Chapter 2: Dark Heirs

In the land of Astari lives many immortals that referred to themselves as gods because of the authority they have been given over the characteristics of creation.

Some gods exist in solidarity and others exist in community of one another. Shottana the god of life and death is such a god. Ramaru is a god that exists in community of others. He started off as the god of thundering rain and is now the god of weather.

Gods that exist in community of one another have houses, where they protect and help one another. They also have what is known as a composite, which is a god who has command over all the characteristics of creation under their houses.

Gods that exist in solidarity also have their own houses but these were created to safeguard their bloodlines and political reasons.

Mabone who is the current goddess of light was in Shottana's private study room, she was previously going by the title of goddess of beauty. As part of her power, her appearance changes to fit what each individual would consider the most beautiful thing they ever saw. Since then she gained the ability to manipulate light and darkness making her a composite.

"Shotta! It's been over a few decades now since you brought back that weird kid and you still have not told us what he is." Mabone said with a pouty voice as she threw herself onto a nearby couch.

"I do not know what else you want to hear, Thoromo is a godkin just like all the others," Shottana said as he looked through the curtains of the room. It was dark outside but he could see everything as if it were not. He was in an all-black suit, including the shirt and the tie. In his hand, he was holding a wine glass in between his fingers so he could keep on checking the watch on his wrist.

"From which bloodline is what I want to know. There is no way he could be yours because you have always been repulsed by the thought of being with mortals."

"I am an old man, what makes you think I would pay attention to such things when I need an heir?"

"I know you. None of the kids you have lined up as an heir candidate are yours, why would you suddenly change at the last minute?"

Shottana took a sip of his wine. "Who knows, the future is a mystery to us, unlike in the world of mortals, when we are here we are basically powerless."

"I still have my powers."

"Do not interrupt me," Shotta said as he looked back again at the goddess. "As I was saying before, we are not indestructible which is why we get replaced every so often. The older we grow, the bigger the hurdles we must overcome in order to lead normal lives become. Eventually all immortals no matter how powerful end up overwhelmed and choosing death. Yet to mortals down below, the goddess of light has always been the goddess of light, they do not know about your mother or her struggles, they do not know about your daughters and their brother. We are all the same monsters to them. What I am saying is that I want to have fun while my brain still permits, I met that child through an interesting scenario so I believe his choices are going to be just as interesting."

"I see, so an old man such as yourself can get bored too? But what do mortal believes got to do with us?"

"A lot more than you would like. Plus, aren't you too selective with your hearing today?"

The goddess stood up and walked off to Shottana, she then hugged him from behind. "When have I ever cared about your rumbling ghost face?"

Shottana put his hand on her hands and sighed. "You are going to get us killed Mabone." He closed the blinds to his office.

Thoromo POV

About to go on hands-on training, I feel as shaken as anyone would be in my position. Growing up the old man used to tell me just how large the multiverse was, that I was one day going to go from planet to planet, dimension to dimension and even alternate realities in order to fulfil my duties as an Astarian.

Currently, I was sitting on the roof of my house, I am now over a couple of decades old, old enough to move out from under the old man's wing. I can't say I will not miss him but this is peaceful, a life away from...

"Can't sleep?" A female voice asked coming from behind me. I sighed because nothing good ever happened after hearing it.

"I was asking you a question Thoromo, you should answer me."

"You should not even be here, we were separated for a reason."

"Separated? What are you talking about? We were all kicked out of the castle and given this place to stay."

Osari is someone who could be considered a sibling of mine, we were all adopted by old man Shottana and brought here to be raised as his heirs. However, he never instilled in us the idea that we were family. The end result was a huge pain in the neck by all the kids I was raised with.

In some ways I am thankful that he didn't, a few years ago the heirs to the god of luck title massacred one another. All of them were blood-related siblings and were raised as such. I cannot begin to imagine how it feels to be killed by someone who you considered family. At least when these pieces of shit try for my life it will not be shocking at all.

"What are you talking about Osari? The old man let me go a week ago saying he prepared a place for me, not you."

"What he forgot to tell you is that we will still be living with each other until he picks three out of the six of us to get a familiar and enter the cycle of godhood. So, he prepared a place for us."

I grunted and stood up to go down, Osari then moved in front of me. I frowned at her and she crossed her arms. It would have been a great sight if she had bigger boobs. She and I were alike in many ways, among the boys I was the tallest and among the girls she was the tallest, we both did not speak much, I have the darkest skin in the family and hers was almost as white as Shottana's. Everything about us was to the extreme.

I tried moving to the other side but she followed, I tried heading the other way and she followed. We repeated the same thing for a while until I grabbed her shoulder in my hand and pushed her to the side. She caught my hand and took it with her, pulling hard on it. As my body started leaning towards her, I pressed my foot on the ground and launched myself past her at super speed.

"I should have done this in the beginning," I said I landed on the opposite side of the house. I immediately got inside without checking for her, I as the fastest godkin in the family knew that there was no way she was catching up to me any time soon.

The following day I went to have my breakfast as usual, but this time around there were new guests in the house. Three of them, Osari included, the other two heirs were older than us so we barely ever got to see them that much.
