almost rolled her eyes when she noticed that Kaia was trembling from fear. But she set her personal feelings aside to look straight into Quest's eyes. "Apologize to my friend."

Quest raised an eyebrow at her. "If I apologize to her, will you genuinely smile at me and say "thank you" like a good girl?"

She responded by giving him a bold, fake smile.

"Fuck, I can't think straight because you're so pretty," Quest said, and his arrogant smirk was back. But his smirk disappeared when he turned to Kaia who couldn't look back at the delinquent. "Hey, you. Sorry for picking on you just because you look like a newborn hamster about to be eaten by her lunatic mommy."

[How immature.]

Kaia, who looked like she was about to cry, couldn't even lift her head and accept the apology properly.

[Well, if I were her, I wouldn't accept a half-assed apology like that.]

"I already apologized to your friend," Quest said, then he turned to her with an expectant look on his handsome face. "Now, do your part."

Sol smiled, then she tip-toed and whispered in Quest's ear. "Fuck. Off."

After that, she grabbed Kaia by the arm again and dragged her with her as they walked past Quest Venosa who seemed to have been frozen on the spot.

Then, she heard Quest's loud and rich laughter from behind.

"Sol Fontana!" Quest screamed her name fondly. "You're my girl from now on, okay?"

Sol rolled her eyes. [Say that to my Kuya Yue.]
