Tapping on it, Si Zhang could see red foot marks on the ground. He soon understood what he had to do, he must perfectly place his foot on the red marks while performing the footstep technique.
He would analyze what he did wrong and correct it. For the next hours he would try to acquire beginner mastery for the footstep technique.

Five hundred kilometers south of Si city, At the border of the northern province ruled by the Si clan. Two powerful looking warriors were scouting the area on their horses. They were tasked to protect the border from intruders, and this no matter who they where. But merchants could pass, only after a meticulous search.
"Brother Guang, do you think that the clan will be victorious in the duels against the Wei clan?" the short muscular man asked Si Guang.
"Worry not as the clan will triumph" trying to calm the worries of Si Chen, Si Guang lied. He himself was not sure because, he and Si Chen were the strongest among the disciples. But as the disciples of the fifth and sixth elder they had to take responsibility of the border.
"Look there brother Guang" 300 meters away from their position, Si Chen pointed towards a group of white clothed man. "one, two, three, four....eight. Eight men. I will go meet them by myself. Brother Chen if they overpower me. You know what to do."
Nodding his head and seeing Si Guang approaching the eight man, Si Chen had no worries. "Brother Guang is an elite martial warrior after all"
Stopping on their tracks, the eight man looked at each other. "Hello travelers, what brings you here?" Si Guang put on a friendly tone, seeing merchants passing here was not uncommon.
"We are merchants, we come from the regions of the far south"
"far south? which region?"
hearing this question the eight men were obviously getting wary of Si Guang.
"listen young man, we need not answer those questions, we only want to bring our merchandise to a village"
Those people were suspicious, Si Guang would not fall for their lies. "you are telling me that you are merchants but you dress like martial artists, you talk about merchandise but you have none"
"very good, you leave us no choice!" the eight men equipped their swords and lunged towards Si Guang.
"to slow, to weak!" concentrating his qi toward his hands, they gave a red glow. Palm strike after palm strike he killed them one by one, only letting one live.
"tell me, why did you attempt to infiltrate the northern province. Who has send you?" not daring to lie in front of this powerful martial artist. The self proclaimed merchant told everything.
"I will tell you everything, but spare my life! We were offered hundred gold coins by the just faction to spy on the Si clan"
"What sort of information are they seeking?" asked Si Guang
"They asked us to gather information about the number of warriors and their strength. We where not the only spies that were sent. Groups of eight or ten were sent to the different regions ruled by the Evil faction."
From what he was hearing, Si Guang understood the situation. "The just faction is preparing for war, they are gathering information to gauge their strength."
Hearing what he wanted to hear, Si Guang grabbed the remaining spy and snapped his neck.
He had to send a message to the clan leader, informing him of what he and Si Chen had discovered.
