Chapter 60: Yggdrasil and confrontation.
Veronica looked similar to serena except she had her hair styled in two braided ponytails. she looks her self over and nods in satisfaction at having returned to her original form. "must be quite the power up if you could fix this so easily." she says curiously. alastair shrugs "wouldn't be the peak of magic if it wasn't." he says calmly. "when you got this new knowledge did you learn any unknown types of magic?" veronica asked curiously and the rest of the party waited eagerly for an answer. "hmmm , i did learn three kinds that might count." alastair said.
"The first is chronomancy , which is to say time magic. the second is creation magic which lets me create anything in exchange for mana. the last type is questionable since i don't know if anyone has learned it before because of how obvious it seems. the last type is rule magic which is the ability to set rules to something in exchange for mana." he explained honestly. "so you can like stop time or something like?" erik asked unbelieving. alastair nodded "i can stop time if i wanted yes though my favorite thing about the magic is being able to watch the past." he said honestly.
"Something so powerful has got to have severe restrictions to it right?" serena asked worried. "it does indeed has a few easily noticeable taboos to avoid at all cost such as changing the past for example. if you change even a tiny thing in the past horrible consequences would ensue , things like wars and even whole apocalypses from small changes not to mention big ones." alastair says seriously. "best not to tempt fate then." rab says seriously and the entire party agrees. "we'll camp out here for the night before heading up to the world tree in the morning." alastair says.
The next day the party scaled the incline under Yggdrasil until they reached a huge white platform with six empty stands that alastair recognizes from the reinbow's vision. following the vision alastair places the orbs onto the empty stands where they fit perfectly before standing in the center of the platform as it starts to vibrate. a blinding white light washes over the party for a moment before vanishing to reveal a path made entirely of what appears to be a rainbow. alastair is shocked to learn the results of his eyes deciphering the magic since it was in fact a form of rule magic.
The party walks along the path that seems to lead straight to the heart of Yggdrasil. the trip was fairly short only taking a couple of hours before the party reached to end of the rainbow path leaving them on the path through the world trees branches themselves. the sheer power flowing through the wood under their feet was enough to kill them many times over according to alastairs magic senses and yet he could help being incredibly relaxed in its presence like being in the arms of a loved one.
An hour later the party reach a sort of large empty spot deep in the center of the branches and the huge glowing orb at the far side of the area means they have reached their destination. "beautiful." rab says mesmerized by the sight of it. veronica reacts differently than the rest of the party since she sees what is floating in the center of the orb. "look the sword of light!" she exclaims in surprise. "it was here the entire time , but how did it get here?" serena asked confused.
The following events play out in the same manner as before with sylvando getting shocked by the heart when he tried to touch it and alastair dispelling the vines guarding the heart. alastairs perk intuition activates when he reaches for the sword however causing his magic to react instinctively and putting a thick barrier between him and whatever caused the perk to activate. a small explosion happens as a dark purple smoky ball of magic strikes the barrier startling the rest of the party. "tsk , it seems you noticed me before my attack could hit you." the party heard a male voice speak up near the entrance of the area.
Turning to confront the speaker alastairs eyes narrow when he sees who it is. "jasper." he hisses angrily. "it's been all to easy to follow you fools to this place since none of you had the forethought to hide your tracks , not that it would do you any good since my lord and i already knew you would eventually reach this place." jasper gloated. much like in the game jasper pulled out a purple orb which seemed to enshroud him in a smoky barrier of corrupted mana showing his allegiance to evil.
The party minus alastair unleash their entire power on jasper but it does nothing and he soon incapacitates them before focusing on alastair. it is at this time that hendrick shows up followed by surprisingly enough king carnelian himself who both see the darkness around jasper. just like in the game it turns out that hendrick was nothing more than a pawn as it is revealed that the king had been possessed by the dark one mordegan himself who incapacitated hendrick from behind with a sneak attack. jasper and mordegan turn their attentions to alastair after dealing with hendrick but both had serious expressions unlike in the game.
