Chapter 10: Murder

Drake didn't need more hints to discover the truth.

Although his biochip could not make assumptions, it was pretty efficient when it came to evaluating its likeliness.

[Probability of this scenario being true: 78%]

78% was pretty high. The remaining 22% didn't mean that it was automatically false, but instead meant that it was only partially true. There were too few acolytes for a mere Tailor to be innocent when there were traces of necromancy around.

'Uncle John is likely to fall in the trap, and the matter would be solved like this if I don't do anything'

Drake was thinking of many scenari. He could turn a blind eye to Moundir, and still receive the Moonfall's rewards of 5 magic crystals, in addition to the pound of Frozen Leaves. This mission would be solved and he would make a fortune, but the real criminal would be free. Even if Drake didn't have much attachments to the people living in Frozen City, it still was under the Moonfall Household's protection.

Drake hadn't been treated fairly back in his home. However, he was a man of principles, and letting a crazy necromancer willing to kill hundreds of citizens, and even create such a wicked plan for whatever reason for the sake of power, wasn't quite right.

Confronting a necromancer in a place where several knights and veteran soldiers were already bribed wasn't a bright idea either. Well, it wouldn't have been if Drake was an average 16-years-old.

But Drake, in addition to being an acolyte with quite high magic power and an innate spell, he was a knight. In fact, few knights possessed equipment like the silver sword he possessed, or reached such attainments in swordsmanship. Necromancer or not, if he could not cast a spell, Moundir was not much stronger than the average adult.

As soon as Moundir turned his back to show him the 'latest winter collection' of noble robes, Drake's killing intent rose as he unsheathe his sword. In a crescent swing, Moundir's head flew, blood spraying everywhere. It was a simple attack, and even if Moundir's vitality was high, it wasn't enough to stay alive after being beheaded.

[Target is dead]

Acolytes were strong, but they were fragile nonetheless. Since Moundir was a beginner acolyte, not knowing or not activating a defensive spell as soon as he felt something off was a mistake. Of course, Drake taking action as soon as he made asumptions was something unlikely to begin with. Still, a necromancer, who had schemed for years and planned to take over a barony, died in an instant.

*SPLASH*

It didn't take long thereafter to kill the remaining mercenaries and servants in the shop. Gathering proof, and finding the hidden chests in this building was not very difficult with his biochip.

'Seems like Moundir had been careful enough to forge contracts with the Mayor so that the latter would not try anything funny, lest Moundir would have alerted the Moonfall Family...It is enough to incriminate not just the Mayor, but all of the knights and soldiers who received the 'Blood Absorption Ritual' capable of raising vitality'

[Blood Absorption Ritual - Low-grade Blood Ritual

Convert the lifespan and blood essence of fresh corpses into blood crystals. Consuming those blood crystals can increase vitality.

Warning: This method is incomplete, and it can harm the body's potential of those who consume the blood crystals]

Even if the method was inherently evil, and the blood crystals harmful on the long term, Drake smiled. After all, blood crystals could be sold for magic crystals, or even refined by alchemists to create unharmful elixirs. This forbidden skill was a treasure, one that had the potential to make him rich!

Of course, blood crystals which could only be created by necromancers, could not be found in his possession, lest he would be branded as a criminal and an outcast by his own family. Blood rituals were banned in the Porfield Kingdom after all.

'Time to massacre the culprits now...', Drake smiled in excitement at the thought of turning the Mayor and his followers into blood crystals
