Chapter 19: First Battle with a Major Power Pt. 2

It's been 5 hours since Sengoku and Shiki started their fight. Neither side had an decisive advantage and they were getting nowhere. Sengoku was throwing shockwaves while Shiki was dodging and tossing anything he could find on the island at the admiral. Percy noticed that little to no progress on their fight was being made, but was reluctant to interfere.

[If I join, will I create an opening of attack for Sengoku, or Shiki as the other tries to defend me?] thought the young vice admiral. He couldn't decide his best course of action, therefore he decided to wait for Umen to arrive so he can arrest the new officer of the Golden Lion pirates.

Calvish failed to arrest Hon and Dr. Indigo as Hon proved to be too strong for Calvish to handle. The vice admiral was strong enough to defeat Cramer, but could not handle the other two by himself. He tried to ask for assistance from his troops; but, Hon prevented that by either crushing marines that were trying to assist the vice admiral, or escaped to another area of the island leaving the navy to constantly chasing after him.

In the end, Hon rescued Dr. Indigo and they boarded one of the remaining ships before sailing away from the marines.

[Live to see another day I guess] Percy thought as he watched Hon and Indigo on the pirate boat drifting away on the ocean current.

As this was happening Shiki was observing the battle and noticed that only Hon and Indigo was uncaptured and grimaced.

Shiki was dumbfounded before gritting his teeth, [those geezers don't know what they are unleashing on the world by letting him live. I need to rethink my plans if the kid is going to be staying in the New world.]

Shiki then stared at Percy noticing that he was responsible for capturing two of his core members.

[It's all that damn fruit's fault. If it weren't for it and that boy, I would have a logia officer by now!] Shiki glared at Percy and decided that before he leaves he needs to kill the dark- dark fruit user.

He then used his devil fruit ability, the float- float fruit to shape the clouds into lions, coat them in haki and slam them into Sengoku.

The admiral was surprised by the attack and quickly retreated as he was not prepared was such a massive attack from the pirate captain.

Shiki took the opportunity in Sengoku's concentration to rush towards Percy and try to kill him as fast as possible.

Percy lifted his hand like he always did,

[kurouzu] and his hand started to attract Shiki and everyone around him to it.

Shiki looked at the technique, smiled faintly and started to coat his whole body in haki.

Percy frowned as he noticed that Shiki was not moving; he was still floating in the air, looking down on him.

"Boy, you don't think that I've seen this technique more times than you can count? You're underestimating me far too much."

He then swiped his sword across a mountain to split it. After, he started to float the debris in the air. Shiki looked at Percy and said to him,

"Xebec had no real weakness, well, maybe his arrogance but that's about it. You on the other hand, have no idea the powers you wield. So before you find out, let me give you a little gift from your sempai."

The captain of the Golden Lion pirates then started to throw the entire mountain at Percy. The young vice admiral was stunned for a second before he channeled his darkness to crush as much of it as possible.

The darkness stretched out of Percy's body and everything it touched was crushed under the pressure of its gravity. He quickly noticed however, that it was too much debris at the moment. Even if he managed to destroy the entire mountain Shiki threw at him, he would be too tired to fight Umen who was still minutes away from arrival.

[F*ck] Percy thought as he was destroying wave after wave of dirt, rock, trees, and pure mass.

[It's too much, I'm going to have to teleport to the ship.] As he was preparing to do so, Sengoku appeared next to Percy and formed a shockwave equal the size of said destroyed mountain. Instantly, the debris was smashed into undiscernible pieces and fell to the ground harmlessly.

Shiki grimaced to himself [damn, next time, for now though, it seems like I have to take my leave.]

Both Shiki and Sengoku turned to look at an incoming ship, it was small with the word "Cloud" on its mast.

Shiki grinned as he started to fly towards it, Sengoku started but stopped when he noticed that Percy was lying on his back exhausted.

Sengoku paused and looked at Shiki and said in a soft voice, "this is just the beginning, Shiki. Percy will be visiting you soon. Very soon."

Shiki looked back at the island as it got smaller and smaller as he had a bad premonition that this was first of many times he would be seeing the new vice admiral.

*********************************************************************************************************

Percy woke up and his head was groggy. He looked around and realized that he was not on the island any more and there was fluid going into his body. He pulled them up and tried to sit up, he felt like someone hit him in the head with a brick...or Zed punched him, again.

After 15 minutes or so, he regained his composure and walked outside. He looked around to see that he was not on his ship but the admirals'. Sengoku looked at him and started to laugh,

"HAHAHAHAHAHA, you look like shit." Sengoku said as he slapped the young man on the back. "You youngun's supposed to have speedy recoveries, why stay in bed all day?"

"How long have I been out?" Percy asked as he tried to get back up. The admiral hits just as hard as Zed or Garp.

"Not too long, just a day or so. HAHAHAHAHA how's it feel to fight against a true pirate?"

Percy was quiet as he tried to remember his "fight" with Shiki,

"I couldn't do anything," Percy started as he tried to collect his thoughts; "I thought that my ability would work on him, but Shiki's haki and mastery was so much stronger than mine that I was overwhelmed instantly."

Sengoku let Percy rattle on, this was a rare moment for him because Percy rarely suffered defeat, only to his teachers Zed and Garp did Percy get defeated so one-sidedly.

"When he threw that mountain at me, I thought that I could just crush everything as I always have, I realize now that I don't have enough stamina to fight a proper battle against people of that power yet."

"Not just that," Sengoku started. "you're haki mastery is mediocre at best and in a real fight, you would stand no chance. If you had stronger haki, then it would not have mattered if Shiki knew what you were doing, you could have negated his powers immediately and ended the fight instantly. Instead, because you haven't mastered haki yet, you were defeated."

Percy put his head down, he knew Sengoku was right; but he was eager to fight in the new world. He didn't want to train for another 3 or 4 years before testing his skills. But it seems like that was his only option left.

"I recommend that you restart your training from basic muscle exercises to haki training while traveling through the new world." Sengoku said with an encouraging smile on his face. "You need real world experience if you want to reach the next level, training at Marineford can only get you so far you know."

Percy was stunned, he thought that Sengoku would send him back to Zed for training on mastering haki, but it seems like he could stay in the New world.

"Yes sir." Percy said as he saluted the admiral.

For a moment, they were quiet as they stared in the ocean, both lost in their own thoughts.

"Sir, what about Shiki and Umen?"

"Them, we'll see them again. And when that happens, we will make sure to arrest both of them. Peace will not be maintained if they are left to their own devices."

"I see."

As Percy stared in the ocean once more he thought to himself,

[Next time Shiki, I will be prepared.]

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
pieinskie pieinskie

my thoughts is that I don't want MC to be stomping everyone right away. I think that is a boring read and a boring story to write. I think it is far more interesting for the protagonist to struggle, a lot before being able to fight the emperors and their crew. I like this direction, what do you think?
