Chapter 3: I'm Sorry

"ALICE!!!" Ryan screamed, and before Jayce could react Ryan broke into a full sprint at the monster.

The beast was distracted with its meal as it heard the scream behind it, looking back it could see a small redhead boy running at it.

Jayce could see the beast's features as it turned to face Ryan, it had wolf-like ears and a snout that was covered in blood.

But the most terrifying feature about the beast was the yellow piercing iris, all of Jayce's instincts were telling him that the beast would swallow him whole.

This didn't stop Ryan's advances on the beast, as soon as he got in range he threw a punch straight toward its stomach.

Before the punch could touch the fur of the beast, his arm was stopped, more accurately Ryan's arm was cleanly cut off by the beast's claws that extended 4 inches outward.

Before Ryan could even register that his arm was no longer connected to his body, the beast opened his mouth wide biting down and consuming his entire head.

Blood started to spurt out of his neck like a fountain as it fell onto the floor.

Finishing the head that it violently ripped from the redhead, it looked towards its next meal.

Feeling the glare of the beast Jayce's instincts instantly kicked in as he turned around and sprinted towards the door.

'This can't be happening, this all has to be a dream.' Jayce thought as he tripped over something, falling into the darkness.

Trying to stand, Jayce turned his head to see why his legs weren't moving, only to see that below his knees his legs were no longer there.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" Jayce screamed as the pain of losing his legs finally kicked in.

Tears and snot slid down his face as he tried to deal with the pain, but it was too much for him to handle.

Seeing that the beast retracting his claws and walking towards him, Jayce started to crawl towards the door.

'I don't want to die! I don't want to die! I don't want to die!' Jayce kept telling to himself.

Maybe he thought that if he kept repeating the words in his mind it would come true, but reality was cruel.

A huge paw pushed down onto Jayce's back, cracking his ribs and knocking the air out of him.

Extending its claws once more, it cut off his left arm and stabbed it into Jayce's back, lifting him off the ground. The beast then threw Jayce with inhuman force across the apartment.

Hitting the ground hard and bouncing off the ground into the kitchen, fracturing his skull, and breaking the very few ribs he had left.

Forcing through the pain, Jayce slowly opened his eyes to see his sister's dead eyes looking back at him with tears sliding down her once beautiful face.

His worry about escaping disappeared as he focused on his sister's face.

Using his last limb, he wiped the tears off of her cheeks.

"I'm sorry that I wasn't able to keep you safe. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to keep the promise of going shopping with you."

Turning to his left he saw the headless body he once called his best friend. "I'm sorry that I asked you for that favor.

If I hadn't asked you, you would probably still be alive. This is all my fault, if only I was stronger you both would be alive."

Jayce's mentality was broken, he lost everything that he held dear. The only thing he felt was anger at the thing that took away his family.

Looking up at the beast, it had a huge smile on its face. It could smell the anger and despair that was coming from the boy.

To the beast, it was the last flavoring before letting himself have a feast. The beast grabbed the head of the boy and lifted him as it chomped down his last arm.

Jayce suddenly smiled as the beast started to cough hysterically.

"That's...what....you...get, you bastard...." Jayce barely said with a smile on his face.

With the amount of blood he's lost his life was coming to an end. It was a surprise that he was able to last this long.

The beast had dropped Jayce and started to claw at its throat, ripping apart it with its sharp claws.

Realizing that it wasn't helping, it slammed its fist into its stomach. The monster's body gagged as it violently hacked out the object that was causing its throat to burn from the inside out.

A silver ring covered in blood fell to the floor.

Jayce didn't know why it hurt the monster as much as it did, he just wanted the beast to choke on it while it feasted in his arm, ruining his meal.

But it didn't matter to him anymore as he couldn't see, he lost the ability when the beast dropped him; due to the lack of blood.

Knowing that his final moments were coming he made one last wish.

'I wish I could kill this monster before I die.'

'But at what cost.' A voice responded.

'Anything.'

'Even at the loss of your humanity?'

'Yes'

'Even at the cost of your soul?'
