Chapter 8: Volume 1.7 Night of Unease (3)

Inside the cave, the two children were clutching near the small bonfire that Myrene created.

"Little Sister, I can't understand, how you could do this thing even without fire magic." Her brother said as he lent his hand in front of the fire to warm himself.

"It is just some twigs and rock. If it is you, you can surely easily learn to do it. After all, you're a smart big brother. If we get a chance, I'll teach you to do it." Myrene said.

"Really?!" His big brother smiled wide, enhancing his two dimples that were at each side of his chubby face. "Then that's a promise."

"Yes, it's a promise." Myrene extended her pinky then her brother also did the same and interlocked it together. He then started singing in an off tune sound.

"Promise, promise, if my sister breaks her promise. I will tickle her a thousand times."

"That sounds terrifying, brother." Myrene said, acting like a child.

"It's alright." Her brother said with a huge smile. "I know my little sister will always keep her promise."

It's been half an hour now since their mother left. Other than the crackling sound of the fire,

"I wonder when will mother return?" Her brother said.

"She will return soon." Myrene said with a gentle voice. Though her brother seemed to calmed down, there was nothing she could do right now but to believe in her mother's words.

{"We will be there before Christmas Eve."

"Myrene!"

"Your parents!"}

'Stop thinking anything negative, Myrene. Your mother would be fine. And besides... though, even if I still haven't seen father but now I have both my mother and my brother with me.'

"Little Sister, what do you think father will look like? Is he a good person?"

Myrene's thoughts were cut off by her brother's question.

"If mom chose him to be our father, then he must be a good person."

"Then in just two weeks will be my birthday. I will be six and father will be there to witness me awaken my magic. Why are we leaving right now when my birthday and seeing father are very near now?"

Myrene was speechless for a few moments. She didn't expect that her brother would be this intuitive.

"I don't know." The only thing that Myrene said which sparked a strange feeling inside her.

"You will be turning six now. Tell me what is your dream when you grow up?" Myrene said, trying to change the topic.

"My dream?" And thankfully her brother quickly went along with her. "I want to be a hero! Or even one of the people that will aid the hero." Her brother said out loud and with excitement in his voice. "I really love the stories of mother about the heroes who have unparalleled powers and save the world from the evil forces." His red ruby eyes glowed with excitement and anticipation as if he was already imagining himself being a hero.

"A hero," a smile escaped Myrene's lips. "That is a nice dream. In this world that can certainly be possible..."

{"Congratulations! She's a healthy baby girl."

"She still doesn't have a name."

"Protect your little sister."

"Your father will be the one to name both of you."

"I have these beautiful red ruby eyes."

"This world belongs to the same world of Saztrel, the novel Chaos Arise, and it is said that this eye color only belongs to one specific race."}

Myrene's eyes widened in realization. No, it was not a realization. She had long realized this but refused to accept it. In her three years and now that she would soon turn four this year, she really felt very happy. Much happier again other than her past life.

She wanted to continue this happiness for much longer. Continue this happiness with her new family as long as she lives. And she refused to see these obvious facts surrounding her. "I should have spoken to mother."

'The reason why we are running away is related to our father…'

'No even if I notice these things. I might have just provoked unnecessary things that can endanger my new family. I can't do such things when everyone is already happy.'

Meanwhile...

The storm continued to lay waste upon the grounds but one person stood firm in the middle of a clearing in the forest.

Rebecca narrowed her gaze to the creature in front of them. It was no other than the head cook of their mansion. The white chef's attire was already soaked with the rain but his face remained unfazed.

"Madame Rebecca, why are you in such a place in the middle of the storm?" His eyes were pure black as he spoke those words. "Where are the young lady and the young master? I saw you leave the mansion and followed out of worry thinking that something bad might have happened to all of you. Let me escorted you back at the mansion along with the children."

Rebecca didn't speak any words and instead, she extended her hands towards the cook like she was pulling a bow. Wind started to concentrate within her until it formed an arrow. Without a moment to waste, she unleashed the arrow and it flew straight ahead to the cook.

The cook didn't move to his location and the arrow directly hit his head, completely decapitating it. Rebecca released more arrows and barraged it towards the cook who didn't move since she started attacking.

Rebecca only stopped when there was nothing left in his body. His blood completely mixed with the mud he was stepping in. 'This is too easy.' She remained cautious observing her surroundings. There was nothing she could hear aside from the sounds of the winds, rain and the time to time rumbling of the thunder.

'It seems he is finally gone, I should get back before Frayah finds us here.'

*Splash!*

There was a sudden tremor in the ground, and something fast like the shape of a brown spear made of soil flew. Rebecca's eyes widened when her left arm flew a few meters away from her. Blood spurted out along with her ear piercing scream. "Ahhh!"

"I didn't do anything yet and you already attacked me Madame?" From the puddle of blood, the mud started to form the shape of a humanoid, it's black orb eyes stared deep towards Rebecca. And it grew bigger and bigger until it was already almost the height of a four-story house.

Rebecca gritted her teeth as she formed a wind towards her decapitated arm and stopped its bleeding.

"It seems you really wanted to leave Madame Rebecca. But I can't allow that to happen."

"We will leave here no matter what," Rebecca gritted her teeth as the wind surrounding them increased. "With this raging storm, no matter how bigger you get, I will destroy you, repeatedly."

The whole forest was filled with intense fights between the two. The cook continued to release multiple spikes made of hardened soil towards Rebecca. And Rebecca deflected it with her winds but there was some that still passed with it. Along with the spikes, the cook launched heavy punches that caused a crater towards the ground it landed.

Rebecca could only avoid this by the help of her wind. 'I can't take this much time now, I will end this with one attack now!'

Though she didn't want to use this yet since it would drain a lot of mana from her, she had no choice. The longer this fight goes on, the more dangerous it would get not just for her but also for her children.

She raised her remaining hand in the air. And the thick cumulonimbus clouds started to swirl. The wind grew intense.

The cook also felt the threatening accumulation of mana that was concentrating towards Rebecca. He ran towards her, and each of his steps created a heavy rumble on the ground. He extended his huge right fist and launched it towards Rebecca. But before he could move...

*Boogsh!*

A strong tornado hit him straight from the sky. He couldn't do anything as he was sent flying along with the tornado.

Rebecca dropped on her knees panting really hard. 'He's gone, I should go back to my children.' She forced herself to stand up.

Her vision was already blurring as she reached the entrance of the cave again. The raging storm also had already calmed down.

Before she completely reached the cave, she remembered the pill that her daughter gave to her. She dug it out from her pocket and drank it without a moment of hesitation. To her surprise, her wounds healed and even her decapitated arm grew back.

'How did my daughter get such an item?' She shook her head. 'It's alright. With this, I don't need to worry about how they will react if they see my sorry state.'

"Mother!"

"Mother!"

She raised her head when she saw her children coming out of the cave.

Both of her children ran towards her and locked her in embrace. She faintly smiled at them seeing that they were both alright. She caressed their backs.

'Mom, really came back.' Myrene couldn't help but tightened her hug as she felt relieved.

"Just a few more," Rebecca muttered as she grabbed the hands of her children. "Let's go."
