Chapter 89: Chapter 87: Discharged

Jeffrey waiting as his mom talked about her concerns with the doctor and what to do next. His grandfather was ok and that he should just be more careful. Soon enough, Jeffrey got his wish and accompanying him home was his grandfather and grandmother.

"Grandma! Grandpa!", Jeffrey said hugging the two of them.

"Long time no see Jeffrey. Oh my gosh you're so tall now", his grandmother hugged him.

Jeffrey went to his mom to ask, "What's for dinner?"

His mom still focused on the days events and driving responded absentmindedly, "Be patient Jeffrey. Dad probably has some food for you at home."

"I knew it", thought Jeffrey. He didn't get his hopes up when his mom picked him up. She liked buying fast food, however his Dad kept telling her it was unhealthy and she wasn't allowed to. From time to time, she'd still take him and his two sisters to get a hamburger and fries. His dad however was in charge of the credit card bill so he knew when his mom took them out to eat.

At home his dad probably had some lasagna with broccoli or whatever vegetable dish he tried to get him and his two sisters to eat. Last week it was some sort of egg and spinach pie, a French quiche or something.

The car was soon filled with the sound of conversation. Jeffrey stared out the window, but there were no street lights and there was nothing to see outside, but vague silhouettes and shadows of the scenery.

So Jeffrey started at the car dashboard all lit up, thinking about the stories that he was reading for the week. He was reading "Artemis Fowl and the Opal Deception". The time travel plot and various POVs confused him, so he spent some time trying to unravel the complicated story.

Brian Sanderson's Steelheart series was about to get updated at the school book fair. Jeffrey's mind wandered toward school events.

Soon Jeffrey had arrived home. Heading up the stairs and taking off the shoes, he could see the food always on the dinner table. Saoirse and Raine's plates already eaten clean and placed in the sink. The two of them were already in their rooms playing games and doing school work.

"Hey Jeffrey", his dad greeted him.

"Hi honey, Hi Dad, Hi mom", his Dad greeted Jeffrey's mom and her parents.

"What did the Doctor say?", he asked.

His parents were busy talking for a little bit. Meanwhile his grandparents sat in the living room, relaxing from their busy day. Jeffrey ran to the kitchen table to start eating.

Before he could start, his Dad warned him, "Jeffrey wash your hands first!"

Jeffrey reluctantly put down his dinner fork and went to the restroom to wash his hands. After covering his hands with soap, he turned on the faucet to let the water wash away the germs. After 30 seconds Jeffrey tried his hands on the sink towel and ran back to his seat.

Jeffrey served himself a large serving of what his Dad had finished cooking. A large seasoned chicken with rosemary and thyme, with a side of garlic and lemon sauce. It reminded Jeffrey a lot like a turkey dinner, with it already pre-sliced.

On Jeffrey's plate he grabbed some greens, a couple stalks of asperagus, some salad, and a spoonful of mash potatoes. He could visibly see that his sisters had ate more than half of the bowl, but at least they left some for him.

Covering his plate in gravy, Jeffrey devoured his dinner.

*chomp* *munch* *kampf*

Within minutes, his plate was empty and his hunger was satiated. Jeffrey felt sluggish and contented. He cleaned off his plate and put it in the sink.

Before heading upstairs, he passed by his grandparents.

"Do you guys want anything to eat?", he asked the two of them.

"We're good", his grandfather responded. As he proceeded to close his eyes once more to take a nap. His grandmother was already asleep with her head lying on the back on the couch.

His Dad walked in.

"Are you guys ready to go?", he asked Jeffrey's grandparents.

His grandparents gathered their things and started to put on their shoes.

"Let's go", his grandmother told his dad. The three of them headed out the door as Jeffrey watched. Jeffrey was relieved everything went fine and although a little banged up, everyone in his family was healthy.

Jeffrey headed upstairs to get a good nights sleep and get ready for the busy week ahead of him. He still had hours to work at SK flowers and the science project needed to be submitted into the science fair competition.
