Chapter 273: The battle of the bloody rock valley part 3

"King Rufus and Queen Satifa. Let us battle like the gods. On the skies, while our worshippers fight below," Ala yelled, believing he was on the precipice of godhood, and summoned a blast of flame.

Satifa called her locusts that flew into the sky. They shielded Rufus and the queen from the fires, but they all burned. Thousands of locusts came blazing down, falling on the soldiers below.

Satifa could summon and create more locusts from the earth and sand, but it took time. Time the emperor wasn't allowing them to have.

Ala Phokas continued his attacks and threw fireballs. As Satifa was occupied with creating more locusts, Rufus flew towards the attacks and swatted them away with his wings. He then summoned many divine spheres that floated around him. He sent them towards Ala, who propelled up like a jet, dodging the expanding divine spheres. It looked like the sky was exploding as the spheres destroyed any bird unlucky enough to be inside when they evaporated. The emperor threaded between the attacks, flying ever higher, with Rufus in pursuit.

As the emperor reached the heights of the clouds, Rufus lost visual of him. He was above the clouds and tried to spot Ala but couldn't see him. Then he stared at the sun that shined brightly on his face. It then started to burn as the emperor used the sunlight to hide his presence. A sizeable flaming arrow flew at Rufus. He was able to dodge it, but it ripped one of his wings. Rufus started plummeting as he couldn't keep himself in the air with just one wing.

As Rufus fell, he saw the emperor following him down like a rocket. He grabbed Rufus by his throat and prepared to burn him alive, but locusts appeared on the emperor's face before he could finish the killing blow. They bit him so hard that Rufus was able to shove the emperor away while he was distracted.

Rufus created another wing and was able to stabilize himself in the air. The queen returned to battle and yelled, "Rufus get back now!"

Thousands of locusts started to fly around the emperor, who burnt as many as he could to ash as fast as he could, but they just kept coming. The sky around the emperor turned brown as the locusts flew around him like a tornado. Millions of locusts formed a massive swarm that flew around the emperor. He was trying his best to protect himself from the pests, but more kept coming.

Satifa used her hands to control the swarm, like a conductor commanding an orchestra. She then clapped them together, making the locust tornado thicker and denser. The flames subsided inside the brown tornado of locusts. For a moment, it seemed like the emperor was defeated.

The tornado then caught on fire as a massive explosion of flames came from the center of it. The emperor was slightly hurt but not much, with minor cuts and bruises from bites from the locusts.

Ala then burned a small bleeding locust bite on his cheek to close it.

The fight would be long and brutal.

Farkas was dodging the crystals that Haley was shooting at him. He was insanely fast, and his divine horse could use its hooves to protect itself and his rider. Like a mighty beast, the ferocious-looking red steed fought more like a tiger than a horse.

Farkas was out of spears that he could throw. This didn't though matter much to him. He took out two blades and rushed at Haley, who created crystal walls in the air, trying to slow down the Hephtalite king's attack. Farkas blasted through the crystal walls and shattered them like glass.

Haley summoned and threw a dense crystalline spear at the king. Farkas clashed with his swords shattering the spear, and fell off his mount. Haley felt like she was in the clear, but the scarlet stallion continued and fell on Haley. It bit with its blunt teeth into the thigh of Haley, who also started to fall from the sky.

With limited strength, Haley tried to kill the divine horse. She pierced its neck with a sharp crystal, and both hit the ground. They both fell in the middle of the battleground, surrounded by enemies and allies alike.

Haley was alive but had many fractured bones and bruises from the fall. Only thanks to her divinity, which makes a being more resilient physically as well, did she survive the fall from such heights.

After she had gotten herself back together, did she see that the fight was not over. Like a dog that had rabies, the scarlet stallion of king Farkas was still alive, even though it had a crystal lodged in its neck.

It ran through the masses of soldiers, pushing through them, trying to trample Haley. With the last of her strength, she summoned a spiked crystal from the earth that pierced the mighty beast. Still, the king's horse would not die or quit.

"What a useless animal."

