Chapter 40: 39. Phil
We arrived at Rapid City. It is the closest city to Mount Rushmore. It was on this city that Vilgax's robots attacked to lure me out.
Having stopped the mobile home near the nearest restaurant, Grandpa Max took us inside. He decided to give us a real feast in honor of the victory over Vilgax.
It was already dark when we left the restaurant. Still, the others slept for a very long time.
We got into the RV again and was about to leave the city when a fire truck drove past us.
Realising that someone needed help, Grandpa went to get the firefighters. I was too lazy to do anything, so I wanted to leave everything to the girls. I would only watch them through echolocation. Just in case.
The firefighters, although most likely they were rescuers, since there was no fire, they arrived at some old building, which was some kind of house museum.
It looks like the caretaker of this museum called the rescuers, as some alien was going crazy inside.
I decided to check the house with echolocation and saw the Havoc Beast inside.
These are such aliens that live in Null Void. There are only two types of them - red and blue.
This building was now the Red Havok. This species is small, only 30 centimeters long, but they are very dexterous. They can be difficult to catch. And they always make a mess.
While Havok was making his creative mess, a man with a weapon sneaked up behind him.
It was Phil Billings, an old partner of grandfather when he was a Plumber. Phil was wearing an old-style Space Plumber uniform.
At that moment, the girls already wanted to get off the bus and go to the building, but I stopped them with the words:
- Wait. It makes no sense for you to go there.
- What? Why? - Ashley asked.
- There is already someone, he is with a weapon and is just now going to catch the alien. - I said.
- Who is this? - Gwen asked.
- I don't know, but, Grandpa, you will be interested. Judging by the outlines, this hunter is wearing the Plumbers' spacesuit. - I said.
- Truth? - asked the surprised Grandfather.
- Yes. And the alien inside is Havok Beast. - I said.
- Then let's go and see. - said Grandfather and got off the bus, and we followed him.
Just then, Phil was finally able to hit the alien with a weapon shot and stun him. Putting Havok in a small safe, he went outside.
- The hunter caught the alien. It will be out now. - I told everyone.
A minute later, Phil came out of the building, he carried a safe with an alien in right hand, and a weapon in left.
Phil was an ordinary man, with an average face, he was about fifty years old, his hair was black with gray.
Seeing the hunter, grandfather exclaimed in surprise:
- Phil?
- Max? - Seeing Grandpa, Phil was also surprised and quickened his pace went to us.
Approaching us, Phil put the safe on the ground and immediately hugged grandfather. Grandpa also hugged Phil back and they started laughing.
- Phil? The same Phil which you sent Vilgax with on the rocket? - I asked, making a fool.
Stopping hugging, Grandpa said, introducing us:
- Yes, this is it. Phil, this is my grandchildrens Lex, Gwen and Ashley.
Hearing the words of Max, Ashley was at first embarrassed, and then directly lit up with happiness. Apparently, she really liked that Max called her a granddaughter.
- Grandpa, do you know each other? - Gwen asked.
- We are not just acquainted. We were partners. - said Phil, and taking the safe went to the side of his car.
- Phil, how are you? - asked Grandpa, following him.
- Good. I caught Havok Beast like the good old days. - Phil replied.
- Havok, you tell? But they haven't been since we caught the alien that terrorized Denver years ago. - Grandpa said thoughtfully.
Hmm... Looks like Grandpa doesn't really trust Phil. Or at least suspects him of something. After all, I told him about the alien, but he still plays a fool.
Still, Max has a lot of experience and he has seen a lot in life. I immediately realized that something was wrong here. He also seems to have noticed my wary behavior towards Phil.
I just couldn't do anything about it. I know what Phil really is. And right away, I didn't like this Phil as soon as I saw him.
Something emanates from him, unpleasant. Gwen seems to feel it too. And Ashley has not yet recovered from happiness, so there is little use from her now.
To Grandpa's words, Phil replied:
- Yes, it's good that I accidentally passed by. The Plumber will always remain them. Have you thought about getting back into business again, Max? Relive glorious days.

- I've done my job. - Replied Grandpa, frowning.
- Yes, but now it looks like work has appeared again. To be honest, I decided to start my own business. - Phil said.
Grandpa and Phil talked a little longer, after which, under the pretext that we were in a hurry, we left.
- Well, tell me. - Sitting behind the wheel, Grandpa asked me.
- What to tell? - I asked.
- Why did you react to Phil like that? You obviously didn't like him. - Max said shrewdly.
