Chapter 13: Jail break (part 2)

"Where could he be?" Tank says pacing back and forth repeatedly. "Still don't know and he isn't answering." Alex says "What if something happened to him?" Tank says looking between Alex and Rat who is making more arrows with Jessica to teach the new members how to do it. "Come on Brother it's fucking Riley. Dude is probably sitting on a pile of zombies plotting his next inhuman achievement." Alex says. "Or maybe I was just looking for a cigarette." Riley says, staring at the people in his workshop. The students flinch when they hear his voice. Riley lights his cigarette and glances around the room. "So uh I'm going to go to a junkyard nearby to get some parts for a personal project." Riley says behind a cloud of smoke. "I'll come with you." Tank says. Riley shakes his head. "No, you're needed here to teach them our ways." Riley says. Tank squints his eyes and jerks his head. "It sounds like you plan to be gone for a while." Tank says. Rat turns around and watches Riley. "A day or 2 since I don't sleep figured I'd get as much shit as I can." Riley says. He drops his bow into a collection bin and his arrows on the bench farthest from the people. "Ri if we did something to make you angry I apologize brother I swear we didn't mean it." Tank says panicked. Riley turns to look at him and opens his mouth when Jason comes in. "Don't forget to regularly check in." Jason says. Riley closes his mouth. "Anything you need me to look out for or am I good to go for getting whatever I feel is useful?" Riley says. Jason rubs his chin ignoring Tank's rage filled glares. "Nothing immediately comes to mind so have at it." Jason says. Riley empties his bag on the table. "Take these to the market for me will you?" Riley says, throwing his bag over his shoulder. Jessica jumps up. "You are coming back right Riley?" She asks, fighting back tears. The members stare at the silent back of Riley for what feels like eternity. "Where else am I going to go?" Riley finally answers before walking out and climbing into the truck. "Doesn't he scare you?" A brown haired athletic boy named Thomas asks. "Disrespect my brother and I will tear you apart." Tank growls in a violent low voice. Jason leaves with Riley's loot to put it in the market. "Everything he does Jason tells him to do." Rat says returning to his arrows to hide the tears welling up in his eyes. He and Tank both believe Riley might be leaving for good. "You people have no idea the pain and suffering that he has gone through before the world ended and you definitely have no fucking idea what he is going through now." Tank says before leaving so that he doesn't wind up hurting someone. "Alex, what does Tank mean by that?" The shy blonde girl asks. Alex stands up and stretches. "I've got bombs and blueprints to make." The thin boy says dodging the question and leaving. "When I first came to Miss Shelly's home for delinquents I sneaked into her office and read everyone's file." Rat says as he builds the hundredth arrow in a row. "We all pretty much had the same story; we were weird, lost our parents or were too bad to be bothered with anymore on paper at least." Rat inspects his arrow and starts another. "But Riley is in a league of his own there as well you see Riley had a Family until he was eight." Rat pauses and rubs his face. "His father was killed in the line of duty according to Riley by his own partner and not even 3 days later his newborn twin sisters and mother were killed in front of him beaten and tortured to death in front of 8 year old Riley." Rat resumes his arrow making. "I didn't believe it when I read it, let alone Riley always wears the leather jacket because it was his dad's. He wears long sleeves, scarfs or turtlenecks to hide the tattoos that cover his body." Rat inspects his arrow as the room remains silent listening with every once of attention on every word. "I don't have proof but I believe the tattoos are covering scars because the bastards that tortured his family tortured him too he just was the only one to survive." Rat chuckles. "It's like Alex says. He just doesn't know how to die." Rat stands up. "I knew this and still was a prick to him and that in the long line of stupid useless shit I've done is the thing I regret the most those 5 guys I now call my brothers are the toughest and best people I've met and I will not ever take them for granted again." Rat says grabbing some arrows and leaving to walk the perimeter. Jessica looks at the others. "This new world has new rules. Just obey The Book of Jason and respect the 13 clan so you don't regret it.`` Then she too goes to walk the perimeter.