Farkas limped forward, with one arm broken, while holding on to a sword.

"What did you do to this horse?" Haley asked as the horse refused to die like it didn't feel pain and was possessed.

"Oh, I just tweaked it a bit. Some forced divinity here and there. Gave some experimental potions to it," Farkas explained.

"Why would you do that?"

"Why wouldn't I. I mean, look at it. That beast is ALMOST perfect. Would have been if it had killed you. It did though trample to death my father and all of the other candidates for the Hephtalite throne. Knew at least how to do one thing."

Haley stared at the crazed beast, and looked into it's eyes. It despreatly wanted to die. Haley though had no power left. She was weak, and Farkas was walking toward her sword in hand.

Then men, wearing similar-looking armor as Farkas, walked past Haley. One knelt down near Farkas's horse, gently touched it, and whispered, "May you find eternal pastures in the next life."

He then killed it by pushing a spear through the divine horse's head. These warriors were the few scarlet riders that had joined the alliance. And the only ones left of their kind, though they didn't have their scarlet stallion anymore.

"So you survived? Good, now bring this girl to me. I wish to kill her personally," Farkas said while laughing.

Without a word said, one of the warriors threw a spear at Farkas, puncturing his lungs. Blood came gushing out as the others joined in. Farkas tried to fight back and yelled like a little child, "Wait, I am your king, and I command you to stop!"

"The reason why we war and fight when choosing our next king is, so we get to see who is the most worthy to rule. The one who is worth following and shows honor to himself and his subjects. You showed shame to us, and your steed, and so will we now force you to abdicate," one of the warriors spoke.

"I won. I WON THE CIVIL WAR! I AM THE KING BY LAW!"

"Yes, and now you shall lose it," they said and started to chase down the king. The king was weakened and wasn't able to fight back. One threw a spear and cut the leg of the king in half. He tried to crawl away while crying, but the warriors caught up to him.

They turned the king on his back so he could see their faces as they killed him. Many spears came down and punctured the king. They continued to stab the king even though he had died. Such was the disgust and hatred of him.

While Haley was fighting Farkas, Doreen and Yosef were facing Samanilde. She used her flaming whips that spiraled like tornadoes to relentlessly attack Doreen, who protected herself behind her divine shield.

"Come on, you immigrant bitch. Try an attack me once," Samanilde yelled.

At that moment, a musket ball hit Samanilde's head from the side, and she fell down and let Doreen get up. The shot had come from one of the puppets Yosef controlled that wielded a musket.

"I would have wanted to slap her, but I guess that was satisfaction enough," Yosef joked and walked next to Doreen.

Samanilde got up, showing she was not dead. The musket shot had gone through one cheek and came out of the other, bloodening and disfiguring her face badly.

"Wow, now her face matches her personality," Yosef noted.

"Concentrate. We can win this," Doreen noted.

Samanilde got angry and started to slash her flaming whips all around. Varangian and allied soldiers died around her as her flaming whips sliced people like they were made from paper.

Yosef pulled back his puppets so they wouldn't be destroyed. One got grabbed by the fire whips of the princess and was snapped in two. Yosef now had only two puppets left.

Doreen pushed her spear forward that stretched out. Samanilde dodged it, snapped her whip onto the ground, and used the momentum to fly into the air and get quickly next to Doreen.

She was trying to kill Doreen as she finally was close, but Doreen then shined her shield on the princess. Her legs turned to stone but kept attacking nonstop. With immense hatred, she kept hitting Doreen's shield until she wrapped one whip around it and pulled it away right before half of her body had turned to stone. She raised her hand, preparing to kill Doreen, but was stopped.

Yosef controlled one of his puppets to attack Samanilde and cut the arm, saving Doreen. She yelled in pain, and Doreen used her spread to puncture the neck of Samanilde. The lower half of the princess had turned to stone, she had lost one arm, and a spear had a punctured throat. Still, she refused to die.

"I c...can...I can not. I am not a failure. Father...please...I am not a failure," she said while dying, still being scarred by hoping to please her father, the emperor.
