Chapter 149: The Ninety-Nine Jonins
Eight thousand men against one thousand, even the dumbest man could say who the victor would be. The Iwa shinobi knew it, but this didn't diminish their will to hold Suna's army back as much as they could.
There was one specific puppeteer who dealt great damage to the Iwa shinobi. His puppets were many and were all dressed in white kimonos, the clan's crest was proudly displayed.
They harbored the three yellow magatamas on their chest area. The puppeteer was part of the Shirogane clan, the famous puppeteering clan of The Land of Wind.
"Bartu! Deploy all of your puppets, we need to get past them as quickly as possible! We must do a swift invasion of their land!" one of the Suna shinobi exclaimed to Bartu.
"Very well, I shall do it!" Bartu took the big green scroll that was on his back, he rolled it open and placed his hand on it.
Thirty meters away from Bartu, Jurou and Shiba were exploding all those who dared to oppose them. The large puffs of smoke took their attention.
"I can smell it, the smell of more puppets." Jurou tried to see what was submerged in the smoke. He managed to distinguish the figures of even more puppets.
"Shiba, this son of a bitch has summoned more puppets. There must be exactly fifty of them, we need to destroy the puppets or else we'll be in big trouble." Shiba placed his hand on Jurou's shoulder and shook his head.
"Look around you, we're getting decimated. If we stay here, we'll die without really having stopped their advance. I say we retreat further and prepare a little surprise for the desert beggars." Jurou looked around and was quick to agree with Shiba.
"Shime! Let's use the fodder to give a hard blow to the beggars!" Shime, another explosion release user and brother of Shiba nodded his head. They touched many of the chunin and infused explosion chakra into them.
Jurou, Shiba and Shime had the same thought, that those chunin were inadvertently going to die. the best was to use them as weapons, they would die in the process but a at least it would help them hurt Suna's army and also retreat.
The surviving Jonins slowly retreated while the Chunins didn't notice it because of the chaos. Jurou, Shiba and Shime looked at each other, they nodded.
"Explode!" the three voices resounded, hundreds of chunins exploded and killed many Suna shinobi in the process. Slowly but surely, Suna's army managed to kill all the remaining Iwa shinobi.
Meanwhile, ninety-nine Jonins had managed to escape with their lives. They were going deeper in The Land of Earth. At the same time, they set traps everywhere. From paper bombs to kunais and infused explosion chakra in the ground.
There was one specific large ravin in the south of The Land of Earth. Many bridges were constructed there for passage to the other side. The ninety-nine Jonins made sure to place enough paper bombs there.
"Earth Style: Earth Spikes!" when they were at the other side of the ravin, the ninety-nine Jonins created earth spikes down the ravin. When the Suna shinobi would fall, they would be impaled.
"Will that be enough? Or should we make sure to set traps where we stand?" Jurou asked to the ninety-eight others.
"We must let at least hundreds of them cross the bridges. This will make them think that we set no traps here apart from the path that leads here. But once they cross, we will have to take care of them. It will be difficult for the ninety-nine of us to do that. It would be judicious to set traps here too." one of the Jonins said.
Many formed hand seals, the ground underneath them became wet and gave the impression that it could sink anytime. Meanwhile, the sounds of explosions resounded. Suna's army was approaching, but at the cost of activating all the layed traps.
Jurou, Shiba and Shime quickly entered their hands into the wet ground and infused it with explosion chakra. The ninety-nine Jonins decided to go further and conceal themselves.
"Come on! We only have those bridges to cross! Don't let yourself be discouraged because of the traps!" Suna's army started crossing the bridges that led to the other side of the ravin.
Bartu, the puppeteer, walked closer to the edge of the ravin and looked down. He noticed the hundreds of spikes, it didn't seem right to him. Before he could notify the army, the Explosive Duo and Shime took action.
"BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!...." the bridges exploded and so did all the Suna shinobi who were on it. Hundreds fell down and were impaled by the spikes, the ones who had crossed looked at the scene in horror.
"Let's take care of the ones who crossed!" the ninety-nine Jonins formed hand seals at the same time, the wet croud crumbled and made the hundreds shinobi fall down.
"BOOOOM!" the infused explosion chakra teared all those who fell down. Their arms and legs flew out of the hole. The ninety-nine Jonins had successfully stopped Suna's army advance.
"Good job, brothers! Send a message to the command room, we need immediate reinforcements. It won't be long before they find a way to cross the ravine." one of the Jonins took a piece of paper and wrote everything down.
Another Jonin whistled, an eagle flew down and sat on his shoulder. The Jonin took the paper from the other's hand and bind it around the eagle's claw with a little thread.
"Bring the message to the village, Raiden. Go as fast as lightning!" the Jonin 'threw' the eagle up, he flew away. The eagle flew in the direction of the village.
"Let's make a camp for ourselves, we can't stay here forever. I'm sure of it, Raiden will successfully bring the message." the ninety-nine Jonins took their distances from the ravine.
The eagle looked around, he saw the thousands of shinobi from Suna taking care of their wounded and deaths. Further down, many mutilated corpses where lying down.
The eagle flew away, it could witness what ravages war provoked.
