Chapter 15: Memories (4)
The boy's mother had seen wanted posters for her husband on the newspaper, as soon as she learned about this, she rushed to know more about the boy's condition. The boy didn't seem to hold any grudge against her, he seemed rather excited about the fact that he had reunited with his mother.
The boy introduces Katrina to his mother and his mother introduces her new family to him, the boy was a little surprised but at the same time was glad that he could be part of a normal family again.

A year passes like that,
" Happy Birthday, Jacob !", a crowd stood before the boy while he blew out the candles on the cake.
The boy looked a little older, Katrina stood beside him smiling.
After cutting and eating the cake, it was time to exchange presents !
Katrina's father gave the boy a watch.
The boy's mother gave him an model train, it was well known within the boy's social circle that he was strangely fascinated with trains. The boy would sometimes talk on and on about trains all day long, much to Katrina's dismay.
After exchanging presents, Katrina's family and the boy's family head to the living room to socialize. Katrina and the boy go to the boy's room.
Katrina makes herself comfortable on the boy's bed and lies there with a mischievous smile on her face, She beckons him and he complies and lay down beside her.
Katrina makes an surprised expression on her face and said,
" Oh my !.... it seems I've forgotten to give you my present."
The boy lets out a little chuckle and asks,
" Why are you speaking so weir-", but the boy couldn't complete what he was saying as Katrina had pressed her lips over his.
The boy seemed surprised but doesn't push her away, instead he pulls her closer and embraces her. The boy felt happy.

" And that's all you need to worry about.", an old man wearing some kind of uniform said in a tired voice.
" Yes sir, thank you for your instructions.", the boy... no the man said in a respectful voice.
Lather wanted to kill himself, he's seen years pass in this mortal's life and nothing of significance had happened till now. Every time Lather tried to fast forward this stupid charade, the mortal would stop him.
' This bastard just wants to relive these moments...', Lather thought a little impatiently.
But it wasn't that big of an issue since the time flow was considerably slower in the real world when compared to the memory world. Still, Lather was short on time so he wanted this to end faster.
The boy had gotten a job at a train station after graduating from college, Lather was very confused by the train system in the mortal's dimension, it all felt way too advanced and more complex than the trains in his own dimension.
After two years of working under the train supervising unit, the man was promoted to the position of head supervisor, which meant that he would oversee all the units in his particular station. The station under the boy could be considered the smallest as it was the last station.
Normally nobody in their right mind would give such a huge position to someone who had been working for just two years, the only reason the promotion was given to him was because of the fact that he was an exemplary worker and he also had important people backing him like Katrina's father.
The man felt a little bitter about this but he had long since accepted that this was the reality of the world.
The strong always ate up the weak.
The man returned home that day excited to share the happenings of his first day with his wife, Katrina.
As soon as he rang the bell, the door to their apartment opens and a very pregnant Katrina appears. The man first takes a bath and then the both of them have dinner while talking about various things.

The man and Katrina were having a picnic in a field of flowers near the train station,
Even though entry near the field of flowers was restricted as it was close to the train tracks, they still managed to get in because... well, the man runs the place.
After eating their lunch, the man and Katrina lie down on the field of flowers staring at the bright sky. The sound of the train passing through could be heard in the background.
Katrina touches her belly tenderly and said,
" When the baby is born, we should bring her here..."
" Yeah.", the man said feeling content.

The man stared nervously at Katrina who was lying on an operating table screaming in pain.
She held onto the man's hand tightly, her nails dug into the man's skin but he doesn't pull away.
After twenty minutes, the cries of a baby echo through the room.
The baby is handed to Katrina, she kisses the baby on the forehead and said,
" My little Daisy."
The man moves closer to her and takes hold of the baby's tiny fingers.
Katrina smiles at his action and hands the baby over to the man, he takes the baby gently as if he was scared that one wrong would hurt the baby... his baby.
" Honey.... I'm feeling dizzy.", Katrina's voice reaches the man's ears too late.
Once he looks up at her, he finds that she was convulsing and her eyes were closed. The nurses push the man aside and try to save Katrina.

Katrina's dead.
The doctors said that she had an pulmonary embolism, they also told something about blood clots and what not but the man can't hear anything.
All he can remember was her face right before she died.... she was afraid and in pain and yet....and yet the man could only stand there helplessly..
Everything that happened after her death was an blur.
Right now, the man was sitting in his room after just attending his wife's funeral.
The man just sat on his bed staring at nothing in particular, but soon he snaps out of it as hears the cries of a baby.
The man gets up from the bed and walks over the crib.
The baby stops it's wailing once she sees her father.
The man glares at the baby with only one thought in his mind,
" It's all your fault..."
The man pinches the baby's cheeks with force.
The baby cries from the pain and the man becomes startled as if he hadn't expected the baby to cry. He lets go of the baby and soon tears start flowing down from his face.
The man gently takes the baby in his arms and falls down to the ground.
Just like the baby, the man starts sobbing as well.
" I'm sorry..... I'm sor-ry", the man continues to say untill he feels the baby touching his cheeks.
The baby had surprisingly stopped crying and was gently touching the man's cheek as if she was consoling him. Seeing this the man starts crying even harder.
" I'll never hurt you again.... I promise.", the man said while wiping his tears away.
The man didn't know then that very soon.... he would break his promise.