- I had such a feeling from him. Unpleasant. I do not know how to explain. Gwen felt it too. - I said.
- Gwen, is it true? - asked Grandpa.
- Yes, Grandpa, Lex is right. With Phil, I feel uncomfortable. It feels like he will do something bad at any moment. - said Gwen and shivered a little.
- Clear. - said the grandfather and thought.
- You, too, realized that something was wrong here. Havok Beasts inhabitants of the Null Void. They can't just randomly appear here. - I said.
- Grandpa, why did Phil say that the Plumbers organization was closed? - Asked, previously silent, Ashley.
- You see, Ashley, after Vilgax's death, as we already know it was not final, the Plumbers' bosses decided to close the Earth department. But some of the Plumbers, who distinguished themselves, were taken to the Main Department. - said Grandpa.
- How are you or how my father? - Ashley asked.
- Yes. They found your father and offered him to study at the Academy of Plumbers, and then go to work in the Main Department. I was also offered to work there. - Grandpa said nodding.
- But not Phil? - Gwen asked.
- But not Phil. - confirmed the Grandfather.
- Well, that's understandable. - I said.
- What do you mean? - looking at me, asked Grandpa.
- I read Phil's personal file. A few days before the victory over Vilgax, they wanted to fire him. But after Vilgax's 'death' they decided to close the department. And Phil was not told anything or invited to work in the main department. - I told the information that Morgana received two minutes ago.
- Why? - Ashley asked.
- It's all about his psycho-profile. The bosses were not completely confident in Phil and decided to check him. Based on the results, Phil is vain and greedy. Such a person is easy to buy, so they wanted to expel him. - I said.
- Clear. So you think Phil released Havok Beast? - asked the saddened Grandfather. He then understood that this was all true. It's just hard for him to believe it.
- 100%. I think we need to watch him so that he doesn't do any bigger problems. - I suggested.
- How do we do it? - Gwen asked.
- Easy. I put a bug on his car. - I said and showed my phone with a map.
I actually did it. And to create a bug, with the level of my knowledge, is a trifling matter.
- It seems that he is now going in the meat-packing plant. If we turn right, we'll arrive before Phil. - Looking at the map, I said.
Grandpa listened to me and turned right, after 5 minutes we were there.
- So Phil will be here in a couple of minutes. Let's hide and see what he does. - said Grandpa and turned on the camouflage mode at the bus. It turns out he has one. Did not know.
We hid and waited for Phil, who arrived in his car a minute later.
After getting out of the car, Phil took out the Null Void Projector and Sonic Whistle from the trunk.
Seeing the projector, the Grandpa asked in shock:
- This?
- Yes, it looks like a Null Void Projector. Now it is clear why he was not at the base in Mount Rushmore. - I said.
This projector is very rare. Especially on Earth. After all, Null Void is a prison, who will give the key to it to just anyone.
This Projector is useful to me.
- What is this Projector? - Ashley asked quietly.
- I'll explain everything to you later. - I said in a whisper.
Just then, Phil turned on the Projector and released two large Vulpimancers from Null Void.
- Now, everything fell into place. Phil takes the Projector and lets out the aliens to wreak haos. And then he catches them for money. - said Grandpa.
He's very angry now, I've only seen him like this twice. When he is angry, he is very scary.
Once free, the Vulpimancers immediately ran to the plant.
- Girls, you will deal with the dogs. Phil is on us. - I said.
Ashley and Gwen nodded and went hunting.
Coming out of hiding, we went to Phil. Noticing us, he tried to make excuses, but no one believed him.
- You disappointed me very much, Phil. - said Grandpa.
Realising that he was caught, he pointed the Projector at us, but I did not let him release the aliens. Using telekinesis, I ripped the projector out of Phil's hands and said to Grandpa:
- He's all yours.
Grandpa heard me, just nodded and went to Phil.
I must say Max was cruel. He turned Phil's face into a bloody paste. After letting off steam, Grandpa took the Projector from my hands and sent Phil to Null Void.
- Grandpa, are you sure? - I asked.
- Don't worry, I'll contact my friends, they'll find Phil and put him in Null Void Prison. - said Grandpa.
- Well, if so, then okay. I'm just worried about you. After all, he was once your friend. - I said.
- Do not worry everything is fine. - Grandpa smiled at me, his usual smile.
Seeing his smile, I relaxed a little. Just at that moment, the girls arrived with the defeated Vulpimancers.
Having sent them to the Null Void, we got on the bus and went to the hotel, in which we rented two rooms and immediately went to bed.
